I was just reading the Scott Keith mailbag, and he mentioned that Satoshi Kojima would be one of the few Japanese wrestlers who could get over in the US. Not being to familiar with Japanese wrestling, I was wondering if he was pretty decent?, any pics?

He's got the charisma and moveset to be accepted in the USA if he was given a push. He's a decent wrestler, nothing hugely special, but he is favoured by a great deal of people for that charisma I mentioned earlier. Has had a few good tag matches with Tenzan in NJPW, apparently, and had a decent match with Tenryu last July.

But someone far more likely to get over with USA crowds is Hiroshi Tanahashi. He's got the superstar look, all the charisma and all the moveset one would need, and a great quickness. Luckily, he's not McMahon's to ruin.

I would say Kojima is a little more than a decent worker. He has basically carried AJ on his back as far as workrate in the last 6 months or so. His match with Tenryu was a MOTYC and Kojima played a huge part in the greatness of that match.

I think Kojima could get over in a Tajiri esqe way. In the fact that he has a semi-decent moveset, and is loaded with charisma. He also has some decent comedic bits. After he won the MLW Title his speech was something like this:

"My name is Satoshi Kojima, I'm from All Japan Pro Wrestling. I like sushi."

He has indeed carried the workrate side of AJPW on his back for the 6 months... shame the workrate side of AJPW is currently in the gutter really, or I might agree with you that he is more than decent.

I was talking with Baisden over MSN about this and he brought up a good point that I never considered.

Most US marks look at Japanese wrestlers as either "evil" or "karate experts".

That's not completely their fault though, since that's how Vince presents them. He also presents them as being goofy people that either can't or have a hard time speaking English (even though Tajiri and Funaki can speak perfect English, but they can't *cough*KAYFABE*cough*.)

Except that the Ace Crusher is basically what the Stone Cold Stunner is. Kojima wouldn't be allowed to use it.

The Ace Crusher is the move that AKI passed off as the Diamond Cutter in WCW vs. nWo World Tour for N64. That's the only way I can explain it.

Kojima's version is more like Diamond Cutter that DDP used to do.
