Duncan is the Spurs. 2.Kidd, 3.Garnett, 4.McGrady, 5.Wallace ROY-Amare Stoudamire.Stats equal to Ming, seems to be improving more than Yao. 2.Yao, 3.Butler, 4.Gooden, 5.Hillerio COY-Rick Carlisle. Detroit does not have much talent. 2.Popovich, 3.Johnson, 4. Sloan, 5.Thomas 6th Man-Al Harrington? Don't know if he's Indiana's 6th man, but he averages 14 points a game. Improved-Ricky Davis. Yao seems to have hit the rookie wall just a bit. Amare might hit it too though. 6th: Corliss Williamson. I'll be honest, I don't know, so I just put last year's winner. Improved: Ricky Davis. I also think that Lenny Wilkens deserves some sort of special award for lasting this long in Toronto despite being given the "vote of confidence" by the GM, since traditionally this means that you're gonna be fired very soon... IMO, I believed that it best described the coach that took a decent team and made them into a quality unit. An example would be Carlisle with the Pistons. As much as I consider Isiah Thomas and Don Nelson to be top-quality coaches, how much of the team's success can be directly attributed to them? In a lesser criticism, Thomas has molded together a team of young'ns and veterans and is probably 2nd in voting for COTY in my mind (behind Carlisle). The only discredit is the sheer amount of talent he DOES have, with all-star potential at each position, with a bench 2 & 3 players deep. But what has Nelson proven? He STILL hasn't sold a great defensive scheme there yet, despite having three 7-footers and two all-star point guards. Their over-passing and hyper fast-break schemes are only working to a degree. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Coach of the Year and MVP are two of the most confusing awards out there. COY usually goes to, as said earlier, a guy who takes a team no one thought would be that good and makes them good. I think that's unfair because coaches with perennial contenders never win. Face it Shaq, you are not funny. Grow up, last I checked, you are about 31/32 years old, start acting like one, and leave the comedy to the stand-ups.
