Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I'm a big Rock fan. Is it just New York, that hates him? Also, why is he getting booed for making movies, and more money. But Austin walks out, and gets cheered like crazy?
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I dunno if it's going to be a trend. New York fans sometimes have strange reactions (ie. booing Shawn at SS when he was the top babyface) to some wrestlers. But I think that he would make an excellent heel, so either way is fine with me.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 15, 2003 No- Toronto hates him as well. Here's my theory- The fans view him as a sell out who claimed he was WWE 4 Life but is obviously not. They see him as a guy who has basically abadoned him for Hollywood. They see Austin as a rebel who left on his own terms just like Stone Cold would.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I think Bob put it best there..Austin left on his own terms..and The Rock looks like a sell out right now. Was this hatred felt for Hogan back when he was making movies?
Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Sell out???????? Over what. For taking advantage of opportunities, that no one else would pass up.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2003 No. Sell-out for making more movies for his own money circumstances than entertaining in the ring. He's been on a movie set more in the last two years than he has in the ring.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted January 15, 2003 it was painful to watch rocky go through the motions of a face promo while the crowd booed him. i can't believe vince would try to keep face status with him. on one hand, i wish the rock could've been there live to feed off the negative reaction, because he feeds off the crowd well and could've made a heel turn on the spot. on the other hand, if he'd shown up the reaction probably would've been a lot more positive. i'm sure there would still be some dissenters, but not nearly as many as we heard. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Sounds like how Philly mutants would chant "You Sold Out" to departing wrestlers who actually wanted a steady paycheck so they could put food on the table. It's really not logical but then again it IS wrestling fans after all.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Sell out???????? Over what. For taking advantage of opportunities, that no one else would pass up. Well that's what the fans think. And to be fair- Rock really isn't making them not think that
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I really dislike the term "sell-out". C'mon people, anyone would take those oppertunities. This is like when ECW fans would chant "sell-out" to wrestlers going to better places...
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted January 15, 2003 i hope tonight the wwe realised that its gonna be pretty hard to bring the rock back as a face... i mean those new yorkers were all over him... booing.. chanting boring (which shouldve been meant for HHH)...hell i was pissed as well... the "hollywood" actor couldn't even fly out to new york to see his WWE fans and accept an award and be part of RAWs tenth year... thats disrespectfull and if the rock is going to come back demanding and thinking he is all big then he needs to go. I hope he behaves though.. i like the rock in the ring and his character... oh well
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Maybe the fans are tired of the Rock coming back for a couple months only to take 6 off. Or maybe the fans are just tired of the Rock...he's been doing the same bit forever and it's really stale, he hasn't had any new good material in a couple years
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I'm sure Rock is torn up about it, too. He's making more than twice the money he would be in wrestling and not having to destroy his body in the process, so I doubt that the disapproval of some selfish asshole fans means much to him. Guest Ace309 Report post Posted January 15, 2003 So the fans are 'selfish assholes' for being sick of Rocky's same six catchphrases that they see ad nauseum whenever he happens to return to have a cup of coffee with the World Title before going back to Hollywood?
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Yeah, that was sarcasm. I can pretty sure that he doesn't give a fuck. Vince, on the other hand, should find it a little disconcerting.
Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted January 15, 2003 If he caomes back heel, what face on Smackdown , will he feud with? Brock or Edge? Also, he instantly becomes the #1 heel, which may mean he pushes Angle back down to #2.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Him putting over RVD or Edge is what I would do. Yea I know RVD is he on RAW but they can always figure out a way to get him on there
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 So the fans are 'selfish assholes' for being sick of Rocky's same six catchphrases that they see ad nauseum whenever he happens to return to have a cup of coffee with the World Title before going back to Hollywood? No. These particular fans are selfish assholes because they're ready and willing to turn on a wrestler for making a decision that benefits himself and his family. In this case, it's The Rock making movies. In the past, it's been a wrestler jumping from an indy to a major company. I think a lot of the negativity towards Rock from the fans comes from this, rather than them being tired of his schtick. That's certainly up for debate, though. Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Bob, does RVD have the mic skills to hang with the Rock? Also, after Angle & Lesnar feud for the title is over, let Rock feud with brock. He never got his rematch, when he lost the belt.
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I want to see a Rock vs. Edge feud personally...RVD should win the Rumble.

I think if they build RVD back up and if the Rock is as hated as I predict- they could really make it work
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I want to see a Rock vs. Edge feud personally...RVD should win the Rumble. How do you figure? For the storyline to actually pay off in a way that makes sense, Brock needs to win the Rumble.
Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Bob, how much do you think the Rock will get? For example, people hate HHH, but when his music hits, the cheer him like crazy. i can imagine that happening to The Rock, when his music hits, people are going to go crazy. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted January 15, 2003 How long are they going to play off Rock's boos like they're not happening? How long till they say fuck it and try and turn him
Guest godthedog Report post Posted January 15, 2003 if vince grows the balls to make him a top heel instead of a top face, i still say there's boatloads of money to be made. as pissed as the fans are, he's still entertaining and they'll still pay to see him. they just need to change his role and make him into the guy that the fans want to see get his comeuppance. have rocky come back and be all like "hey, i want that title," brock says "hey, what makes you think you deserve this shot, you're not even a wrestler anymore." rocky gets a shot at the title cause he's a big star, even though he doesn't bust his ass like everybody else does. he wins the title by cheating, then promtly takes it to hollywood with him, making no tv appearances. or just make him stand in the middle of the ring with his title for 2 minutes every show, not saying anything and refusing to wrestle. brock beats the shit out of him & goads him into a title match, which rocky could lose (where he'd get his comeuppance) or win (where he'd take the title back to hollywood with him until he DOES get his comeuppance). there: simple. effective. For the storyline to actually pay off in a way that makes sense, Brock needs to win the Rumble. Team Angle is going to screw over Brock in the final four somehow to build even more tension, Jericho and HBK will eliminate each other and feud building to WM. Actually RVD is my darkhorse pick...so I thought, "why not"?
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted January 15, 2003 on one hand, i wish the rock could've been there live to feed off the negative reaction, because he feeds off the crowd well and could've made a heel turn on the spot. on the other hand, if he'd shown up the reaction probably would've been a lot more positive. i'm sure there would still be some dissenters, but not nearly as many as we heard. Thank you. Exactly. The fact that Rock was there via satellite instead of live makes a HUGE difference. 1) this just magnifies the fact that he's blowing off wrestling to shoot movies. What, he's too busy making movies to show up for one day to this huge WWE anniversary ceremony? Where's he has won an award no less? How much does he REALLY care about the 'people'? 2) around this time, it probably was sinking in for the fans in attendance that zero surprise guests would be showing up. Rock popping up on the video wall was the nail in the coffin. It's easy to see why they'd be reacting negatively. If he showed up live and did the same speech, I guarantee a much warmer reception. Still some boos because it's New York, and he IS a sellout still but nothing like what we witnessed. That being said, I hope they DO make him a heel when he comes back. I really think it could work now. Fans now have a reason to boo him and he just needs to play off that, with a prima-donna 'I don't need wrestling' attitude.
