Movies that are...

Terminator 2

That movie's kinda seen as a classic and one of the best sequels ever made. But, onto mine...

First off, APO and I seemingly have more and more in common. First, Alabama football and now Half Baked. I love that movie. And I had a good time watching 40 Days and 40 Nights, too.

I've yet to see a John Carpenter movie I didn't like.

And I would put the Evil Dead series on here, but we all know that those are regarded as a classic series that defined filmmaking...

I hate the term guilty pleasure. Why should I feel guilty for liking something that nobody else does? I don't feel guilty when that happens, I just feel everybody else is friggin stupid for not liking it.

I don't really see this as a 'guilty' pleasure, but more of a movie that I dont usually recommend to people, despite being one of my favourite movies of all time.

The Pirates of Penzance (Kevin Kline version)

One of the finest comedies, and a great score of music. I believe this to be the best of Gilbert and Sullivans works.

A couple of Steven Seagal movies go in with the guilty pleasure category with me: Marked For Death and Fire Down Below.

Possible spoilers (?):

Marked For Death is so graphically violent that it is hilarious. Seagal cuts the main heel's nuts with a sword, pokes his eyes out, and also breaks a bunch of guys' arms backwards (that is just sick).

Fire Down Below isn't so odd in terms of violence but in terms of plot. I mean, who has ever heard of an EPA agent that goes around kicking asses? The movie also is a laugh riot for KY natives (like me) since it is has the usual Eastern KY stereotypes of everyone being a barefoot hick, and there is also an incest subplot in the film (Marg Helgenberger's brother was raping her)! Not to mention Seagal's bizarre homoerotic threats to Kris Kristofferson like "I'll show you a whole new meaning of personal violation!" I might find it offensive if the movie wasn't so hilariously bad.

Another movie that comes to mind would have to be Pootie Tang. I'm sure I am the only one who has seen and liked this, but this is funny in a Stupid kind of way.

You ain't the only one.

And I have to add my name to the list of people who like Airborne

And there's a couple of other movies that I like that aren't that good. The first is Only the Strong . Which is about a guy who learns Brazillian Martial Arts (Think of what Eddy Gordo does in Tekken), and whips up on a gang in Miami, all while teaching kids how to fight.

The other is a movie I've seen a few times, can't remember the name of it. It stars Billy Blanks (of Tae-Bo fame) as a janitor who teaches this kid karate in order for the kid to go into the UFC, or something like that.

crandamaniac, the Brazilian martial-arts you speak of is Capoeria. It's usually disguised as dancing, which is something I don't think Only The Strong really displayed as good as it could have.

Throw me in for support of Airborne and Pootie Tang as well. WAH-DAH-TAY~!

We seek him here, we seek him there,

Those Frenchies seek him everywhere,

Is he in heaven? - Is he in hell?

That demmed, elusive Pimpernel.

The scary thing? I knew that poem. Pretty good movie, actually. I saw the one with the "Dr. Quinn" gal.

Back on topic...hey, what's wrong with Mummy Returns? The only problem I have with that is WAY too many CGs. Plus, it relied on too much exposition to carry the story. Still, that fight between Anck-su-Namun/Meela and Evy (with the swords I forget the name of) was cool to watch. Even cooler was they did most of the stunts themselves. Another problem with MR.....no Beni!!!

So, if MR counts as a guilty pleasure, then I guess it'd be one of mine. Other than that, I'd say my other guilty pleasures would be "Goldmember", "Sliding Doors", and "4 Weddings and a Funeral".

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...I remember loving it as a kid, and as I watched it again last month after I bought it on DVD. And BY GAWD~! I found some of those "chill" moments in the movie.

Also, chalk up one more fan of Airborne. Snake kicks ass, yo!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is by NO MEANS a "guilty pleasure." It's a kid's action flick that people of ALL ages love.

Bride Of Chucky

Far more enjoyable than the previous three in the series because straight from the off it embraces in full that extra degree of black comedy and campyness that a film about a wisecracking killer doll should have. The scenes where Chucky and his girlfriend argue and swear at each other are as daft as you would imagine but quite funny in a slightly nutty post-Scream fashion. Add some elaborate death scenes, a few good jokes and the great Jennifer Tilly and it gets a thumbs up from me.

Me and my friend are the only people I know of that went to see The Stupids at the cinema when it first came out. As far as Tom Arnold films go it edges out stuff like 'Golf Punks' and 'Bug Busters' (despite having Star Trek's own Scottie & Mr Sulu in it).

Another one I have to throw out, and that's Hackers. Hell any movie that has a naked Angeling Jolie in it is good in my book.

And does anybody know the name of that Billy Blanks movie I mentioned earlier?

Altho your love for slash, generally creepy banners and ignorant markness really creep me out, I must say, with this pick, you've gone up a couple of places in my book.

Well, I'm glad for that....I think. The movie itself was okay, quite a lot of funny moments.

"We got ways of making you pronounce the letter 'o'" -- Roy

"Roy" is the main reason I got it though. Am I the only KJOC fan out there? He's such an under-rated talent, imo. (nods to her Beni icon)

As far as banners go.....I don't think I'll be posting too many of them anymore. Icons are better, and much smaller, so I'll probably just use those from now on.

For other naked Jolie greatness, check out Gia, Pushing Tin, Original Sin, and Foxfire.

That would be Showdown, Cranda. I mentioned that in one of my earlier posts in this thread.

I'm with you on Only The Strong as well.

Well, several that have already been mentioned, including the Evil Dead trilogy should that be included as a guilty pleasure. Also:

Hackers - Over the top early Lillard and cyberpunks as good guys = fun

Marked for Death - I still get queasy when he breaks that guy in the mall's arm and it just dangles there. Fake as hell but still...ugh.

Adventures of Ford Fairlane - God I love that movie for some reason.

National Lampoon's Van Wilder

Super Troopers

New Guy - Hey, it's Eliza Dushku, so sue me.

The Goonies - Loved it as a kid, still do.

UHF

Cannibal: The Musical - So bad it's funny, the DVD's commentary track is priceless

Starship Troopers and DragonHeart - The Dina Meyer duet are nothing more than overpriced B movies.

The Godfather ;)

Seriously, I have no guilty pleasures because all the movies I like are good movies. I don't watch schlocky Hollywood mass-produced shit, so I have nothing to complain about.

Although Empire Records might fit the category, if only because the acting is bad on all counts except for Robin Tunney.

OH ya Van Wilder, The New Guy and Sorority Boys... although Harland Williams is in the latter, so it has to have some cred, right?

I want to write a comedy starring Harland Williams, the tall goofy guy with glasses from Just Shoot Me and the two guys from Mr. Show. Actually I dont even think that would need a script, just put them in a room and film it.

Thank you so much. And it's good to see another Only the Strong mark on here too.

And another Bill Cosby movie that I must throw in the heap. Ghost Dad. For some reason I find it funny.
