Should rey be given the CW belt?

Recommended Posts

Guest saturnmark4life

I just think that now they have a cruiserweight who is over huge, he could make the division more credible. He's got tajiri, noble, kidman and nunzio to work with, that's a start. Stick him in there and people will give a crap, meaning longer matches, higher up the card. Plus he needs a singles push, now the tag feud has run its course. I'm not wanting to de-push him or anything, but now they've scrapped the IC belt (still none too happy with THAT) it seems like the way to go.

If they're going to give him the belt, they should build it up with a strong heel champ for him to chase.

I thought they were going to do it with Noble since he held the belt for a good 5 months, but they had Billy "Mr. Personality" Kidman beat him instead. They could still do it with Nunzio or Spanky though.

yeah, I forgot about spanky. Never seen him wrestle, like, but I hear good. There's also the small point of hurricane being on raw, which is a shame. Build matt up as a strong heel champ.

First off, they can't just give Rey the belt. It's not going to be that easy. They should really consider putting the belt back on Knoble, have Nunzio start yanking the strings, and build around the Knoble vs. Rey match for Mania or even later.

The thing is, the division has been getting much more airtime than ever before (between Rey and Chavo in the uppercard, Funaki, and the occasional Kidman/Knoble/Nunzio/Crash/Tajiri appearance); the belt is still in the background. Rey's the guy to really build that around, especially with Chavo. Turn Nunzio and Nidia on Knoble eventually making him somewhat of a middle-class hero, Mysterio vs. Chavo over the title, and work in the others.

Reminds me about Spanky. I think the eventual thing is that if the gimmick catches on, he needs to turn heel almost immediately. Talk about how he's always playing to the crowd but having to hide his beautiful, pretty boy looks. Turn him into a real arrogant prick. Would probably make a good feud with Tajiri or maybe Kidman.

I compare Rey to Chyna in this sense, in that WWE felt that Chyna was too big for the Women's Title, just like I feel that they think that Rey is too big for the Cruiserweight Title.

He's not too big for the Cruiserweight title if the belt is built up to look more prestigious.

Rey should be the foundation that they build the division on, as he's the most recognized and decorated cruiser they have. Well, at least for now he is, because let's not forget that Ultimo Dragon is on target for debut in the next little while and we all know that he and Rey can tear it down.

He SHOULD be the guy that is the foundation for that division, he should, no doubt. I simply feel that WWE's thinking is like this...

"Ok, we have Rey here who is very over and get's huge pops about every time he goes out. We have the Cruiserweight title which means basicly nothing in the fans eyes. It just doesn't make sense to me to put such a lowly title on him with him being so over. Let's put him in a tag team, or let's have him start wrestling with the big boys!"

...I don't agree with that, I feel he could lift that division up to heights never seen in WWE, ALONG with all the guys in said division, I just don't feel WWE shares that same line of thinking.

Yeah, because the WWE obviously listens to what the crowd pops for. I mean, we all know that RVD is the Raw champion.

I agree Downhome about the thinking of the WWE....they may feel he's too big of a star to be relegated to the cruiserweight division. But, if you build it up right god knows they have the talent to make it work....Tajiri, Knoble, Nunzio, Rey, Kidman, Spanky, Ultimo Dragon soon......For christ's sake.......................Rey Mysterio vs. Ultimo Dragon for the Cruiserweight Title could main event a PPV on my TV screen any freakin day of the week!

Yes, with Rey I'm sure they are listening to the crowd reaction to him. There are more reasons that they are holding RVD back right now, but this topic isn't about him. Start a topic about it, then I'll discuss him if you want.

Untill they actually show like they're going to do anything with the divison I could care less what they do with the belt...I wish they would book some shows heavy on the cruisers and see if the people will at least tune in.

Yes, I'm sure it could be huge, but you forget one thing. The WWE does not have a history of having any idea what to do with a Lightweight/Cruiserweight division. I mean, they had fucking TAKA and The Great Sasuke in their fed at one time, and still didn't truly do all that much with it, just a couple matches here and there.

