Guest Vern Gagne Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Were about half way through the season MVP-Tim Duncan. Duncan is the Spurs. 2.Kidd, 3.Garnett, 4.McGrady, 5.Wallace ROY-Amare Stoudamire.Stats equal to Ming, seems to be improving more than Yao. 2.Yao, 3.Butler, 4.Gooden, 5.Hillerio COY-Rick Carlisle. Detroit does not have much talent. 2.Popovich, 3.Johnson, 4. Sloan, 5.Thomas 6th Man-Al Harrington? Don't know if he's Indiana's 6th man, but he averages 14 points a game. Improved-Ricky Davis. A no brainer...up from 11 ppg to around 22 ppg.
Guest Bricks Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 MVP: Chris Webber. Honestly, he seems to have gone triple double crazy as of late. ROY: Amare Stoudamire. Yao seems to have hit the rookie wall just a bit. Amare might hit it too though. 6th: Corliss Williamson. I'll be honest, I don't know, so I just put last year's winner. Improved: Ricky Davis. He's just stepped it up big time this year. Coach: Isaiah Thomas. They went from 8 seed last year to the East's best team this year.
Guest alfdogg Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I was actually going to post this topic today, too. MVP: Tim Duncan (Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett) Rookie: Yao Ming (Amare Stoudamire, Dajuan Wagner) 6th man: Al Harrington Defensive: Ron Artest (Ben Wallace, Tim Duncan) Most Improved: Richard Jefferson (Ricky Davis, Earl Boykins) Coach: Isiah Thomas (Don Nelson, Rick Carlisle)
EL DANDY~! Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 How about my Warriors for biggest surprise in the league? Only FOUR games out of a playoff spot, and on top of that, they are one win away from EQAULLING their total from last year. Pretty good I'd say...
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 MVP: 1. Jason Kidd (Got the SHAFT last year) 2. Tim Duncan 3. Tracy McGrady 4. Kevin Garnett 5. Chris Webber ROY: 1. Amare Stoudamire 2. Yao Ming 3. Nene Hillario 4. Dejuan Wagner 5. Caron Butler 6th Man: 1. Al Harrington Most Improved: 1. Ricky Davis 2. Richard Jefferson 3. Earl Boykins 4. Stephon Marbury (Attitude-Wise) Coach: 1. Rick Carlisle 2. Isiah Thomas 3. Don Nelson 4. Rudy T Extra - Biggest Let-Down: 1. Darius Miles
Guest starvenger Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 MVP: Gotta go with Duncan. Rookie: Yao Ming. Coach: Don Nelson. I also think that Lenny Wilkens deserves some sort of special award for lasting this long in Toronto despite being given the "vote of confidence" by the GM, since traditionally this means that you're gonna be fired very soon...
Guest cartman Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 MVP: Duncan ROY: Ming 6th: Harrington Defensive: Wallace Coach: Obrien Improved: Davis Biggest Suprise Team: Pacers Biggest Dissappointment Team: Lakers Biggest Asshole: Artest Most Overrated: Carter Most Underrated: Pierce/Walker Team with good record that will suck in playoffs: Utah Favorites to win the NBA title as of right now: Dallas
Guest starvenger Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 ROY: Ming Just wanted to point this out, but his surname is Yao...
Guest The Electrifyer Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 MVP: Duncun Rookie of The Year: Ming Coah of The Year: Don Nelson Most Improved: Ricky Davis Sixth Man: Al Harrington
Guest Vern Gagne Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Most Overrated: Carter If everyone thinks you're overrated are you still overrated? Forgot about Defensive POY-Ben Wallace. Who shows rebounding, and blocking shots is all about effort.
Guest bravesfan Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Can anyone give me a quick description of what "Coach of the Year" really means? IMO, I believed that it best described the coach that took a decent team and made them into a quality unit. An example would be Carlisle with the Pistons. As much as I consider Isiah Thomas and Don Nelson to be top-quality coaches, how much of the team's success can be directly attributed to them? In a lesser criticism, Thomas has molded together a team of young'ns and veterans and is probably 2nd in voting for COTY in my mind (behind Carlisle). The only discredit is the sheer amount of talent he DOES have, with all-star potential at each position, with a bench 2 & 3 players deep. But what has Nelson proven? He STILL hasn't sold a great defensive scheme there yet, despite having three 7-footers and two all-star point guards. Their over-passing and hyper fast-break schemes are only working to a degree.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Good Question. You're definition about sums it up IMO. However if a team is so good, and wins 70 games like the Bulls did, than I think that Coach should win the award.
Guest Redhawk Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Coach of the Year and MVP are two of the most confusing awards out there. COY usually goes to, as said earlier, a guy who takes a team no one thought would be that good and makes them good. I think that's unfair because coaches with perennial contenders never win. And I think MVP should be more like Most Outstanding Player, because as it is now it punishes guys who have talent around them.
Guest Snappy Nappy Dugout Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Um, I'm Am the only person that hates Duncan and thinks he's overrated?
Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Um, I'm Am the only person that hates Duncan and thiks he's overrated? Yes.

Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Um, I'm Am the only person that hates Duncan and thiks he's overrated? No, your not. Why?
Guest Lethargic Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Duncan is entirely too soft to be as good as they want to make us think he is. He needs to find a killer instinct and start ripping some hearts out. If he doesn't the Spurs will never go anywhere in the playoffs.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 The Spurs won't go anywhere in the playoffs unless they get another all-star caliber player.
Guest Crazy Dan Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 MVP: (tie) Webber and Kidd (I need to wiat till the season is over to determine, so I will split the vote by confrence. Coach: Carlisle (gets the most out of the talent he has) Rookie: Amare (with Yao a close second) Most improved: Ricky Davis 6th man: Bobby Jackson (when he returns from his broken hand, he will make the Kings that much more tougher to beat) Most pleasant surprise: The fact that my Warriors have beaten the the Lakers two games to one Biggest Headcase(s): Rasheed and Artest Biggest Moron: Shaq, for making stupid comment after stupid comment : "The Sacramento queens", the comments about Doug Christie's wife, about Yao. Face it Shaq, you are not funny. Grow up, last I checked, you are about 31/32 years old, start acting like one, and leave the comedy to the stand-ups.
