Guest FeArHaVoC Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 A new policy in WWE is that wrestlers are now supposed to be in character at all times. This is another extension of recent management belief that the exposing of the business is hurting WWE. No word yet on how WWE wrestlers are supposed to act on Confidential, where they have been breaking character to comment on a variety of subjects. credit: Wrestling Observer Newsletter/411Wrestling
Guest DerangedHermit Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 "Yeah-uh, Vince. Damn-uh Tough Enough and Confidential-uh! I'll-uh borrow-uh from Bill-uh Watts!"
Guest Redhawk Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 So does that mean... If I go up to Nathan Jones in a restaurant he's just gonna flip the fuck out and kill me? Bill DeMott must walk around really slowly and look mean and surly the whole time? Kane can't take off the mask or wear regular clothes? Victoria and Stevie Richards can't date other people? Molly Holly can't have sex? RVD has to act unfazed at all times, even if someone runs into his car or steals his weed? Jericho and Christian have to regularly buy Ass Cream? Scott Steiner has to continue wearing sunglasses indoors? John Cena has to rhyme everything he says all day? Jerry Lawler has to dress like an idiot every day? Triple H will never lose in anything, not even the lottery?
Guest The Electrifyer Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 "If I go up to Nathan Jones in a restaurant he's just gonna flip the fuck out and kill me?" When I was a kid and I thought wrestling was real, I'd be scared of stuff like that actually happening to me.
Guest crandamaniac Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Bill DeMott must walk around really slowly and look mean and surly the whole time? I'd be really afraid if you was under 6 Feet and 200 lbs. And that's just a stupid idea because everybody and there momma knows that wrestling is "fake". Heck, Vince McMahon has even said so thousands of times. But they have to realize that a good storyline is what's going to make people suspend their disbelief, not throwing a blanket over it and telling people to ignore it, like they seem to be doing right now.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 This is just going to make wrestling more of a joke than it already is. And I'm pretty sure wrestlers aren't gonna be too happy to act like assholes when people say hi to them in the street. This is ridiculous.
Guest Redhawk Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I still remember when Zeus went on The Arsenio Hall Show and stayed in character. He wore his wrestling attire and didn't say any words. he just grunted and did the "make one pec bounce" thing. They even had Arsenio running around the stage in fear of him.
Guest Repo Man jr Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I can't wait for the next wwe wrestler interview on The LAW! Does this mean Lance Storm has to stop answering people on his web site? Make his commentary kayfabe? This is stoopid!!!
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 From 1wrestling.com "Reports say that the WWE has now banned it's workers from ascending the top turnbuckle to perform "high-flying" moves. Workers may still perform moves off the second turnbuckle, such as double axehandles or elbow drops." Can throwing people over the top rope be far behind?
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Shut up! it was a good joke The point is, the're reaching Wattsian, WCW levels of stupidity here. This is one of the few companies in the world that goes out of it's way to alienate it's customers.
Mecha Mummy Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 ... I don't believe it. Vince McMahon has finally snapped and he thinks he's Bill Watts and is in early 90's WCW. I can't believe they're THIS stupid. Well, WWE's loss might be NWA-TNA's gain.
Guest CanadianChick Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 ... I don't believe it. Vince McMahon has finally snapped and he thinks he's Bill Watts and is in early 90's WCW. Well, this means that Billy Kidman's push is DEAD since the only thing interesting about him is the SSP. Oh, and RVD no longer has a finisher. I can't believe they're THIS stupid. Well, WWE's loss might be NWA-TNA's gain. The top rope thing was a joke dude.
Mecha Mummy Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Heh, sorry. I don't go to 1wrestling, too many pop-ups.
Guest Si82 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 We're heading back to 80's aren't we. I mean look at it. Big useless lugs get major pushes...the four horsemen are revived (again!) and now kayfabe is to be restored. I tell ya this is Triple H's fault. Damn you Hunter.
Guest CanadianChick Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Don't worry about it...anyways, about this kayfabe thing. I can see to a certain extent, but when a fan comes up to, say The Big Show, who is known to be a nice guy in real life, will TBS just be his character and brag how he's a monster?
Guest CanadianChick Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I was just wondering something...how would Goldust act in public?
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I think now Goldust may just have to stop going out in public period.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 WWE is so dumb. These things are not the cause of their problems. This isn't going to do anything, but distance themselves from more people. They don't have a clue.
Guest LaParkaMarka Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 This is just silly. I mean, if someone sees an interview on Entertainment Tonight with Matthew Perry or Jennifer Aniston and they don't act like their characters on Friends, they aren't going to have the sudden insight that the show is fake and stop watching it. That kind of thinking is just absurd.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Molly Holly can't have sex? Didn't Molly say she was still a virgin?
Yuna_Firerose Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Victoria and Stevie Richards can't date other people? That shouldn't be too hard for Stevie, but what about Victoria? I mean, she is married, after all. And how can she stay in the psycho mode all day, every day?
Guest deadbeater Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 If Ivan Koloff acted 'in character' at all times, he would most likely not have saved that girl in an accident some twenty years ago. Another thing, some heels IRL are among the nicest persons to be around. Do they really want some people to behave like their heel characters out in the streets? Nathan Jones, for example?
Guest Creepy Crawl Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Does this mean Edge will have to go around smiling like a monkey eating shit all the time . ?
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Molly Holly can't have sex? Didn't Molly say she was still a virgin? Yeah, it's another case of those "exaggerated version of yourself" gimmicks. Although now it will be much easier to turn down advances now.
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Does this mean Edge will have to go around smiling like a monkey eating shit all the time . ? From what I read out of Mick Foley's book, sounds like he wouldn't have to act a damn bit different. Does this apply to both rosters, or just Raw, because HHH isn't as over as he thinks he should be?
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 This is just silly. I mean, if someone sees an interview on Entertainment Tonight with Matthew Perry or Jennifer Aniston and they don't act like their characters on Friends, they aren't going to have the sudden insight that the show is fake and stop watching it. That kind of thinking is just absurd. That's WWE Logic. That's what the Office-uh blames for crowd apathy for him.
Yuna_Firerose Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I swear the WWE uses the net as their own playing ground.
Guest papacita Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I dunno whether or not this is true, but the business has already been exposed to the point where kayfabe wouldn't work anyway. Although it would make it a little easier to enjoy WWE shows when they're not telling you "it's fake" every 5 minutes.
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Who wouldn't need to change at all do to essentially being themselves on camera? Undertaker: Bitter asshole veteran who gives shit to rookies. Bradshaw: Same as the above, only he never has and never will be successful. Triple H: Egotistical asshole who thinks he's Ric Flair. Jeff Hardy: A very bizaare, disturbed young man. RVD: A stoner dude. Edge: As said above, he is playing himself. Any others?
