EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Raiders - Bill Callahan replaced Jon Gruden Feb 2002-All I know is that the Raiders made the best deal ever when dealing Gruden. Now they are playing for a title (as is Gruden) BUT NOW THEY HAVE DRAFT PICKS. 49ers - Mooch gone as of today-Uncalled for. Mooch should never have been fired. It was not his fault that he had only Garcia and Owens for his offensive weapons. Management should have gone and gotten a reliable running back. They switched off too much between Hearst and Barlow to establish an actual backfield. A's - Ken Macha replaced Art Howe Oct 2002-What I don't get is that when Art Howe gets you to the playoffs three cosecutive years with a couple of nobodys, you should get the same respect as anybody else. And he goes to the Mets, a vastly inferior team to do...what? Giants - Felipe Alou replaced Dusty Baker Nov 2002-Biggest mistake. BIGGER than the release of Mariucci. Baker should have been able to get the money and the services he deserved. The Giants, without Kent AND Baker, might not even make it to the playoffs. Warriors - Eric Musselman replaced Brian Winters July 2002-For a team that is contending WITH THE LAKERS in the conference, I applaud Musselmen for coming in and turning that team in the right direction. These guys could be in the playoffs as early as next year, I think. Sharks - Ron Wilson replaced coach Darryl Sutter Dec 2002-Hockey is a weird sport. The Avalance fired their coach when they were OVER .500. Now, Sutter, the best coach in Sharks history, is released. Another stupid decision by management. Guest treble charged Report post Posted January 15, 2003 I wouldn't feel too sorry for Darryl Sutter, as he landed on his feet in Calgary. Sure, the Flames suck, but he should have a chance to turn them around. But, besides the Warriors and the Sharks, were any of those coaches/managers actually fired? Didn't Howe's and Baker's contracts just run up?
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted January 15, 2003 Yeah, Baker and Howe had contracts that expired. Howe was forced to sign one year contracts each of the last 3 years, totally disrespectful.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted January 15, 2003 While Howe probably did deserve more respect from the Oakland front office, you can only get to the playoffs and lose in the first round so many times before people start to get tired with your act. 2000 - Oakland, a good, young, small-market team loses to the big, mean Yankees, who go on to win the World Series. Howe looks good. 2001 - Oakland, a very good, still young, small-market teams loses, again, to the Yankees, despite having the Yankees by the throat, going home after 2 games. Howe doesn't look quite so good. 2002 - Oakland, still a very good, young team loses to an even SMALLER market team who they really should have beaten. Howe wears out his welcome. Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 16, 2003 49ers - Mooch gone as of today-Uncalled for. Mooch should never have been fired. He absolutely should have been fired. Were I an owner, there would be no way I could deal with someone as gutless as Mariucci as my coach. The cowardice he displayed in the SF-Tampa Bay game was his undoing, even if the organization is spinning it another way.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Mariucci committed the kiss of death as a coach as he gave up on himself and his players at the end of the TB game. You take your ass kicking like a man and you fight until the game is over no matter how large the deficit is. Mooch finally gave the front office a reason to get rid of him and he was an idiot for doing so and I feel no pity for him in that respect.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2003 However, I am going to say this. Mariucci inherited a team that the MANAGEMENT fucked up with. Rice, Owens, Hearst when he was good, Garcia, ALL on the same team, and they DONT OFFER RICE A CONTRACT. Mariucci never got to the Super Bowl because he never had the talent on both sides of the ball like the past great teams of the Niners dynasties. However, his performance in TB was disheartening to me as a fan and to anyone else watching that game. If that game was the game that decided his job (which none of us are really sure of), than he certainly did more to warrant his firing.
