Guest alkeiper Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Happy with the trade I just made. I like Kim's strikeout rate, and Blalock's breakout season made Alfonzo expendable.
Guest Kingpk Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I think a miracle has happened with the sudden jump in my homers. I've been near the bottom of the league in that stat for most of the season, but Manny finally got off his ass and Geoff Jenkins is a Godsend. Of course, Sweeney's on the DL now. At least Klesko's there to pick up the slack a bit. I want to trade for a closer with 15+ saves.
Guest razazteca Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 If Valverde is on the FA/Waivers list get him last week he had about 5 Saves, he was brought up mid season so don't let the 9 Saves scare you.
Guest Kingpk Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Hey kids, let's play a stats game: Bill Mueller: 4-5 (HR, 3 R, 6 RBI) Manny Ramirez: 2-3 (HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) Todd Walker: 4-5 (3 R, 3 RBI) Total: 10-13 (2 HR, 8 R, 12 RBI) Wow. Oh, but I also had Pavano though, so don't take this as gloating.
Guest alkeiper Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Looks like my newly aquired starter just became the Red Sox's closer.
Guest cartman Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Good thing too since his starts are marginal at best. The guy has the motions to fool hitters but lacks the Velo to blow them away. Therefore LOTS of his pitches are fouled away leaving him with high pitch counts earlier than he should. I think he will be WAY better in the closer role, even if i think Lyon was just fine there. Lyon now becomes a very valuable set-up guy with his 96mph heat

Guest alkeiper Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 The problem now is finding a spot for Kim. All my pitchers are pitching well, and none of them deserve to lose their spot. When Vlad gets back, I'll be sitting pretty.
Guest Kingpk Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Yeah, and now I'm REALLY desperate for a closer. Right when I'm making a move to 4th, too.
Guest razazteca Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Anybody want Matt Kinney or Tom Glavine in the other league.
Guest alkeiper Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I could use a real first baseman. How about Kim for Klesko?
Guest Kingpk Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 (edited) Yeah, sure. Sweeney's on the DL, but I got Dimitri Young to cover it until he comes back. EDIT: Trade accepted Edited July 1, 2003 by Kingpk
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Tom. Give me a few days to think about the trade.
Guest alkeiper Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 In the unofficial league, Alomar's trade left me in a bind, as Kent's on the DL. Hopefully Loretta will perform decently enough. Josh Beckett's return will give me a boost, though I missed out on last night's performance.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 Supposedly Rockies closer Jose Jimenez has been demoted, no longer the closer. If thats so.. THATS IT YOU'RE GONE! /Jim Daniels mode off He has no fantasy value other than for his saves. EDIT: Upon confirmation, hes been dropped. Maybe my ERA and WHIP will see a nice bounce. Glad I grabbed Rod Beck when I did...
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 I wouldn't trust Rod Beck has far as I can throw him.
Guest DrTom Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 Obviously, a guy who was 19-21 in save opps doesn't belong in the role anymore...
Guest razazteca Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 The Denver Post reports that Jose Jimenez has lost his job as the Rockies’ closer, and has been replaced by the tandem of Justin Speier and Brian Fuentes. Jimenez has been reduced to the role of situational setup man and will be used against right-handed batters. Views In case you had not guessed, Jimenez is on the trading block. Fantasy players should drop him because no matter where he goes, he will not be a closer—not with a 7.04 ERA and a 2.01 WHIP yahoo sports/fanball.com
Guest Kingpk Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 (edited) Good thing I dropped Brandon Lyon when I did, eh? 2 out of 3 to the Rays, when you're going against the YANKEES next!! Oy. EDIT: They started on the right foot, at least, but DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT I should have had Mueller in there. Edited July 4, 2003 by Kingpk
Guest razazteca Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 In the other league I am looking to trade for a Closer will consider all trade offers.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 15, 2003 Report Posted July 15, 2003 Having slipped back a bit from 2nd to 5th, I cleaned up my roster a bit and propose a trade to the Wraiths. Im trying to address the two biggest weaknesses I have (ERA and WHIP) that can be corrected in the 2nd half.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 15, 2003 Report Posted July 15, 2003 Who are the Daegu Lions? or whatever the 1st place team is.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Who are the Daegu Lions? or whatever the 1st place team is. That would be me. Quite frankly, I am shocked I am doing this well.
Guest alkeiper Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 Ok, the last place team trades an ace closer to the first place team for a starter who's bombing this year. Why should I approve this trade?
Guest alkeiper Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 And for the record, I will likely approve it, since the only reason to veto trades is to prevent collusion. I just want to hear the reasoning for it.
Guest DrTom Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 THat's the thing with making trades in non-keeper leagues: there's no future to offer the owner lower in the standings. In a keeper league, a high-ranking owner will "trade for the win," usually taking on players who can't be kept the following season. In return, he gives the other owner players who are potentially attractive keepers the next year. I did this last year in going for the win, and I'll probably do it this year, too, though to a smaller degree. In a single-season league, the going-for-the-win trades look like one guy just dumping random players for good ones. I really doubt there's any hint of collusion involved; it's just the way the trades work out when there's no next year to consider. BTW, anyone low in the standings in my league who wants to trade me some good players to help me win is encouraged to do so.
