Guest benoitrules2000 Report post Posted February 26, 2003 I'm sure this has been posted before, but what can you look back on and still mark out like a bitch over? For me, it's wcw in 96/97, I know everyone pretty much hates it now but it's what got me hooked on wrestling. The first wcw ppv i saw i stumbled on purely by flipping the channels(I'm aussie, back then we got the ppv's on free.)and came across some wrestling. The ppv was bash at the beach 96. I had only seen wwf up till then and immediately recognized hall and nash which intrigued me. Then when hogan turned heel, my mind was blown and i've been obsessed ever since. Now i watch old nitro's from that peiod and find myself becoming the 13 year-old mark i was then as opposed to the jaded workrate-obsessed one i am now. So? cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2003 92/93 - WWF and WCW. Yes, very cartoonish. That's when I got into wrestling, was hooked by guys like Bret Hart and the British Bulldog, saw my first PPV (WrestleMania IX), and attended my first house show. Other than nostalgia reasons, there was a lot of good to mix in with the bad during that time. The Perfect face turn on Prime Time, the Vader / Cactus Jack feud, Bret Hart's first run with the title, the Hollywood Blondes, the first KOTR, Summer Slam 92, and the first Slamboree (which got me interested in some of the old school wrestlers). And even some of the more cartoonish wrestlers are still regarded today as being some of the best gimmicks ever. For example, Papa Shango and the Mountie. Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted February 26, 2003 WWF 97. The emergence of Austin and DX when they were still fresh and different. The US/Canada feud. The development of Foley's different personas. The whole Kane saga. Hell, I even liked the gang wars. Except for Survivor Series onwards, 97 was a wicked year. Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted February 26, 2003 Late 1996 got me hooked into wrestling (WWF), and Survivor Series really got me to the point where I loved it. So my first period was about Late 96 to Early 97 (WWF, then I lost cable until February of 98 and started watching WCW when I got TBS), so I'm kind of attached to that. Love watching WWF 92...I need to get some of the Prime Time Wrestling from then with Hennan/Moonsoon, because supposely it's gold and most of the WWF 92 PPVs where great. Too bad I didn't watch wrestling then. Favorite period...I'm going to have to go with WWF from Early 2000 to about Early 2002 (Wrestlemania 18). To use the old proverb, it was just like sex...even when it sucked, it was still pretty good. I also liked WCW from about Mid 2000 to when they shut down in early 2001...the storyliens made no sense, but I just like the matches they did and it was actually entertaining. Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted February 26, 2003 1989, specifically what the NWA was doing. You not only had Flair and Steamboat putting on some of the greatest matches ever, but had good workers in solid matches and feuds up and down the card; Sting, Luger, Muta, Liger, Pillman, The Midnight Express, The Steiner Brothers, the Varsity Club, Terry Funk. It not only seemed a lot more "edgier" and "real" to me than what the WWF was doing, but it's the point I started turning from a markish kid thinking wrestling was cool to someone who liked watching good matches and good wrestlers perform. Guest BAR Report post Posted February 26, 2003 WWF: 1997 The Hart Foundation, Austin's come-up, Dude Love debuting. Just great times man, watching with friends. Of course, I love a lot more than this but this stands out.
Guest papacita Report post Posted February 26, 2003 For nostalgia, late 95 WWF (it wasn't THAT bad). 96-97 WWF was great too, as was the summer of 98.

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2003 I'll go with WWF 1997-2000. Even though 99 sucked, every other year in there had something awesome in it that made the WWF good viewing.

Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted February 27, 2003 When I discovered ECW in early 1995 it saved me from totally writing off ProWrestling. I was so ready to rid myself of the circus that McMahon put on, and WCW at the time was pretty bland, sanz, a match here and there.
Guest Shaneomac Report post Posted February 27, 2003 WCW- I though that from the New Blood vs Millionaires Club angle until the end, was actually a lot more entertaiing than people give it credit for. WWF- I really enjoyed 2000 with HHH, Rocky, Y2J, Angle, the Radicalz and others putting on awesome matches left and right.

