Guest thetrendsetter Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 The Topic Title Says It.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I'd really doubt if the guys like Zandig, Lobo, and WB had any official training.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Zandig was around on the indy scene in the early 90's as an Ultimate Warrior gimmick. Probably had some kind of small training. Lobo graduated from the CZW Wrestling School. First set of students, along with Pain and Blade I believe. I haven't gotten the Wifebeater shoot interview, so I'm not sure about him.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Gage was also in the batch with Blade and Pain...but I still don't know if I'd call what they did "proper training"
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Probably not, but then again, weren't Prohibiton and M-Dogg 20 backyard guys who never got any formal training?
Guest Sandman9000 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I think M-Dogg said that he got a little after all the backyarding stuff. Not sure.
Guest Sturgis Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I think Prohibition did have training since he is more technical than M-Dogg
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I don't care when it comes to Josh Pro, because the guy's got SKILLS. He could actually be the next Shane Helms if he works hard and ditches the hardcore crap (since Helms trained himself).

I'm going to pretend that you didn't just put Shane Helms and Josh Prohibition in the same paragraph.
Guest Dace59 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 He did, and is right to do so. Helms is a backyard right out of the OMEGA crew with the Hardys and is self trained. The comparison is valid and true.
The Dames Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Isn't it amazing that a guy can literally train himself and make it all the way to WWE with a character and get himself over? Granted, he may never be anything more than a midcard wrestler, but it's still just amazing. ...I wonder if they teach how to take lightbulb shots at the CZW training school. Dames
Guest Sturgis Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 What do you need to know about taking a lightube shot? Just remember that pain is mental and not physical and you'll be alright. That and it hurts worse when you land on a broken one.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 You also probably need to know how to take a bump onto lightbulbs so that you don't land on major arteries (sharp broken glass + major arteries = BAD). And yes, YNA, I did make the Pro/Helms comparison. As Dace pointed out, it's valid. I'm not saying he's as good as Helms was even three years ago, but he could be. Of course, Josh Pro is probably getting some major pointers and side-notes from trainers and trained workers right now, but I don't doubt the kid could be pretty good one day. Even one look at the spots on the BYW tapes kinda says this. Decent talker, too (he cuts a promo before a match against M-Dogg and Creeping Death on BYW vol. 2).
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 My biggest problem with Jo Pro is that he walks to the ring like he's Stone Cold...I'm sorry, but I don't buy that with a jr heavyweight, that he's such a hardass and whatnot. Jr heavyweights from the indies have really bothered me more the past year then they ever use to.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 ...because they have more confidence now, and actual characters instead of just "WE CAN FLY AND DO MOONSAULTS~!"?
Guest Joe Mama Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 to answer the question i think zandig was trained by johnny rodz (might have been someone else but i remembver reading that somewhere)
Chunk Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 He did, and is right to do so. Helms is a backyard right out of the OMEGA crew with the Hardys and is self trained. The comparison is valid and true. Due to the fact that I was still dumb to the world outside WWE when OMEGA was around, can someone tell me a little more about it. Sure, I know it was run by the hardys and had Shannon more and shane helms in it, but what other guys did they have etc? I think I have seen a match from OMEGA with Jeff (Willow the wisp) vs Shannon moore, but thats about all I have seen. I also know that the hardys has their own backyard trampoleen fed. What connection does that have with OMEGA, (if any). Cheers, ChUnK!
Guest Jonathan Barber Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Backyarders who I don't know if they got any training: Ruckus, Frazier Zandig/CZW Academy: Lobo, Pain, Blade, Gage Dahmer: Cash, GQ, Tai Smiley, Merc, Sabian, Stefan Perez, Jude Greg Matthews: Tough Enough Mondo: Dean Malenko's school (yup, shitty wrestler from one of the greatest wrestler's school) Flash and Hatred are 12 year veterans M-Dogg & Josh P.: CAPW Training School; both did backyard wrestling before that, though Wifebeater: Pitbull 1 (Anthony Durante; no wonder Wifebeater sucks so badly) Formers: SAT/Red: Mikey Whipwreck
Guest Jonathan Barber Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Oh, and Zandig was trained by Larry Sharpe, NOT Johnny Rodz.
Guest j.o.b. squad Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Backyarders who I don't know if they got any training: Ruckus, Frazier Zandig/CZW Academy: Lobo, Pain, Blade, Gage Dahmer: Cash, GQ, Tai Smiley, Merc, Sabian, Stefan Perez, Jude Greg Matthews: Tough Enough Mondo: Dean Malenko's school (yup, shitty wrestler from one of the greatest wrestler's school) Flash and Hatred are 12 year veterans M-Dogg & Josh P.: CAPW Training School; both did backyard wrestling before that, though Wifebeater: Pitbull 1 (Anthony Durante; no wonder Wifebeater sucks so badly) Formers: SAT/Red: Mikey Whipwreck few corections mondo was trained at al snow's brainbusters not stinko malenkos frasier was trained by ruckus i dont think hatred is a 12 year vet rebel has been wrestling 14years+ merc sabain and smiley were not trained by dahmer ian knoxx was trained by dahmer
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I know Flash has been around for 10+, but Hatred????? Where was he hiding this whole time then? Alaska Championship Wrestling? I highly doubt he's near the 10 year marker.
Guest Jonathan Barber Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 It's possible I'm wrong, but I've read somewhere that Hatred is a 14 year veteran. He is pretty young, though, so he would've had to start early. I don't know. I guess I'm wrong. Messiah: Carlito Montana, formerly of XPW. Sorry, I don't know why I wrote Malenko. I SWEAR I meant to write Al Snow's school. Either way, I was thinking of Snow when I was writing in it (I'm a big Snow mark ). Stupid on my part.