For it to be succesfull, they would have to do a lot more than just put Rey in there with the others in the division. They would have to allow them to truly work the "Cruiserweight style", and that's that. The only reason that it got so over in WCW was because it was TOTALLY different than everything else on WCW TV, it was something different and the fans loved it.

NO NO NO NO NO NO! That would be a bigger mistake than any! The fans are not going to JUST turn in for Crusiers. If they gave the Cruisers a "shot", yet still had a lackluster product in other key areas of the show, the ratings will not be affected really. They would just say well, those guys did nothing for us, let's just drop it, again.

So you're happy with one cruiser match a week then? The divison is a joke.

Watch Velocity this week.

I agree. He's far and away the best option right now. He has "heavyweight cred," too.

Huh? He hasn't been signed yet, has he?

Of course not, but if you put the guys all over the show while the ratings aren't THAT great, WWE will interpret it as if they are not worth building up and making them anything.

They should start slow, with an actual storyline involving more than two guys. Not some sort of soap storyline though, that does NOT belong in the Cruiserweight division. They should start a storyline in which all of the guys yern for that damn title. They need to make it seem like that title means the entire world to them, and have a type of tourny over it. In doing this, they need to allow them to WORK damnit, work their own styles, allow them to be totally different than the rest of the WWE product.

Build this up as huge, one of the main things in WWE. Show commercials for the tourny, show clips of it all the time, build it up huge for the next week, and lead up to a huge pay off for someone, have it be Rey, Ultimo (if he even came in), Noble, or whoever and have that person INSTANTLY go into a feud with someone after winning the title. To make it better, have it be a few guys in the feud. They need to build it up like hell, and do it slowly over months, not weeks.

This is the only way to finally get it over, if they even want to.

Well WCW at most had two CW matches on one show.

They could still make it a good division with only a few matches each week. Having alot of matches isn't needed to get the division over. Let the matches be unique and let the feuds tell the story with the wrestling and confrontations. Since the division could do well without complex angles all WWE would have to do is give them 10 minutes a week on Smackdown and the division would grow and catch on. Of course the more time they give the division on Smackdown the better, but they could make even 10 minutes help the division.

Velocity could be used to build up the secondary storylines and to further the main feud that's seen on Smackdown as well.

However the key is WWE allowing them to wrestle unique matches that use the "cruiserweight style" more often.

I guess, since the Intercontinental title is dead. Personally, I feel that Rey is above the cruiserweight title.

Rey needs to lose some muscle first. Then WWE needs to stop having Rey in matches with Big Show and Albert. No one will buy the other cruiserweights as a threat to Rey when Rey is taking on all those 350 pound monsters....WWE marks don't know Rey past his wwe years sans maybe the doom days of WCW....

LOSE some muscle? Oh yeah, that will help his standing with Vince...the guy is 5'3", he needs all the muscle he can get.

I DO happen to agree with that. I just don't like the idea of stuffing Rey (Or for that matter, Noble, Chavo and the others) into a group that's very definition suggests that they are to small to do anything. It reeks of consolation prize.

There was a rumor Ultimo would sign but he hasn't and I don't even think they're in talks anymore.

unfortunately a while back they deemed that Rey Mystero is going into the Heavy weight ranks.

Why? Because he is a Name....and For Some Reason Vince doesn't like big Names going for the Cruiserweights...

And Why?

Because he dislikes Cruiserweights and doesn't know how to book it.

Rey Would be a awesome crusierweight champion, but people know Rey Rey....

look at who are cruiserweights in the division

Jamie Noble, Crash, Guido (Nunzo) Shannon Moore. Billy Kidman, Funaki. we know them, but Outside us, people know Rey Mystero over them and Vince wants Rey to be that pint size Underdog that always fights the Alberts Big shows and the like... Lets run that David and Golath shit to the ground.

Rey is above the Crusierweight...but he has no where really to go. That's why they need to bring back the IC title or something.

Actually, I hope that the KOTR tourney is for a title shot and SS. That way, the tournament doesn't scream MIDCARDER.

Hell I want the tourny to go Midcarder...

Royal Rumble is spoiled and only is won by Main Eventers...

and there aren't any Survivor Series matches anymore.

Well they can't build it up as a platform for greatness if it's just a midcarders tourney.