Guest Si82 Report post Posted February 27, 2003 WWF 1990/1991 really got me hooked and I still love events from those years and 1992 as well. I also like WWF 1997 (The Hart Foundation owned!)/1998 and WCW 1998- early 2000. Although I'm currently enjoying NWA/WCW 1990 at the moment thanks to WWE Classics on Sky Sports. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the restart on April 10th 2000 but I think it fell apart a few months later for me so i didnt include it as an era Im a huge mark for Sept 99- Dec 99 , Russos first run in WCW I loved everything from that time and was totaly ignoring Raw
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2003 There are three specific eras that I always mark for. NWA/WCW 87-91. This was the time I first got into wrestling. I was 4 when I started watching with my new stepdad. Great times. All of the Horesmen/Rhodes/Sting/Luger/Steamboat/Road Warriors/Stieners stuff from this time is great. WWF 89-93. I started watching alot of WWF around this time, and the stuff was just so epic in my mind. Warrior/Hogan, Savage/Hogan, Zues, The Barber Shop, Earthquake squashing Damien, all sorts of insanse shit that's solid gold to 8 year old. WCW/WWF 96-98 The Monday Night Wars. I had quit watching wrestling for a couple of years, besides catching a match here and there. I'm flipping through the channels and see Monday Nitro. It's like one week before Bash at the Beach, and I see Hogan and decide to check it out. The next week I come back and they show Hogan turning heel to join Hall and Nash. I'm hooked, end of story. A few months later and it suddenly becomes cool to be a wrestling fan. One of my buddies at school tell me about Stone Cold Steve Austin. I'm like, no way is Stunning Steve as cool as this guy says. I was wrong. I tune in to Raw, and see craziness ensue.
Guest Banky Report post Posted February 27, 2003 96 (Bret Hart's return) until early 99 (Rock turns face) 2000 (Radicalz debut, Triple H as a fresh face) until 2001 (end of Steve Austin's heel run) April 2002 (Eddie return) until June 2002 (Eddie's push halted) Nov. 2002 (Cena's new kick ass gimmick) to present day (Rock's heel turn, Austin's return, and Cena's progressing character)
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted February 27, 2003 I would have to say that the best wrestling era as far as I am concerned was the wwf and wcw from 1991-1993!!! Thanks.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted February 28, 2003 NWA/WCW 87-91. This was the time I first got into wrestling. I was 4 when I started watching with my new stepdad. Great times. All of the Horesmen/Rhodes/Sting/Luger/Steamboat/Road Warriors/Stieners stuff from this time is great. cant argue with that, FACE PAINT rules all, and the tag teams of this era were some of the best period R&R vs Midnight Express vs Horsemen. WCW/WWF 96-98 The Monday Night Wars Rey Misterio vs Dean Malenko as opening match on Nitro, Booker T as TV Champion, Raven vs Benoit vs DDP and Jericho doing the wrong name and the according to the rule book gimmick were a reason to watch WCW. While on WWF Mankind was Hardcore He's Hardcre He's Hardcore he ate WORMS JR! also the Mankind gimmick matches were WTF he's crazy material and Austin was telling the police, his boss and Canada to fuck off with the 2 finger salute. Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted March 1, 2003 I got hooked Sept./Oct 96. I watched EVERYTHING on TV and rented every video I could find up until I lost premium cable in September 98 so all I had was TBS. I watched Thunder every week then got cable again right before the end of WCW. I still followed it alot and the point I lost interest was when HHH got injured. The point that REALLY killed my interest was the draft.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 1, 2003 I have to say the Dark NWA style WCW days 1989-1994...Before they brought in all the glitz and glamour... WWE From 1992-1993... ECW-Start to the end of Raven's tenure... and of course WWE 1997 an WWE 2001.
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Report post Posted March 1, 2003 WCW '98 to me seemed more 'real', more like a sport than what the WWE was putting on at that time. No hardcore matches, no bikini contests, just quality wrestling three nights a week. (The most hardcore gimmick match in WCW at that time was the steel cage match.) I LOVED the cruiserweights and WCW Saturday Night around this time, because you'd see so many interesting and entertaining guys from the Power Plant PLUS the cruiserweights PLUS the main eventers would show up from time to time for squash matches and promos.
