Guest notJames Report post Posted February 10, 2003 (Warning: this rant is being written rather hastily and without regard for knowing 100.0% of the details, not to mention with enough venom and bile to choke a small caribou. If this needs to get bumped to No Holds Barred, so be it. I just need to get this off my chest before I shoot my TV. So... Vince Carter relents after countless needling and hassling from both the NBA and the media and gives up his All-Star starting spot on the East squad for his HHHighness, Michael Jordan. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this? It's obvious who's behind all this: Everyone. Commissioner David Stern is always harping on getting the NBA ratings, which have been sliding for a long time. He figures Jordan, although he's years past his prime, is the only one who can get non-hardcore basketball fans to watch the All-Star Game. Yes, his name is now synonymous with basketball around the world, even though he's hardly in All-Star form, but he should have a spot anyway, because MJ=basketball ratings. Yep, and all those televised Washington Wizard games are real exhibitions of quality basketball. Uh huh. (Oh, and I could go on and on about how the league is suffering from misplaced priorities and how they can't make any more stars because the game has denigrated so much from it's glory years of actual team play, and because the pre-schoolers they keep jump-starting into the league can't handle the transition, but I'll save that for another time...) Isiah Thomas, coach of the Eastern All-Stars, gets to pick the 7 bench players after the starting five is voted in. How amusing that he picks Jordan above players who are younger, stronger, flashier, and better able to show the world what the All-Star game is all about... showmanship, not sportsmanship. You may calll NJ bias on me, but I would much rather have seen Kenyon Martin in that spot than Jordan. Or about 3 or 4 other uys who made it on the Eastern team. Brad Miller? Who the fuck is that? Way to be impartial, Mr. Coach of the Indiana Pacers. Anyway, Thomas (who sucked as an announcer for NBC, by the way), had the audacity to say this about the situation: "Michael Jordan should never come off the bench in an All-Star game." Fuck you, isiah Thomas. How come Joe Dumars ended up with all the class? If the fans wanted Jordan to start, he woul have been voted in. Same with Shaq. Yao Ming hasn't won 3 NBA championships. I don't see Coach Adelman calling for Yao's professional and public castration The sports analysts, journalists, commentators, etc., continually bring up the fact that Vince-sanity only played 10 games this season, and that he shouldn't be allowed to be on the team, let alone start. Um, is there a rule governing eligibility for the All-Star game? No. That should be that. They also bring up how it's MJ's last All-Star game. Besides the one when he first retired. in after the Bulls' first three-peat. Oh yeah, and the one when he retired again after the Bulls' second three-peat. Yeah, MJ, cry me a river. Oh, and Sir Charles, you get a fuck you too for your ridiculous comments. TV commentators should not be so egregiously biased toward their golfing buddie. In fact, you get 100 fuck yous for every extra pound you put on because you couldn't make it on the court past your prime. And don't tell me the system doesn't work. The fans want to see Carter, and that's why they voted for him. TNT has gone all out with their All-Jordan, All the Time lovefest, what with the hour-long retrospective last night, the hype of this year's All-Star festivities being Jordan's last (ha!), and their gaudy halftime tribute with Mariah Carey, all in the hopes of getting people to watch. Ugh. How much televised fellatio can one person stand before they realize that Jordan, although the greatest of all time, can not hang with the rest of the All-Stars and doesn't deserve to be there? Didn't this guy already have his 15 hours of fame and his name up in the heavens and his face on all the magazine covers? Do we really need any more of this? Yes, he was great. Now read the next to last word in that last sentence. it's pretty important... Oh, I almsot forgot: the man himself, almighty Jordan. You realize the sport has passed you by already, yet you cling to it like a junkie and his first spoon. You aren't up to speed, you use your money and power to buy your way onto a 3rd rate team, undermining the entire integrity of the locker-room and the relationship between management/owner and player, and then you wonder why the Wizards are going nowhere except the Lottery. If you are such an icon and a have a real passion for this sport, you would have turned down all the offers and told the league to concentrate ont he future of the league by highlighting players who will still be here 5 years down the road. Yeah, you know, the guys you would have seen if you'd had the dignity to show up for Friday's media session. Oh I forogt... they've already got that covered. Ad nauseum. (emphasis on the nauseum part) Carter was put in a no-win situation, where his only out would have been for Jordan to offer his full support. He declined Tracy McGrady's offer to give up his spot, as well as Allen Iverson's public display of affection. Why didn't he decline when the league had Carter's hands tied? Is it because