Guest TheGame2705 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I mean how many people on here complained that X-Pac's only moves were kicks? All RVD did in his match was hit a shitty ass rolling thunder, Blow the 5 Star Frog Splash spot, and do nothing but SPIN KICKS. This is the guy that's supposed to be RAW world Champ and is so infinitely better than HHH? RVD IS better than HHH but then again, it ain't that hard to be better than a roided up cripple.
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 well given 2 minutes in an opening match that no one cares about all the while knowing you aint moving up on the card to make room for Batista. It could mess with your head and work ethic a bit. Rvd & Storm worked fine, IMO...was pretty decent....
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 How did he blow the 5 Star? It looked good to me. And Storm had control most of the match, which was relatively short. My problem with X-Pac isn't his kicks. It's the fact that he acts like a damn fool and doesn't put people over.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 A match like that makes you just wanna pop in your ECW: Guilty As Charged 99 tape...which had a pretty good Van Dam/Storm match. RVD had to go lower on the card to make room for upstarts like Jim Ross in the main event.
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Remember this is the WWF style we're talking about. It basically consists of: punch punch punch kick punch punch punch kick punch irish whip spinebuster punch punch cheating of some sort finisher
Guest Will Scarlet Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 How did he blow the 5 Star? He went to the wrong post at first, so he had to go to the other one so that Regal could interfere.
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 How did he blow the 5 Star? He went to the wrong post at first, so he had to go to the other one so that Regal could interfere. You know I didn't even notice that.
Guest JHawk Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I noticed it, but I had forgotten Regal was at ringside and just went to the further corner for effect.
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 It could easily be played off as he wanted a better angle on him. So one bad match and all of the sudden you think RVD is horrible?
Guest Human Fly Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I've thought over the last few weeks that RVD hasn't been looking too motivated. I don't blame him though. He's the most over face on the Raw roster and he's been thrown into the craptacular tag division while the ME continues to wallow in filth. RVD is just another example of someone getting over when it wasn't in company plans so they pulled the rug out from under him.
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I'm suprised any of the RAW roster that's not in Evolution is motivated at all nowdays. What is there to look forward to? Especially if the rumors of the HHH/Steph engagement are true.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 RVD is just another example of someone getting over when it wasn't in company plans so they pulled the rug out from under him. HHH: "I don't know what you're talking about-uhhh."
Guest Flyboy Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I've thought over the last few weeks that RVD hasn't been looking too motivated. If there wasn't anything to motivate me, I wouldn't work too hard either.
Guest TheGame2705 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I never thought RVD was good or bad. I disagreed with him being main event talent though. This just proved it to me. X-Pac puts over people now though.
Conspiracy_Victim Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 A match like that makes you just wanna pop in your ECW: Guilty As Charged 99 tape...which had a pretty good Van Dam/Storm match. Is that the match with Lance delivering the Erik Watts dropkick level chair shots? If so yeah the match was pretty good. Must have been fun to have Paul tell them before the match, "Go out there and just do your thing for 10-15 minutes or so and it'll be great!"
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 How do we know he's not main event material he's never been given a fair chance. His promos aren't great, but neither are Hogan's. His ring skills aren't outstanding, but neither are Hogan's. But like Hogan, RVD is really over with the fans and his moves pop the crowd no matter how silly they are. Stick him with a good manager like Bill Alphonso and get him motivated again and I could see him main eventing.
Guest jester Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 How did he blow the 5 Star? He went to the wrong post at first, so he had to go to the other one so that Regal could interfere. I spotted that too. I thought RVD did a few nice moves though. Rolling over Storm to get out of the corner was a nice touch. RVD still needs plenty of work...even the most pro-RVD people on this board admit to that.
Guest Human Fly Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 RVD still needs plenty of work...even the most pro-RVD people on this board admit to that. I don't think he does. His promos are decent. He also has two fully functional legs which is more than can be said for Steiner and HHH.

How do we know A-Train isn't upper midcarder material either, he hasn't been given a fair chance. You can't say Hogan's promos were bad. They had a certain electricity to them that "Yeah, it's cool..." promos don't have. Hogan also isn't the person you wanna compare RVD to if you wanna call him great either.
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Bring in Bill Alfonzo and turn him into a cocky heel who uses his "in your face" style to spite his opponents and the crowd, rathe than have him cheer for his spots. His cocky approach would be better as a heel, just watch his earlier ECW work before he turned face. It can work.

I'm pro-RVD, and sure he's not one of the most technicaly sound. But he works hard and can work a long entertaining match...plus he's over like a mofo! He should've gone over in Oct for the title...even if only for a month.
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 RVD needs work......hell any wrestler should continue improving. I have seen improvement out of RVD over his time in the WWE. Who knows it might have been Regal who was on the wrong side of the ring that caused that mess up.

I was using that analogy to show that he's in the relm of main eventing he just needs to have some backing and maybe a manager. I'm more entertained by RVD than I am Hogan. When RVD slips semi-shoot comments and funny little quotes he can have an entertaining promo.
Guest jester Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Don't get me wrong. I like RVD. I think he should be pushed as one of the top draws in the company and given major angles that involve no tag team matches whatsoever. And I also would never say that RVD was too lousy a worker or promo man when UT, HHH and Hogan have all been wearing a belt in the last year.
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 If they cannot get Bill Alfonso in the WWE for RVD then if all possible in the future have Heyman manage him and turn RVD heel.
Guest geniusMoment Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 No the Lance chair shots occured at Barely Legal. I liked that match, even though the rest of the internet seems to hate it for some reason.
Guest geniusMoment Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I am talking about the match at Barely Legal, not tonights match. Tonights match sucked. RVD has not been happy since he signed if you believe Dave Scherer. I know its 1bullshit but I tend to belive Dave when it comes to ECW guys.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Barely Legal's match was a Sabu match...spot, rest, spot, rest, and Lance can't hit a chair shot to save his life...
Guest RedJed Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 The one reason why I don't think Van Dam is overrated and deserved a world title run: charisma. He barely said a word when he came in and almost immediately was so over a world title run would have even been justified 6 months in, IMO. I say DESERVED a title run because its too late at this point, unless they build him up properly again as a legit threat. They overdid it with him chasing the belt and then completely ruined it with no hope with that match with HHH with HBK as ref. That was the nail in the coffin there, nobody is going to get behind a babyface who can't even win the match when another babyface is helping him out as ref. Much like a Hogan, Van Dam just has that charisma that can overtake any lack of mic skills. Actually I'd compare him more to Snuka.......he also could have went far in this business way back when if it wasn't for the rug being pulled from under him.
