Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 As listed in the USAToday today, the premiere video for Johnny Cash's new single Hurt (written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails) will debut tonight at 8 p.m. eastern on both Vh-1 and CMT at the same time. The video features recent footage of Cash, spliced with home video footage of himself from the fifties and sixties. The song appears on Cash's new Grammy nominated album, The Man Comes Around. It will be replayed again at midnight.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Just watched the video. Very moving and powerful stuff. Cash looks like the angel of death himself, very haunting. He also gives "Hurt" a very intriguing interpretation which should be of interest to Nine Inch Nails fans. Catch the replay at midnight.
Guest Eyeball Kid Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I actually caught that on M2 the other day. Good video, but man, is Cash looking haggard.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I'm a huge Cash-mark, so I watched it tonight ... it's so sad to see him looking so old and broken down but was so cool to see the oldschool footage of him. And I thought the song sounded awesome with him singing, and I'm not a NIN fan normally. All in all, MTV will drop the ball yet again by giving this no attention, and instead play 23 hours of "reality tv" a day instead.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Whoa, I didn't know he covered that. Anyone heard Cash's cover of U2's One?
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Hurt is on Cash's new album The Man Comes Around. He also does a cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. One was on American Three: Solitary Man, which I missed picking up.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 He covers Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage," too. Who'd have thought that?
B. Brian Brunzell Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 That was one of the most powerful videos I have ever watched. It shows us how frail, yet still great Cash is. His voice may be overrun with age, and he may sound like he's on death's door, but he still brings it with his distinctive bass.
Guest Eyeball Kid Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 The "Personal Jesus" cover has a sexy little swagger to it, but "Hurt" loses points because he altered the "crown of shit" line.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 How 'bout that. I had no idea he did all these covers. Rusty Cage sounds especially intriguing.
