Well, Im gonna post a new thread about the Bret dvd. So I dont want to hear any shit about there being two threads about it...this is clearly a Pride thread.

And any comparison of boxing and mma is ridiculous. Put any strict martial artist i.e. judo etc in the ring in a boxing match and he will be terribly outgunned. Put the same competent boxer in an octagon or what have you and his odds of success will be much stronger. Theyre two entirely distinct disciplines, with just about as much in common as amatuer and pro wrestling. MMA tends to veer off into the boring very easilly with the submision holds and lengthy one-hold matches. All are dangerous sports, and boxing is most dangerous of all due to the ammount of blows to the head. All of the sports are of the variety where no participant will be able to retire injury-free.

Im thinking it would be nice of the WWE to include an Owen match or Owen moment in their BEST OF besides the funeral....to show the current fans who might not know what a good talent he really was.

They should release a BRET HART best of. Let bret pick the matches and narrate it....it would make money, it would probably make bret damn happy and it would bury the hatchet in a way that doesnt hurt anyone or make anyone feel like a sell out.

id buy it

The only boxer that stands a chance against a martial artist is Lennox Lewis and that is because of his training in the martial arts. All it would take is a takedown that the boxer is unable to defend and you've already taken out his biggest asset: stand-up. Whereas boxer tend to use jabs to keep their opponents at bay, Vanderlei, the Gracies, even the Sham would pound away at the knee and hit a shoot and lights out. My reccomendation if you want to see why is Inoki/Ali. Inoki's a horrible fighter but if you look at Ali, but Inoki adopts a totally lay and pray style and Ali has no chance to go in but Inoki just keeps on chopping away at his knees. Look at all the early UFC's and see people getting dominated, no matter what discipline or boxing or wrestling, by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Boxer's get their asses kicked by someone with takedowns, kicks, knees, and mat game ninety percent of the time. Or a jiu jitsu artist. Jeet Kun Do. But That's the precedence the WWE was looking at with Lewis.

I didnt mean to say that the boxer would beat the martial artist in the octagon. What Im saying is that in a straight up boxing match, the boxer is pretty much guranteed the victory there. In a shootfight, the mma guy would probably win, but the boxer would have a better chance in that fight then the martial artist would in the boxing match.

Ya get what Im saying here?

If the martial artist was regulated to punching? Doesn't that negate the whole martial artist thing?

Yes. Exactly. And thats my point, it really does make the comparison between boxing and mms moot.

That's some bizarre logic. What does the boxer's chances in MMA, or vice versa, have to do with anything?

I guess the boxer would have a better chance in the other discipline, but still you're talking something like a .01% chance over 0% for the other way around

This is not necessarily true. Bob Sapp beat perhaps the greatest kickboxer of all time (Hoost) TWICE in a kickboxing match. Randy Couture, Don Frye, Maurice Smith, Chuck Liddell, Pat Militich and a host of others have trained in boxing and would fare much better in the ring than a boxer would in the octagon. It's called MIXED martial arts, therefore it takes a variety of disciplines and makes it into a fighters personal style. Boxing has always been a single-disciplined sport, you don't have to kick, grapple, or submit. MMA will make boxing a thing of the past- which is why guys like John McCain have tried to get rid of it in the states.

I dont find my logic to be particularly bizarre at all. Comparing boxing and mma is like apples and oranges. One is entirely one dimenional (boxing) with punching being the only offense and punishment received. MMA is all-dimensional and incorporates every fighting style and spreads the offense and punishment throughout the body.

I am not saying that boxing is a bettter discipline than mma, or vice verse. Im only saying that they cant really be compared, simply because theyre so different.

And I highly doubt that mma will EVER make boxing a thing of the past.

You know, I think there's a place called MMA to talk about MMA. This is the WWE folder. Just take your MMA talk over there.

If MMA ever broke through and was put forth properly and given as much hype as boxing, yeah. Even if it was just respected enough rather than just the ignorant it's barbaric.
