Favorite wrestling beatdown!

Recommended Posts

Guest papacita

What's your favorite wrestling beatdown, backstage attack, or "BY GAWD MUGGIN, DAMN IT"?

For me, I'd say the nWo attack on WCW at Disney MGM Studios in 96...you know, the one where Nash darted Rey into the trailer...and where Riggs got hit with the thing...and it was funny..and brutal...that's it.

Another one of my favorites is Razor Ramon's beatdown on Goldust on the last Raw before Royal Rumble 96. I'm not sure how many people remember this one...if you remember, leading up to the match, Goldust was making passes at Razor, sending him gifts and what not ("Let's ooze it together, chico"), and on this particular Raw, the announcers build up a confrontation between Razor and Goldust for that night. Now at the end of the show, Goldust's cutting a promo for a match with Bret Hart the next week, when suddenly Razor just comes through and beats the shit outta him. I dunno where the attack would stand these days, but it seemed brutal to me at the time.

I've got more favorites, but I'll let someone else answer first...ANSWER!!!!!

i loved when Austin came to the ring on the zamboni and jumped from it to the ring over the undertaker, Kane and cops, falling onto Vince, pretty cool....

nWo at the end of EVERY WCW Nitro in 1997. It was especially good if the fans threw drinks at Hgan as he posed and Hogan no-sold them. I always marked out for the nWo beatdowns.

I remember the Razor / Goldust skirmish. That was good TV; they battled out of the arena into the snow.

Flair and Windham had a pretty good backstage brawl in 93 leading into Beach Blast. That one ended up in the parking lot as well.

I believe the LOD had their asses handed to them in the winter of 97 by the original DX and the Outlaws.

Nailz making Bossman his bitch was one of the most memorable ones for me as i'd never seen anything quite as unexpected or drawn out before.

The Bret/Austin - Owen/Bulldog - HBK - Pillman beatdown sequence of the Raw the night after IYH: Revenge of Taker.

After the Austin/HBK vs Owen/Bulldog tag match, the Harts beat down HBK while Ausitn beat down Bret.

When Sting got invovled for the firts time in 6 months at Unscensore 1997 and destroyed the whole nWo.

The Raw the night after "Revenge of the Taker" pay per view here in Rochester. Austin just brutalizes Bret's leg, and still beats his ass in the ambulance.

One Raw where Austin goes to Pillman's house and basically destroys his friends outside with multiple objects.

Pillman Gun Incident = gold.

Like hell Mae Young giving birth to a hand deserved that award at Raw X. Pillman had that won.

Was that when they brawled in the snow?

If so, I remember it. It was funny how Dok Hendrix/Michael Hayes was hyping Razor's arrival throughout the hour ("He's five miles away!" "He's only a few minutes from the arena!") and convieniently Razor arrives just before the show ends.

I can think of two.

Prior to Summerslam '98, The Nation beats the hell out of D-X, including bloodying HHH on a ladder to set up the Rock/H ladder match.

Who can forget the 4 Horseman beatdown on Dusty? I sure as hell cannot.

(This isn't my favourite beatdown, but I'm wondering about it. For instance, did it even happen?)

Sometime around 1998 (I guess), I remember Ric Flair getting beat down by the NWO in a field or some emty lot. They had helicopters filming it from above, and also lighting the scene. It was all so very absurd.

Horsemen destroying Dusty in the parking lot is classic shit! 'Make it good!'

I agree with the NWO too, Nash making Rey Rey a human dart :headbang:

To add-

Earthquake-Hogan on the Brother Love Show

Studd and Bundy punking out Andre and cutting his hair

Honky Tonk Man threatening Liz with the guitar and smashing Savage with it

I remember that Flair beating Tritec. They left Flair for dead and he basically dragged himself halfway back to the arena until some guy in a pick up truck picked him up and drove him the rest of the way back so he could show up and get beaten down AGAIN at the end of the show. I so wanted the pick up truck driver to be someone like Dory Funk, Jr. or Tully Blanchard it wasn't even funny.

One I'm surprised no one has mentioned is Jake Roberts attacking Randy Savage in 1991. Savage was a color commentator at the time and, I forget how he wound up in the ring, but Jake attcked him with a snake on Superstars. Savage's shoulder was all cut up from the snake biting him and they played it that he was all woozy and crazy from the snake venom. Piper ran in for the save finally and Liz cried like Liz always does acting useless.

