Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 27, 2003 The Vikings might trade town, any taker for the 7th pick. Tom you could be the Smarks Mel Kiper, Jr. Mock Draft Expert.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted January 27, 2003 I don't think the Cardinals will draft a QB. I heard they are quite impressed by their backup Josh McNown, and look at him as their "QB of the future."
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 27, 2003 It never works like that. The mid to late round QB's are supposed to come out of nowhere and play well.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 27, 2003 The Ravens need a Wide Reciever. The Ravens can't expect to do well and have Todd Heap be their #1 reciever. They need a quarterback more. Receivers are nice to have, but someone has to get them the ball. Besides, David Boston (whom the Ravens should definitely pursue) and Peerless Price (questionable whether he can be a #1) are available as free agents, and more could become available once the salary cap purges happen. A franchise QB, though, doesn't come along often. Blake's not the answer, Redman has a balky back, and the best free agent right now is Jake Plummer. Trade up and take Leftwich. It's by far their best option.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 28, 2003 I've got the Jets
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted January 28, 2003 The Patriots really have a lot of holes to fill. Antowain Smith isn't the answer at RB, that's become pretty apparent, their defense isn't getting any younger (or better), and Brady could use a big target to throw to (well, one that understands the playbook, unlike Donald Hayes). Some people want them to trade up to a top 5 pick, but I think they should keep the two 1st rounders (perhaps trading later picks) and grab a RB and the best defensive player available. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 28, 2003 Unless they get Charlie Rogers Patriots wouldn't gain anything from being in the top 5. They can get a good defensive player and rb or wr where they're at.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 28, 2003 According to Mel Kiper the Top RB won't go until mid to late 1st round. They could probably take one with one of their picks.
Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted January 28, 2003 See, had I called the Ravens, I would have said, "Trade up and pick Byron Leftwich." But since I didn't, I'll just watch from the sidelines and jeer the poor schlep who has to follow such a magnificent suggestion. The Ravens need a Wide Reciever. The Ravens can't expect to do well and have Todd Heap be their #1 reciever. See, now Im not so sorry that I beat you guys to the Ravens pick. The only two receivers worthy of drafting at the Ravens 10/11 spot (Charles Rogers, Mich. St. - Andre Johnson, Miami), most likely will be gone within the first 5 picks. Since it usually takes a WR at least a season before they start realizing their potential, Im much more in favor of aquiring an established wideout via FA anyway. Peerless Price is first on my wishlist. The arguement of uncertainty on his production as a #1 has less ammunition when you think that while Buffalo did have Moulds on the other side, they didnt have a difference maker RB and play maker TE that the Ravens have(Jamal Lewis, Todd Heap). Price is the perfect fit for this O. As far as trading up for Leftwich, Im not willing to back up the Brinks truck for a QB that played for Marshall. Do I think Leftwich will become a good NFL QB? Most likely. Is he a slam dunk, worthy of trading up from the 10 spot? I dont think so. Pennington was drafted from Marshall, slowly brought along, finally getting his chance this year and the Jets reaped the benifits. The more gifted Leftwich would most likely be pressed into playing sooner and could cost the team several games while he progresses. I think the window of opportunity opens this year for the Ravens and a rookie QB could squander a year or so that Im not willing to give up.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2003 My top 10, remember, I'm no expert, but I do know that the Bengals should get more sacks, not risk it with another big name college Heisman star 1. Cincinnati Bengals - Terrell Suggs, DE, Arizona State 2. Detroit Lions - Rien Long, DL, Washington State 3. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Houston) - Charles Rogers, WR, Michigan State 4. Chicago Bears - Byron Leftwich, QB, Marshall 5. Dallas Cowboys - Andre Johnson, WR, Miami 6. Arizona Cardinals - Carson Palmer, QB, USC 7. Minnesota Vikings - Terrence Newman, CB, Kansas State 8. Houston Texans (from Jacksonville) - Jordan Gross, OT, Utah 9. Carolina Panthers - Eric Steinbech, OL, Georgia 10. Baltimore Ravens - Jimmy Kennedy, DT, Penn State and I pick the Chiefs for the draft
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Palmer at #6? I really think he's the real deal, and the Bengals will make a good choice if they draft him.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I don't buy Palmer.. he has the Heisman curse attached to him and a Heisman winning QB has NEVER been any good (the only close exceptions might be Plunkett and Testaverde and they were good ten years into their careers) Gino Torretta never did anything, Chris Weinke hasn't done anything, how many times can teams blow their first pick on such a risk? Terrell Suggs racked up more sacks in one year than the ENTIRE Cincinnati Bengals team. Suggs is a much easier pick to make at #
