Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 This is a question to all the Smarks in this forum, I'm going to give you a list of 6 wrestlers. My question is if any of these 6 wrestlers was given the Brock push would they be as successful/ more successful / least successful than good old Brocky? I will give you these wrestlers pros and cons to help you decide if any of these guys are main event material. The 6 wrestlers are: Booker T: Pros-Charismatic 5 time WCW champion and a decent worker with good promo skills, over with the fans even though he's being used as a jobber to the stars..Cons:The fact that he is getting old and wants to retire is the only bad thing about him. Batista:Pros:Great look for wrestling Cons:he is greener than grass and still hasn't show any potential. RVD:Pros:Good athlete,ECW tv champ for 2 years, he elevated the Hardcore championship while he was the champion, super over when he entered the WWF and still over w/o getting a serious push.Cons:ok promo skills but not good enough for the WWE office, stiff wrestler. Benoit:Great worker, former WCW,IC,TV,USA,ECW tag,WCW TAGS,WWF TAG team champ i could go on and on. Cons:Bad on doing promos and "too small" according to the WWE staff. Eddy Guerrero:Pros:Great wrestler, great promo skills, and awesome entertainer.Cons:too small to main event. Orton:Great promo skills and has charisma and superstar good looks. Cons:Still very green at everything else and has been injured more times than he is been inside of the ring. Now lets see what you guys think who is a main eventer or who is a dud and give good reasons for your decision.
Guest TonyJaymzReloaded Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 Eddy and Benoit will e WWE champs, at least once eac. The rest...im not too sure. I think RVD isn't anytime soon, and Booker may get a one month "I beat Triple H once, now lose to him 3 times" run. Orton should be champ in a couple years, but he need to get his personality back first.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 Look...if you haven't noticed...RVD, Booker, Eddie, and Benoit have been stuck in the midcard for most of their run...and yet they are STILL over like Rover, INCLUDING the fact that RVD is the most over face on RAW, with Booker 2nd, and then Eddie being the cheating face and Benoit getting the standing ovation as a sign of respect. All I know is that Orton and Batista are young and they will too, someday, but Batista needs to prove himself as a guy with more than just four moves. Orton has the whiny heel shtick DOWN and I can see great things from him.
Guest Tim Cooke Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 Benoit: Over despite being mis used. I attribute Kurt Angle's recent growth as a worker to Benoit. Guerrero: Nah, will never be looked at as a heavyweight threat. Could be a "Legend" as a tag team but the WEEEE seems posed to make sure that doesn't happen either. RVD: Nah. Even when he was fresh, he would have been exposed on the mic and in the ring. Can't work with everyone (Benoit can). Orton: Who knows, don't care until he wrestles more. Bautista: Sucks in the ring. Booker: My pick would have been him for the big push. Good talker, good charisma, way over, good worker with a different enough style to make him stand out yet a style that EVERYONE can work with. Tim
cawthon777 Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 Anyone would be over if given the same push as Brock. Have someone tear the Hardy Boyz in half, walk through the KOTR, destroy Hulk Hogan, pin the Rock clean for the world title, and beat Taker clean in HIAC ... yeah, they'd be over.
Guest Brian Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 The Brock push, which was being a silent killer with a great mouthpiece would have worked well for Benoit especially.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 The Brock push, which was being a silent killer with a great mouthpiece would have worked well for Benoit especially. Let's see: Benoit: 5'11" 228...small guy who can get a good match out of anybody... Brock 6'4" 295...Hosstastic... WWVD? (What would Vince Do?)
Guest Brian Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 That wasn't the question though. Benoit in the exactsame position would have done just as well.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 All but Bastista have proven the ability to get over without the Brock push. Remember...Brock didn't even get over with the Brock push.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 True, it took him a while, but what I'm saying is that Benoit, who gets over on SHEER WORKRATE, nothing else, should have just as much as a shot as Lesnar does in the long run because of the way they are...
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I think the problem is that guys like Eddy and Benoit are always going to be over because of workrate and guys like RVD and Booker are always going to be over because of their unique charisma. Therefore the WWE doesn't put any special pushes or gimmicks on them and they'll always be ready for the small push up to beleivable main eventer.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Vince needs to realize that different wrestlers have different styles. Why does he want everyone to wrestle the same way? I don't understand it...
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Because it worked for him back in the 1980's. Then Austin forced a change in style...and what did he do...he made EVERYONE wrestle THAT way. Wonder why it burned out so fast?
EL DANDY~! Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 You get the feeling that Vince only watched three matches at the Royal Rumble: HHH/Steiner, Big Show/Brock, and the Rumble match, because he totally disregarded the standing ovation Benoit got...
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 There is NO WAY he watched the Steiner/HHH match...because Steiner is still getting pushed AND he booked a rematch even though HHH can't walk up the steps at this point.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 True, but then again, why is Benoit being pushed down the totem pole while Steiner gets pushed up? Oh yeah, cuz Steiner and HHH are big and strong and they draw so many people...
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 *flashes back to when he said this would happen the night of Rumble* Yeah, what are ya gonna do. HHH needs that job back.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Dood, I think the CROWD did the job, as in, they had to sit through that crap...
Guest Shaneomac Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I think that if any of those guys were given the Lesnar treatment they would at least be as over as Brock is now. But realistically, Batista is the only one who would have been given that push.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Don't forget that Brock was initially pushed as a heel. Out of those six, only Eddy and Benoit would be able to play the heel role like Brock did, and Eddy has too much of a mid-card stigma. So yeah, Benoit would have been able to get over with the Brock push, although having to have his manager cheat to help him beat RVD and the Hardyz would have perhaps been more damaging to him then it was to Brock. All of the others fall down due to being shite, unable to play both face and heel or all of the above. Come on, imagine RVD smashing in Taker's hand with a chair the way Brock did in the HiaC. Doesn't quite work, really. Booker's a pretty poor heel as well. Batista has shown that he is crap and unable to get the fans remotely interested and Orton would be unsuitable for such a role.
Guest Brian Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 But Benoit's a stronger wrestler who can compensate for the shortcomings in the booking, like heyman interfering. Hopefully.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 No doubt, but what I meant was that the only way Brock survived all that Heyman crap was through looking like a monster and being able to chuck people around like rag-dolls. As good as Benoit is, I still think his size would work against him if he had to go through the same shit. Although Shane used to cheat for him quite a lot, I suppose, and that never hurt Benoit while they were together. But then again, Benoit and Shane were written very much as an equal team, whereas Heyman was clearly very much in control of Brock for the majority of his heel run.
