The worst gimmick match, of all time?

Recommended Posts

Guest RedJed

I've seen alot of really bad gimmick death matches in Big Japan, stuff like a Pirahna match where you have to throw a guy in a small tank of fish with apparent pirahnas in it. They've done the same thing with alligators and scorpions too.

Onita had an island match with Singh as well I think, and if I remember right it was downright horrible. It was pouring rain and they were slipping all over the place.

Worst that takes the cake for me was the bungee match they had in the GWF. They had two jobronis fighting in the small cages that people jump from to bungee. I swear the thing was about arm length on each side at best, they didn't even move at all, just did a few punches and kicks and one of the guys fell off. It was THE worst!

There's only been one decent scaffold match I know of, that being High Incident. And it was only decent because they weren't on the scaffold for most of the match.

I have only seen one Lights Out (I'm making up the name) match, on one of the FMW tapes, and it was terrible. Mr. Pogo vs. Matsunaga I think. Wrestling in the dark. It made for a fairly cool visual when Pogo set Matsunaga on fire to end the match, but it went on for a while, and you couldn't see shit. And there was a glow in the dark scythe. That's like something you'd see on the Adam West Batman show.

Judy Bagwell on a Pol...actually, wasn't it Judy Bagwell on a forklift Match. Say what you will about David Arquette, but at least you could understand there was a reason behind it (however, it was a sucky idea to say the least)...publicity. How in the hell can you explain Judy Bagwell as a freaking WCW Tag Team Champion??? Hell, at least she was a better worker than her son...

Also, the 'Buried Alive' gimmick always bothered me. Undertaker had to be in it each time, like Kane and the Inferno Match, and burying someone alive? Obviously they got dug up afterwards, but they never really got buried apart from UT at the original Buried Alive. The matches are usually half decent, but it just seems a crappy gimmick.

This may only be "worst" in the sense that it was just a dumb idea, as the match itself wasn't all that bad.

A local indy fed had like, a Scottish Barfight Match. One of the guys in the match plays a Scot, so it makes sense. Here's the funny thing though - They had a table in the ring, chairs, glasses, and a bottle of whiskey.

Yes, before the match started, they played shots. They took about 6-7 shots, and THEN they had a match.

In theory, it's a neat idea, but in practice, you have two guys who just took about 7 shots of whiskey trying to wrestle. I swear, one of them looked like he was gonna throw up.

How could anybody forget the Human Torch Match with Sting and Vampiro, where the stuntman took the bump off the jumbo tron(whatever they called it) and the GraveYard Match with Vampiro and the Demon?

Ugh. I remembered that match. Sting vanished for a week or two after the Human Torch match, then came back wearing a mask. A week or two later, Sting unmasked and...LOOKED EXACTLY THE SAME!!! Either he can heal very quickly or had plastic surgery in those two weeks although I don't see either as being logical.

What about Havoc 92 and the Coal Miner's Glove match? I mean, holy fucking shit was it terrible and I swore to never watch that show ever again.

Also, I can't really argue with some of the choices made. I even remember the scaffold match at GAB 91... poor "Stunning" Steve and Bobby Eaton, they never should have been thrown up there like that.

Inferno Match...cause there's only one rule; Kane loses.

You can tell who's going to lose right away by who's wearing the protective clothes. And I hate how JR will bust something out like "The Inferno Match is Kane's specialty"...even though he's winless in them. Does the same with Taker and a casket match, even thought he's lost a few/

Nobody ever wins their own gimmick match. The Hardys always seem to lose in Ladder matches, Mick Foley never won a Hell in a Cell, and of course you mentioned Kane.
