Guest Goodear Report post Posted January 31, 2003 What a dip. Half of the 'reasons' are old moments from 10 or more years ago that most people never saw live. Ohhh Babe Ruth POINTS! Bukner MESSES UP! Mayes CATCHES! These are just moments that happened that the history of SuperBowl can match just as well. Another third is a bunch of stupid crap like the first pitch and getting to get so EXCITED by the box score. Whoooo! NUMBERS! YAY! And the best is his reason that the baseball games are shorter. Okay, yeah, they are shorter... they're also starting at 9 o'clock and wrapping up around one in the freaking morning when no one wants to watch them. Good call.... ass. I personally don't like baseball so I found his article and his silly 'reasons' to be a load of crap. So the World Series is played out over a week, wow, sorry that football doesn't play their championship in a series of 7 games. Going by this logic, would that make the Stanley Cup finals and the NBA Finals better than the Super Bowl?

Guest alkeiper Report post Posted January 31, 2003 These are just moments that happened that the history of SuperBowl can match just as well. Go up to your average person on the street and see if they can recall moments from past super bowls. The point is, the World Series creates more of these. So the World Series is played out over a week, wow, sorry that football doesn't play their championship in a series of 7 games. There's nothing that compares to a game 7. Many times in football, you have two uneven teams, and the super bowl is a rout. In baseball, the two teams have each gone 3-3 over six games. You don't know who's better. If a person perfers watching baseball over any sport, obviously there are more sporting moments in the World Series. Its the same with football, hockey, soccer, etc. etc...Each sport has their moments, and each fan chooses their sport to watch. Second statement: In a 7 game series, you can fuck up one or two early games, and still win the series, unlike the superbowl, you play for perfection, as you want to win. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted January 31, 2003 I'm sure if we all put our heads together, we could come up w/ 37 reasons why the Super Bowl is better (and I like both events, btw) Reason I: Swann's two unforgettable catches in X...

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Did Franco Harris' "Immaculate Reception" happen during the SuperBowl? If not, I'd go with Joe Nameth backing up his boasts, and Joe Montana's comeback drive against the Bengals.
Guest Powerplay Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Go up to your average person on the street and see if they can recall moments from past super bowls. The point is, the World Series creates more of these. That's bullshit. I remember far more about the last couple Super Bowls than I ever knew about the World Series. This is just biased crap. There's nothing that compares to a game 7. Many times in football, you have two uneven teams, and the super bowl is a rout. In baseball, the two teams have each gone 3-3 over six games. You don't know who's better. Then you have series that are total routs as well. With the Super Bowl, underdogs get a shot. The NE Patroits are a great example. All you have to do is win THIS GAME. Just the same feeling as a game 7.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Go up to your average person on the street and see if they can recall moments from past super bowls. The point is, the World Series creates more of these. The World Series also has more opportunities to create them. How many plays are run in a football game, between both teams? 125? If you consider each pitch in baseball to be a potential play (since each batter/pitcher exchange could make something exciting happen), there are 350 "plays" in every baseball game. Even in a four-game series, that's still ten times as many plays as a football game would see. I like both events, and I always watch them closely and eagerly. But since I've come to prefer football to baseball over the last few years, I have to say I prefer the Super Bowl. Reason III: Joe Willie Namath (bastard!) PS: Alkeiper's not an ass, people. He happens to post some good stuff in this forum, and while I don't always agree with what he says, he says it better than most. Don't pin the blame on him because you disagreed with an article that he didn't write.
Guest Powerplay Report post Posted January 31, 2003 And for naming moments, how bout this: The Titan's "1 Yard Too Short Drive". One of the saddest moments I could think of in football, just because he was that close.

Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Did Franco Harris' "Immaculate Reception" happen during the SuperBowl? If not, I'd go with Joe Nameth backing up his boasts, and Joe Montana's comeback drive against the Bengals. No, the Immaculate Reception was between the Raiders and the Steelers, 2 AFC teams. I believe it was the AFC divisional or Championship game.

Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted January 31, 2003 The Immaculate Conception occured on a Monday Night Football game. The Immaculate Conception was Mary getting pregnant. The Immaculate Reception was Franco Harris catching the ball. And I'm not too sure it was on Monday Night Football being that it was a playoff game.

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Yep, and the Steelers went on to lose to the Dolphins in the Conf. Championship, which brings me to another reason (IX)... Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Good call.... ass. So someone's an ass because he has different opinion than you? AK Why do you think the World Series is better. I agree with you, but instead of posting what someone else thinks, what are your reasons?
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Well, I can't say that the World Series is better, but here's why I prefer it..... 1. It's baseball, my favorite sport. I'm familiar with it, I understand it. 2. It's the end of a long journey. Football is a sprint. Baseball is an epic novel, unfolding in peaks and valleys over six months. It pulls you in, and consumes you. 3. This doesn't really count for the World Series, but its a million times easier to see professional baseball. Sixty times a year I can drive 30 miles and get box seats for the Red Barons for under $10. And you can watch baseball on tv six days a week for six months. For the junkie fan, you can't beat baseball for shear volume. 4. There's more backstory to it. The parity in football means there's no longer a dominant team anymore. In baseball, you have the Yankees. Look at wrestling for an example. You have to build up a dominant heel. When teams stick around, people care about them more. 5. NSync is not forced upon me at halftime. 6. The playoff system is better. In baseball, the better team over the course of a year has a better chance of prevailing in the playoffs. In football, its a crap shoot, and who knows if the Super Bowl champ is really the best? There's a few. I could probably think of more, but that's what I've got at the moment. As for the Immaculate "Reception", my apologies, it was a playoff game. Interestingly, the phrase "Franco's Immaculate Reception" is actually copywrited by Franco Harris. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Thanks AK. You can go see the Twins for $8.00. Parking, and concessions make it more expensive. But overall it's not that bad. A bonus is the team is good, unlike the Vikings.
Guest Powerplay Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Sorry for coming off a little strong if I did at first, but I just find many of the reasons bullshit. I bear no ill will towards Al here. Just sayin' that now, okay? But I'd like to dispute a few points of his own list here: 3) That's kinda biased. You can just as easily go to a High School Football game or a college football game. There are tons around. 4) There is still backstory to football teams. Just because there aren't consistantly dominant teams doesn't mean there isnt' a story to it. You watch the 2001-2002 season with Tom Brady and the Patroits, there is a story right there. 5) Change the channel . It's not that hard. 6) I agree and disagree. I like how it rewards a better team, but sometimes I like to see how far an underdog can really make it. The Randomness makes it so that you really want to see every game, because it could be your team's last. Meanwhile you can write off most teams in Baseball as not having a chance. This is just my personal opinion, though.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted February 1, 2003 One reason that I feel the Super Bowl is better than the World Series: People like my mom, and sister, and girlfriend, watch the Super Bowl, and can tell me who played or what happened. But if I ask them about the World Series, they MIGHT know it's two baseball teams but otherwise don't care. My point: people who don't care about sports care about the Super Bowl. They don't about the World Series.
