A-Train: ‘I’m lucky’

by Phil Speer

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Jan. 12, 2003 – A-Train is here at the Continental Airlines Arena, ready to compete tonight. That, in and of itself, is a major accomplishment.

When Brock Lesnar gave A-Train an F-5 last week on SmackDown! – after the cameras stopped rolling – A-Train landed on his head. He temporarily blacked out and lost feeling in his body, except his fingers and feet, but subsequent X-rays and an MRI exam revealed no breakage or damage.

“Brock and I had some bad timing,” A-Train said. “I ended up landing (and) spiking myself. I was just a freak accident. I just remember seeing the ground coming up really quick, and me tucking my chin.”

The talk around the locker room today was that if the accident had happened to anyone on the roster, other than A-Train, it could have resulted in a career-threatening injury.

“They keep saying I’m tough,” A-Train said. “I think I’m lucky. Big difference.”

As a precaution, A-Train was given the night off from a non-televised event in Trenton, N.J. last night, although he said he was ready to compete. Tonight, he was back in action on this special Sunday night SmackDown! taping. Obviously, his neck area is still sore and tight.

“I wouldn’t say it hurts,” he said. “It’s painful, but I’ve suffered through worse pain.”

...so there you have it, everyone's favorite hoss is going to be ok!

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

I don't want to see anyone injured, but

I DEMAND A SECOND OPINION, this could be a serious injury. As a precaution, I say give him the next 76 and 1/2 years off, better safe than sorry you know.

I personally wish they had named him "A-Hoss", as in, he is one. I actually have enjoyed him on TV for the past few weeks, I think I'm going crazy or something.

Man, who would have won the Royal Rumble if he wasn't able to compete? And where were his awards last night?

Oh, let's praise the heavens! A-Train, and all his hairy fetishes, will be back on our TVs soon! Oh thank GOD! I was getting soooooo worried! The WWE...yup, they know the fans just WANT to see A-Train on SD and Matt on Velocity. So glad the WWE knows what the "fans" want!

Hey, is everyone now going to say that Brock Lesnar has no place in WWE and that he is a threat to everyone, and almost kills EVERYONE he fights now just because of this accident? I mean, that's what many of you say about Goldberg, just wondering!

Causing an injury to a useless slug while performing an extremely difficult wrestling move, where the fault of the injury can't even be definately placed on him, isn't really the same as ending a legend's career with a kick.

Goldberg's a dumb fuck for that shit and shouldn't be allowed to wrestle again. What I find funny is how RVD made everyone bleed and he was evil yet Brock almost seriously injured the Train and everyone was like woohoo. A-Train is still a human like any of us (well like most of us...) and to wish he got injured is wrong. Atleast he isn't like Droz and thinks everyone should go on a pilgrimage and pay homage to him. And Yuna don't even call A-Train gross you like X-Pac, Tazz, Richards, AND Cole.....'nuff said.

I don't think anyone here WISHES he would have gotten a serious injury (at least i hope). IT's just that the guy shouldt really be main eventing any shows and should be relegated to Velocity. I think the Brock and Goldberg situations were different. Brock's move is a very tough one and especially with a 350 lb guy on your shoulder he messed up. It happens. Goldberg kicked Bret Hart in the face as hard as he could. Cmon man, that's basic shit holding your kicks back instead of nailing someone that hard. I thought he was training Jamal that day he kicked the hell out of the Lesbian from the HLA segment. Goldberg was super careless. Brock was kinda careless too but not to the same extent.

It really doesn't matter if it's a useless slug or a legend. They're both opponents, and what happens to one guy could happen to another. The difficulty of the injury-causing maneuvers should be taken into account, but the bottom line is both were hurt. The most important variable there is who was at fault, and I'll admit Goldberg was more at fault than Brock was, since it's kind of hard to tell who flubbed the F-5.

What I find funny is how RVD made everyone bleed and he was evil yet Brock almost seriously injured the Train and everyone was like woohoo. A-Train is still a human like any of us (well like most of us...) and to wish he got injured is wrong.

People got on RVD for busting up people? That seems strange, since the general population here seems to like him.

The A-Train stuff I agree with, although I'm sure a lot of the comments are in jest. Although if anyone that's made them, jokingly or not, has also complained about HBK's Bertha Faye joke, they can go fuck themselves.

Atleast he isn't like Droz and thinks everyone should go on a pilgrimage and pay homage to him.

Huh? Is this just a reference to the "shake my hand" deal, or did I miss something?

And Yuna don't even call A-Train gross you like X-Pac, Tazz, Richards, AND Cole.....'nuff said.

I don't know how you could find Steven Richards gross. That handsome chap is one of the most good-looking men on the roster.

Goldberg was super careless.  Brock was kinda careless too but not to the same extent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Goldberg not even looking at Bret when he hit the kick?

I don't think anyone here WISHES he would have gotten a serious injury (at least i hope).  IT's just that the guy shouldt really be main eventing any shows and should be relegated to Velocity.

He's nowhere close to a main-eventer. It looked like he might've been when he first got the name change, but he was squashed in about three minutes in that Brock match.

