Byung-Hyun Kim will start the season in Arizona's rotation as a starter. Their closer is supposed to be Matt Mantei, but I doubt that will last long..

Alfonseca is out for a month according to the blurb on the bottom of the league page.

As far as my team:

C Geronimo Gil

1B Mike Sweeney

2B Jose Vidro

3B Tony Batista

SS Cristian Guzman

OF Barry Bonds

OF Bobby Abreu

OF Andruw Jones

IF Adam Dunn

Util Jay Gibbons

Solid at every spot but Catcher and SS, although I expect Guzman to put up better stats than last year, especially in the SB and OBP categories.

SP Javier Vazquez

SP Rodrigo Lopez

RP Jorge Julio

RP Esteban Yan

P Russ Ortiz

P Damian Moss

P Steve Trachsel

I neglected my pitching big time. Glad I got Julio and Lopez, but the rest looks like its going to be shaky..Yan is as good as gone as soon as I can figure out who to replace him with.

Will Kenny Loftan have a good season? Was he worth dropping Roberto Alomar?

Matt Mantei? Who hasn't shown he's returned to form before elbow surgery. Why not just stick with Kim and have Mantei setup.

Because a good reliever is easier to find than a good starter.

And Razateca, you're confusing this with my unofficial league. And no, you shouldn't have dropped Alomar for Lofton.

I have no idea why the DBacks would want Mantei as the closer and Kim in the rotation, but thats what I was reading when I was looking for a closer I could trade or pick up.

Also, I just decided that if anyone wants Mike Sweeney, he's available if someone wants a trade. I can move Dunn over to 1B and Gibbons up.

I'll trade you Charles Johnson or Mike Lieberthal for Sweeney. That'll help you upgrade your catching. Or Contreras is available.

Might as well show you my team:

C LaRue, Jason (C-Cin)

1B Klesko, Ryan (1B, RF-SD)

2B Kent, Jeff (2B-Hou)

3B Bell, David (3B-Phi)

SS Eckstein, David (SS-Ana)

OF Hunter, Torii (CF-Min)

OF Ramirez, Manny (LF, DH-Bos)

OF Jones, Jacque (LF-Min)

IF Castillo, Luis (2B-Fla)

Util Lawton, Matt (RF, LF-Cle)

Bench:

Walker, Todd (2B-Bos)

Higginson, Bobby (LF-Det)

Mientkiewicz, Doug (1B-Min)

Young, Kevin (1B-Pit)

Pitching:

Mussina, Mike (SP-NYY)

Clement, Matt (SP-ChC)

Nunez, Vladimir (RP-Fla)

Stewart, Scott (RP-Mon)

Williams, Woody (SP-StL)

Lawrence, Brian (SP-SD)

Wells, Kip (SP-Pit)

Bench:

Hernandez, Orlando (SP-Mon)

Romero, J.C. (RP-Min)

Dempster, Ryan (SP-Cin)

Again, I'm looking for some better pitching, since I have a pretty stacked offense.

I only ask for advise from the smarts here because this thread is easier to find and the fact that it is at the top of the forum.

I thought Lofton was better than Alomar just on last years stats, so I made the FA pick up.

Lofton and Alomar are both on the decline, but I'd still take Roberto over Kenny anyday.

I agree with Tom. Alomar is better than Lofton. Lofton's a better reserve outfielder.

I don't like my outfield. If someone wants to propose a trade for one of my pitchers I'll listen.

Well I was just going keep Kenny on the bench and rotate him into the Outfield when there was an empty spot, I only picked him up for the steals stat.

I thought it odd to dump Alomar, cause 2B is thin, but you do have Biggio.

Guest alkeiper

Yeah, but he played 2B last year, so he's eligible at 2B this year. After 15 games, he'll be OF eligible as well.

my whole team is thin outside maybe 2 players

Why are you allowed to play somebody at a postition they don't even play anymore.

Guest alkeiper

It's a standard eligibility rule. Most leagues let you play a player at any position he played 15-20 games at last year. I don't have a problem with it because Biggio could play 2B in real baseball without a problem.

Vern, most leagues require 20 games the previous season for a player to be eligible at that position on draft day. In some cases, a player who hasn't played 20 games at any position is eligible at whichever one he played most, stricter leagues confine those players to DH. During the season, playing one game at a position qualifies a player there. That's how our money league does things, and AFAIK, we follow the official Roto rules.

Will Lofton start the season for the Pirates 1st in the batting line up or be in the Minors?

Guest DrTom

Everything I've read (and I admittedly don't follow the NL as closely, since the money league is AL-only) indicates he'll be the leadoff hitter on Opening Day.

Guest Vern Gagne

I would doubt Lofton would play in Pittsburgh if he had to spend any time in the minor leagues.

I lucked out to get Brandon Villafuerte, who will be the closer for San Diego this season. Im going to propose some trades now and whatnot and see what I can get trade wise.

I just made a great trade in the money league (AL-only, 4x4 keeper).

I gave up Mariano Rivera (entering option year at $45) and Joe Kennedy (entering option year at $11) to get Joel Pineiro (entering option year at $6) and Carl Crawford (entering 2nd year at $10). Basically, I traded two guys I wasn't going to keep for two guys I'm definitely keeping. The trade worked out for both teams, though, since the other owner badly needed saves, in a league where closers will be at a super premium at the draft.

The quest to defend the title is now officially underway.

I'm a huge Carl Crawford fan. He showed signs last season and I see a bright future for him.

Guest alkeiper

Crawford's a little young, but he'll work out in a keeper league. He'll get you some steals at the very least. I really like Pineiro as well.

Guest DrTom

I've always liked Pineiro. I was given my choice of Pineiro ($6) or Buerhle ($3, both entering optionm years), and I chose Pineiro. Buerhle has pitched an awful lot of innings on his young left arm the last two years, and while he might not throw especially hard, I just think he's an arm blowout waiting to happen. And I'd rather someone else owns him when that occurs.

Pineiro pitches at Safeco Field as well, so that helps a ton. I was surprised to find that Pineiro's actually older than Buehrle.

Who got Mark Prior? That's someone I'm really high on.

The Perfect Team.

By the way, if you go to "available players", you can type in a player's name and it'll tell you if he's on a team.