The Horsemen beatdown on Dusty is the mother of all beatdowns. They actually explained why they had a camera. They hired a guy to film it as a message to all the other faces in the NWA not to mess with the Horsemen. Now, that's pretty logical.

That was CLASSIC - and still one of the most hardcore things I've seen in wrestling.

As I remember, Jake had squashed a jobber on Superstars and afterwards grabbed the mic and turned his attention to Savage. Savage was hot at Jake for ruining his wedding reception at Summer Slam and since Sid Justice had been taken out of Survivor Series with an injury, Randy was hoping to get reinstated and take his spot.

Roberts kept going at Savage while Vince and Piper tried to cool him down. Eventually, Jake said something about his manhood (called him chicken, something along those lines) and Macho snapped. He ran in the ring and Jake caught him offguard right from the start.

As I remember, it began with Rocky and Mark Henry laying out Triple H with Rock making sexual advances towards Chyna afterwards. DX didn't make the save because they had been barricaded in their dressing room backstage - it was a set-up for Triple H and Chyna.

I actually believe Shawn Michaels made the save for Chyna instead of the absentee-DX in that one.

That's a different Raw (and I WAS THERE..*cough*)...

For the ladder incident, I think it was a Nation Vs DX street fight on Raw. From what I remember the other DX members got their asses whooped, leaving the Nation alone to beat HHH with the ladder. I think Chyna was asked to stay in the back for that match, and feeling she wasn't there for DX when they needed her, she challenged Rock to face to face confrontation...which lead to the Rocky/Mark Henry thing and the HBK save.

I've got no one has mentioned-

The WWF beatdown on O'Haire and Palumbo.

I was there live and the pro-WWF MSG crowd went absolutely apeshit.

O'Haire and Palumbo beat up the Hardyz and Dudleyz head for the hills thinking they've escaped- and then they bump into Rhyno. (I think)

Cue carnage

Edit: I just watched the tape...they weren't being held back by officials. What happened is Jeff Jarrett came down to the ring and attacked X-Pac, the Outlaws came out to help him and they got jumped by Southern Justice (the Godwinns), leaving HHH all alone.

I don't remember this one. Can you elaborate anymore?

Also, anybody remember when Vader took out Gorilla Monsoon? I'm always fascinated when a wrestler beats down a poor, defenseless manager/announcer/person of authority. Although I'm not sure you could classify Gorilla as "poor and defenseless." The great thing about his run ins with Vader is Gorilla would stand toe to toe with him everytime. To me, this beatdown paved the way for the Austin-McMahon feud (I'm pretty sure it came before).

The Horsemen-Dusty was great.

The Horsemen attack the Rock N Roll Express in the dressing room after Ricky pins Flair to win a 6 man tag and Flair grinds Ricky's face into the floor.

ICW-Michigan indy......Thug Life (Rhino,Edge,Christian, and Just Joe) band together and stomp a mudhole in ICW promoter Malcom Monroe.

The day after KOTR 2001 the APA rallied a bunch of midcarders together and talked about pride and traidition and protecting their turf.

Thay night they failed to do that as Booker T ran in and beat up Vince and Awesome won the Hardcore title.

So the next night they're ready and pretty pissed off. MSG will not be disrespected again.

The Dudleyz v. Hardyz are in a tables match for the WWF tag titles. In the middle of the match O'Haire and Palumbo run in kick their ass and pose. They then see some guys come after them and slip through the crowd- confident of their escape. As they walk backwards so they bump into people. About a dozen pissed off WWF wrestlers.

And it's on.

They throw them over the ramp and for the next 5-10 minutes proceed to beat the holy fuck out of those two while MSG blows the roof off the place. They get gored, they get tabled- it's absolutely insane and it's vicious. Faarooq spinebusters Palumbo through a table.

The funny thing about this is that where I was sitting I could see some of the wrestlers blocking O'Haire and Palumbo's escape. So I remember going: Oh shit- this may kick ass.

Little did I know how much ass would be kicked

Tommy has finally done the impossible, Raven is gone. The lights go out and soon the beatdown insues. RVD, Sabu and Jerry Fucking Lawler beat down the entire ECW lockeroom with chairs. The crowd was going apeshit. Without question the most extended and best beat down I have ever seen.

The beatdown on O'Haire and Palumbo was damn good, yeah. The whole ambush dynamic is too often missed, I don't know why they haven't done it more often.

What a greatv beat down. It's just about perfect, but my favourite part had to be Sandman running in the the save, pausing to do his beer drinking and then getting beat down
