Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I think this is more zeus2003 than nailz. Looks like he'd be better suited to the movies.
Guest ChaosTheory Report post Posted January 12, 2003 "Who all here has actually SEEN him wrestle? " I have seen a couple of his matches from Hashimoto's Zero-One fed in Japan and was less than impressed. He has a very impressive look and can be pretty intimidating but once the bell rings he has very little to offer. I honestly could not make it all the way through any of his matches without hitting the fastforward button at least once while he was in the ring (and I promise I tried to). Guest Apocalypse Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Ok, I don't post here and probably won't do so on a regular basis, but I have to defend Nathan Jones. Most of the matches you guys have seen are from when he was very, very green. There is a WWE dark match on Kazaa, it isn't anything special, but it deserves more credit than an Albert or Nash comparison. Jones is very fast, the fastest big man I've ever seen in a wrestling ring. Due to his size, when he charges guys in the corner or goes for any running attack, it's pretty intimidating. He has a few new-to-WWE power moves, such as a gutwrench into a tombstone position powerslam, body slam into a reverse DDT and a few others. Not a "Holy shit that's amazing" moveset, but not embarrassing to watch by any means. He is also not reliant on moves like powerbombs that seem to be all big guys do these days. His look, as you have now seen on Smackdown is very cool. I don't know who the hell told him to grow a goatee, that person should be seriously hurt and I am glad he is clean shaven again. Anyone who is watching Smackdown knows that Jones is a very well spoken man and has very good delivery. Except for forcing the word "mate" in there, his videos have been quite cool IMO. I'm not a hoss fan in the slightest(my faves are Jericho, Angle and Christopher Daniels), Lesnar is pretty much the only one who can put on an almost enjoyable match to me, but Jones has the size, look and verbal ability. He can also take an impressive bump or two, and will look pretty good as he's being eliminated from the Rumble if they do a similar charge to back body drop over the ropes spot as they did in his try out. He has had time to evolve into a competent wrestler. With all his other assets, and the fact that Vince has taken a liking to him(he is a legit 6'10'' after all, to be billed as 7' no doubt) all he really needs is to be a passable wrestler to succeed. My theory on why you guys all hated what you saw is that I would bet that Jones wouldn't be as good in long matches. His style is much more suited to short matches of six minutes tops. However he does have the conditioning to go longer, it's just that he might get dull. However this is WWE, and since he can put on an entertaining short match, he should do well for himself. Lastly, I was very skeptical of the character at first, but the more I see and read about it, it sounds more and more cool. It sounds like his character will be awesome, but with a tacky back story, which I can live with as long as it doesn't go "too Aussie, mate". Thanks for actually reading an entire pro-hoss post from a guy with a grand total of one post, you did better than I expected. Although it was probably pointless to do so, as I'm sure many people here wouldn't find any enjoyment in a big man match, even if he is good on big guy standards. Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Well I enjoy big show's matches so I probably won't hate him if he has a good personality and character as mentioned.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Since he's a genuis, he needs a submission for a finisher..and it's been a LONG time since we've seen the original mandible claw. What do you guys think about that? Or, how about..the IRON CLAW~!
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 12, 2003 heh, that's a good point the mandible claw would be a cool finisher for him, having a submission move rather than a powerbomb would make people think he could actually wrestle somewhat. JR putting over the clawhold like tiger driver '91 would be a laugh though.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Since he's a genuis, he needs a submission for a finisher..and it's been a LONG time since we've seen the original mandible claw. What do you guys think about that? Or, how about..the IRON CLAW~! Why would he need a submission if he's a "genius?" Poffo and Polo/Raven didn't. Although, if he's going to be a psychotic S.O.B a submission would fit him in that case. Maybe the Crush head vice?