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 29, 2003 The Heisman curse is overrated. If you look at alot of the Heisman winners it shouldn't suprise anyone that they didn't have great NFL careers. Palmer just seems different. He's the first NFL style QB to win since Vinnie, and I think he's got more of a brain than Vinnie did when he was drafted. Another player I really like is E.J. Henderson. I see him being the next great inside LB in the NFL.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2003 one advantage for Suggs over Palmer. Marvin Lewis is a defensive coach. Palmer coming in would undo any progress made with Jon Kitna. Suggs can slide in and play on defense
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I don't think it's a lock the Bengals will draft a QB with the first pick. I just think Palmer won't be a bust, and would be a good pick if the Bengals decide to go that route.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I mentioned on a Bengals board that they should get alot of picks by trading unhappy players. Send Takeo off for picks Send Curtis Keaton off for picks Draft picks are a good thing right now for Cincy I'd also get rid of Akili and try to get Todd Bouman or Mike McMahon
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Well Spikes is gone from Cincy now if he wants to be so Bengals won't get any picks out of him.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2003 the Bengal fans thought that Cincy could keep him for a year and then swiftly trade him away
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Well if Spikes resigns that would be a good sign that he wants to stay in Cincy. Why would they trade their best defensive player after he resigned showing that he wants to be there. If he doesn't want to stay he will be gone first chance he gets. Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I'll take Jacksonville.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted January 29, 2003 If the Bengals don't want Palmer, then the should trade the #1 pick to a team that does.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I don't buy Palmer.. he has the Heisman curse attached to him and a Heisman winning QB has NEVER been any good... The recent ones have certainly been busts in the NFL. However, Palmer looks like he's the real deal. He reminds me a lot of Troy Aikman, who was both an excellent college QB and a very good NFL QB. I don't think Cincy really needs him, since there's nothing at all wrong with Jon Kitna. Suggs is probably a better fit for their team, and I think Marvin Lewis would rather have the defensive stud than the big-name QB. Suggs and Justin Smith would be the foundation for a pretty dashed good D line.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 29, 2003 The arguement of uncertainty on his production as a #1 has less ammunition when you think that while Buffalo did have Moulds on the other side, they didnt have a difference maker RB and play maker TE that the Ravens have(Jamal Lewis, Todd Heap). Price is the perfect fit for this O. Travis Henry had a pretty good year at RB. While the Bills do lack a playmaker at TE, their deficiency in skill at those positions is made up for when you consider their QB is better than anyone the Ravens have ever had at the position (even the immortal Stoney Case... ). I like Boston over Moulds, but I also have a bias for big receivers because of the mismatches they create in the secondary. Price might not be a bad pickup, but I'd rather see a tall, physical guy like Boston, who still has the speed to get open down the field. As far as trading up for Leftwich, Im not willing to back up the Brinks truck for a QB that played for Marshall. Do I think Leftwich will become a good NFL QB? Most likely. Is he a slam dunk, worthy of trading up from the 10 spot? I dont think so. I do, and that's going to be where we differ. He has an awful lot of talent, and I think he could be the next Steve McNair or Daunte Culpepper (which was a compliment up until this year). The Ravens can play Redman in the meantime and get serviceable production out of the position until Leftwich is ready -- meaning when Redman's back gives out again. The Ravens' plan was always to be good in 2004, but I think they can jump that and be competitive next year. Leftwich wouldn't hurt that timetable at all. Guest bravesfan Report post Posted January 30, 2003 I'll take Green Bay. When is this thing anyways? I figure, the first Saturday after the entire field has been set. This is to buy time for the last poster to do research on his/her team, so that they're prepared to make their predictions. Posters can draft, others can come in and criticize/agree with their picks, and anticipate who the later guys (Me, molestomp, Marvin, Kahran, etc.) will take.... I'll put an Official Thread up for it tomorrow, so that other posters can get in on it.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted January 30, 2003 So will I pick both Patriots picks, or will Bps pick the one from Buffalo for me? Just clarifying.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted January 30, 2003 Is this going to be strictly 1st round or will we go to the 2nd round as well?
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted January 30, 2003 So will I pick both Patriots picks, or will Bps pick the one from Buffalo for me? Just clarifying. Bryan never gave me an answer on whether he wanted to do NE's 2nd pick or not (after losing the BUF pick) , but I'll assume he did. If you can get a hold of Bryan, and he says no, then you may have both picks. Is this going to be strictly 1st round or will we go to the 2nd round as well? Just first round, unless demands for a second round arise.