I heard that the "Harriest RAW Superstar Award" was cut from the show due to time constraints..

A-Train would have won too.

Miguel Perez.

You're right, he wasn't even looking at Bret when he kicked which makes him super careless in that matter. A-Train hasn't really been a main eventer but the guy has been getting major angles and is getting plenty of TV time. I do think that's over already though

I LOVE watching some hate on Goldberg, only because of this. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it was an accident, totally uncharateristic of Goldberg, as he never hurt anyone besides Bret in that way, and only gave a few bumbs and bruises to two other guys, as told to me by Dave Meltzer.

Not only that, but GOLDBERG didn't even end Bret's career, it's just a damn excuse all of you try to use to warrent your hate for him. Bret was ALREADY on the brink of having to retire due to head injury's. Then the Goldberg thing happened, and after that, Bret COULD have had a longer career, the only reason he did not was because the WCW bookers (I forget who they were at that time, they seemed to change every week), forced Bret to go out there over and over again, resulted in matches against Terry Funk, etc... in which he sustained various other head injury's and the such. Even Bret himself blames WCW bookers and not Goldberg.

But I'll sit here and read you try to blame Goldberg as the SOLE reason Bret retired, and try to support your hate based on things that aren't just aren't true, I find it insanely entertaining.

I've never seen Dutch Mantell without a shirt on. Was Miguel Perez, Sr. as hairy as his son? I'm assuming that be something that would run in his gross, disgusting-looking family.

I don't think Goldberg ever looked when he threw that kick, now that I think about it. Did Bret even get his hands up or did he get smacked flush in the face?

I wouldn't say A-Train is really getting a major push (though I guess it is compared to what he was doing) before. I just think it's more of the WWE deciding to utilize him more as the monster character he was born to play. Someone for the faces to go over, but for that to mean anything, they had to make him seem more important than losing to Funaki. I think they did a good job with that.

SA -

You know how Albert is just covered with short hair all over his back? Dutch had a MANE. Seriously, it was solid 2-3 inch long hair in like a "V".

My problems with Goldberg was that he was hurt too often and he often had pretty meaningless matches against guys with no chance... like Jerry Flynn. But thats about it.

And you're dead on with the A-Train comments.

I don't hate GoldBerg at all. As a matter of fact, I thought he was very entertaining and charasmatic with a nice power moveset. I also, dont blame him for ending Bret's career. The fact of the matter though, is that it was very careless that kick he gave to Bret. The man wasn't even looking when he kicked him, and he didn't pull back at all. You can't just throw that out the window just because he didnt have a reputation for hurting people. For the most part he was very good with protecting his opponents, but that kick was brutal and he could have killed him with it.

Sure you can throw it out the window, shit like that happens to people all the time (legend or not). It was an accident, Goldberg didn't pull the kick enough and it hit Bret square in the head. Quite frankly, I'm tired of people talking about it, it wasn't anything other than a mistake. I could go on and on about people who've injured other guys in the ring on accidend, just like this. Many of which are "smarks favorites" mind you.

When will the Own Hart hate for basicly ending Austin's career as a "wrestler"? After that inciden Austin was NEVER the same, so let's all hate on Owen Hart for it, that'll be fun! Oh, wait, that was an accident also, there is no use to blame anyone for that.

This is Pro. Wrestling folks, not balet, and people will get hurt, people will be retired, and accidents will happen, year after year.

Like I said, I like Goldberg and think he's a great talent. I don't hate the guy or blame him for anything. I'm just saying the truth.....and all that is is that compared to Brock injuring A-Train Goldberg had a lot more control of the situation that was involved and injured bret badly. Shit happens....everyone gets injured.....Owen injuring Austin, D-Lo paralyzing Droz, Sid breaking his ankle from jumping a few feet off a turnbuckle, Angle breaking Bob Holly's arm, Benoit breaking Sabu's neck.......this is my point, shit happens.......it's a tough business and EVERYONE gets hurt.

I've always hated Goldberg because his squashes were incredibly boring. Goldberg wasn't the sole reason he had to retire but if you already have head injuries getting a hard mule kick to the grill doesn't make matters better...

When did I EVER say I liked Tazz? The only reason Tazz was in my sig was because of Cole, who yes, is quite the hotty, especially in his leather jacket, and Nida's a damn lucky gal. Not just for giving a lap dance to Cole, though, I mean, the gal's kissed most of the midcards on Smackdown!

Cole and Tazz aside, what are the other names? Seanny and Stevie. Compare those two to Albert. Yeah, notice the difference? Say what you want 'bout Seanny//Stevie, but at least they are in decent shape, physically, not walking around looking like a goddamned forest.

To sum it up:

GR + NC + PH > A

(Grease Rat, Nerdy Commentator, Psycho Hotness, and at the end, Albert.)

X-Pac is in decent shape? So looking like a rat and being drunk off your ass and high all the time is good shape?

So to use your own corny formulas:

If a train is traveling at F(variable)5 miles per hour heading into Bill DeMott's tunnel>6+SR+MC
