Guest John Dub Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I would be very grateful if someone would reccomend me some songs by these fine artists. I've heard alot about them, but don't know where to start and some help would be appreciated. I saw Mos/Kwali on Chappelle's show and was blown away. Jurrasic 5 I've heard of for quite some time. Even some Del the Funky Homosapien reccomendations would be appreciated. Thank you.
Guest Sandman9000 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 For J5, the best song IMO off of "Power In Numbers" is Thin Line w/Nelly Furtado. As for the rest, can't really help.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I don't particularly listen to those artists, but I can recommend the song "Sharp Shooters" by Dead Prez, featuring Talib Kweli. Very good stuff.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 My favorite Kweli of the moment is "Where Do We Go" off his new album, Quality. Slickity slick. Get some El-P, too, while you're in the "totally sweet rap" mood. "Fantastic Damage," "Stepfather Factory," and "Constellation Funk" are highly recommended.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 A lot of stuff on "Power in Numbers" is sick...just get the whole album while you're at it...
Guest Eyeball Kid Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Look up Mos Def's Black On Both Sides. ANYTHING off that is gold.
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Jurass finish first, Concrete Schoolyard, Thin Line, What's Golden, Quality Control for J-5. (Who I met here at Cornell, whoo hoo) Ms. Fatbooty and Oh No for Mos Def. Can't help you with Talib Kweli, sorry.
Guest razazteca Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 the Soundbombing albums Mr Bob Dobalina by Del is one the funniest songs ever made.
Guest TheArchiteck Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Ok, I'll GLADLY will help with Mos Def. *looks through cd collections* Actually, I've been listening to a mix of Mos all last week. But since your a rookie at Mos, start off with his albums. Blackstar (Mos Def and Talib Kweli) Black on Both Sides Not ready to make that investment? Well here are some of my favs. Most isn't on the albums. The one that stands out most in my head is Shinjiro- This is a track done on one of Dj Krush's albums. I've just recently heard of Dj Krush's work...since i'm revolting against the radio (ala Dead Prez)...and entering a whole new section of hiphop. I'm feeling the whole vibe of this song. Everything blends together nicely. Another World- It's like a billion remixes of this song....it's a beat for every kind of fan basically. Anyways this is a BlackStar song. Little Brothers- I really should save this for the advance mos def listener....seeing as this song prolly won't effect non listeners as much. Kweli is also featured on this song. High Drama- Good song. I'm sure you'll probably like it. The Questions- This is the song that actually recruited me fully as a listener of Mos Def. I've heard tracks of Mos before this song, but wasn't really knowledgable about his work, ya know? It's off of Common's album "Like Water For Chocolate". Theives of Night- One of my favorite Blackstar songs. Respiration- Another BlackStar song that deserves a listen. Thats it for now....leave me a pm when u check out a few.
Guest subliminal_animal Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 "Let Me See" by Morcheeba with Kweli is good. I know Jurassic Five are really talented, and I don't believe they're as gutter-mouthed as most other rappers seem to be, but I'm not into them. It's still nice to see all the attention they've been getting as of late; they deserve it. "Action Satisfaction" you might like. "Madness" and either "Mastermind" or "Virus" (can't remember which one) are both great off the Deltron 3030 album. Check out Aesop Rock and Eyedea too if you like those guys.
Guest Death by Numbers Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 These artists are fine...Most Def is one of my favs...But you should also look at 'The Roots'. I feel they are very talented and underrated. The song "You got me" by the roots featuring Erika Badu...That's one of my favortie songs. DBN
Guest The Superstar Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 "Improvise" is my favorite J5 song...although I haven't heard that many of them. "Quality Control" is good too.
Guest razazteca Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Black Eye Peas De La Soul "Me Myself and I" "Oh Ah" Tribe Called Quest "Scenerio" "El Segundo" "Hot Sex on a Platter"
Guest John Dub Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Thank you gentlemen, all excellent suggestions. My favorites are "The Questions" by Mos Def and "WHere do We Go" and "Sharpshooters" by Kwali. That's not to say the rest aren't good, but these really stick out. THe Jurassic 5 is really good, too. A song I like that wasn't recomended but I tried anyways was "Travellin man" by Mos Def. Thank you guys.
Guest TheArchiteck Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Travelin Man....(Dj Honda track) I was gonna recommend that in the next batch. Something about Mos Def and Djs from Japan just shine well together.
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I like the song "Quality Control" by Jurassic 5 From De La Soul the song "Thru Ya City" is coolness. Oh and both those songs are featured in the movie, "Made"
Guest Banky Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 At The Helm - Hieroglyphics Its Del on the whole track, and probably my most favorite hi hop track of all time. Its a straight flow from beginning to end.