Carter has often been hailed as the next Jordan? Meow. (Oh yeah, fuck you too, Iverson, you glory-hound has-been. When Sprewell gave up his spot last year to Jordan -- not just his spot on the rotation, but his entire spot on the All-Star team, he did it without having to practically call a press conference first. He did it without anyone knowing except himself and Jordan, with class and dignity befitting someone who, although is not a saint, showed that he was a real fan of this sport. Well, you got your wish; let's see just how many times you 'll pass him the ball.) The stench of politics surrounding this year's All-Star weekend makes me long for Triple H's shenanigans on RAW, and it's unfair to allow this travesty to pass without serious scrutiny at all the personnel involved. But the person who really should be held accountable is Vince Carter himself. Caught between doing what he knew was right, and braving the boos of the fans in attendance in Atlanta (not to mention the scorn of players, sports writers, etc., he took the easy way out. And he still got a smattering of Bronx cheers. Tough break, kid. Too bad you forgot that pridein your accoumplishments only counts if your name is Michael Jordan. (By the way, last I checked, Jordan was 2 for 10 from the field, and missed an open dunk with practically no one around them. I wonder if K-Mart would have missed that?) Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted February 10, 2003 Put McGrady's name where Iverson's is. Iverson did call Jordan one on one a week before McGrady did his deal in front of the world and it was until a few days after McGrady that anyone even found out about Iverson. I do think that he should have gotten a reserve spot, I don't think the snubs were better enough than Jordan that they should have kept him from going out an all star. There is something to be said for sending him out on top. On the other hand I do feel bad for Carter. He was right when he said that if the fans wanted Jordan to start they would have voted for him to start. Now I don't think Carter deserves to be in the game (there should be a minimum games played qualification) but under the current system he rightfully got that spot and shouldnt have been underfire from everyone but the fans. Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted February 10, 2003 Stern is a carny mother fucker just like McMahon. The league's gone to shit with all these iced-out, tattooed brats, and the NBA's final admission of how bad things have gotten is assimilating all the rule changes that we've been using in Europe for decades. What happened to all that shit about the NBA game being better than the European game? Fuck the NBA. And fuck Michael Jordan. The real Michael Jordan died with the sixth ring; the day he put on a Wizards jersey, he was no longer "MJ", just some guy whose name happened to be "Michael Jordan". Fuck him for pissing all over his legacy and shitting on the fans who wanted him to go out on top. Poor baby, missed playing the game - hey buddy, you miss playing so much, put a fucking hoop up in the yard like everyone else and let me remember how great you used to be. Fuck Triple H too. Guest notJames Report post Posted February 10, 2003 But he did go out on top... twice. He's the one that decided that he was bigger than the sport of basketball once he got all those pretty rings on his fingers. He's the one that opted for baseball and golf and gambling and his financial pursuits instead of giving the fans and the league any more of his precious time and skills. Now he's realized that coming back yet again was a huge mistake, and by announcing his retirement, he still gets to hold his head up high and receive all the laurels of a dying war hero, while a guy like Patrick Ewing, who never won a championship yet still gave his all for 15+ seasons, doesn't get so much as a thank you card from the league because hs love of the game exceeded his body's inability to stop aging. All-in-all, if they had to give Jordan a last goodbye, it shouldn't have been at the expense of someone like Vince Carter, whether Jordan is really at fault or not. Oh, and my bad about getting Iverson and McGrady mixed up. I guess al my biases are showing (pro-Knicks and Nets, anti-Jordan and Iverson. Don't get me started on the Lakers... Oh, and judging from Jordan's current performance, I guess the MVP voting is all but a formality. How soon before they rename the league the National Jordan Association of Basketball-like Endeavors? Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted February 10, 2003 It really seems odd to see someone like Ben Wallace out there who has no niche in a game like this, actually out there setting picks and boxing out. It is good to see actual game situations in this game just weird.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 10, 2003 The Afro got him in. Simple as that... So we know MJ get the Blwojob Award of the night but in reality who has been the REAL MVP? Shaq? Kobe? MJ? McGrady? Nowitzki? Garnett? I'll tag T-Mac. Early, I thought Vinsanity would take it just to shove it to the Media's bullshit criticism.

He hasn't played much because they WANT to give Jordan the MVP and I'm pretty sure that Isiah still has a grudge against Toronto... btw I can't believe how much of a bj Albert is giving to Jordan.
