JasonX 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Huge Early Spoiler From Smackdown Taping Posted By Ashish on 03.04.03 We have early word on a major result from the Smackdown taping... SPOILER WARNING! If you do not want Smackdown spoiled for you, do not read this post! Earlier tonight at the WWE Smackdown taping, it was announced that Kurt Angle will defend the WWE Title against Brock Lesnar, but not at WrestleMania. The two will go one-on-one on the March 13th edition of Smackdown. Angle will apparently gut out one final match before having surgery on his neck. He will then be out for at least a year. The plan right now seems to be to have Angle lose the belt to Brock on 3/13, and then have Brock go on to work a new program for WrestleMania. We will have full Smackdown taping results later on tonight. Credit: Mike Johnson & 1wrestling.com
Guest Deebo Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Angle should NOT "gut out" one final match, but if he is then why not do it at Wrestlemania?
Guest RedJed Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Angle should NOT "gut out" one final match, but if he is then why not do it at Wrestlemania? I was thinking the same thing myself.......Michaels did it at Mania 14, and I can think of countless other times as well. Then again he's probably not because he's injured something fierce.......but then why do this at all? Maybe it still wont happen, we'll see.
Guest edotherocket Report post Posted March 5, 2003 That's so stupid. If he can do one more match (and he was bumpin' in the cage this week) why not do the match at Mania? It's not like the WWE care about match quality in their main events. At least it looks like Undertaker won't face him.
Guest edotherocket Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Let the guessing game for who Brock faces begin!
Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted March 5, 2003 It's John Cena... we're getting Cena/Lesnar for Mania's co main event
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 5, 2003 It's John Cena... we're getting Cena/Lesnar for Mania's co main event I'd buy that for a dollar
Guest edotherocket Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Is Cena actually fit? Is his injury a work?
Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted March 5, 2003 I'm pretty sure it's a work... I haven't read anything about a legit injury And although Cena/Lesnar would be somewhat fresh... it's not really a match I would pay to see. I've already seen them wrestle each other once, and it was okay... but not $50 specfuckintacular
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Turn Brock and build to a Benoit match with Cena post-Mania.
Guest edotherocket Report post Posted March 5, 2003 What is Cena's finisher? Small package?
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 I believe it's called the Killswitch. No idea what it is, though. The Protoplex, maybe?
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 I could see Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit squaring off in a friendly encounter. That would be just as good as Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Cena's finisher (not sure if it's the 'protothingy' or not) Is a spinningout powerbomb, where he sort of puts them down with more of a uranage. Looks cool, but he needs something he can do on bigger guys if he's gonna get a big push. It'll do for now, however. Saw him use it on velocity.
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted March 5, 2003 I think its better (if they insist on Angle losing the title in the ring) for him to do it in a few minutes on a small stage, then to wait an extra 3 weeks for surgery, and get his ass kicked in the biggest show of the year. I just don't want the real BROCK / ANGLE long match / epic encounter to be ruined....if they do the smackdown match their is a better possibility down the road to do the real great match the two are capable of. A 3 minute squash at wrestlemania cause they are so worried about Angle's neck by that time would suck. niko
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Fuck. I say just turn Brock heel, have him pummel Angle and go back with Heyman (Heyman knew Angle was out, cut his losses, I don't care how they explain the rest), wait for the full match until next year, and build Benoit up as your challenger and turn Cena face for down the road. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Kurt could just forfeit the title (the WWE could come up with some odd reason) and have a tourny for the belt.. and eventually leading to Brocky winning it.
Guest humongous2002 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 WWE is fucked big time and hopefully they learn their lesson by elevating new guys to the main event level, in SD they had only one big heel and that was Angle after him everybody else are second class heels and on RAW is the HHH/Austin and Rock show everybody else are treated as low midcarders. These shit happens when they don't plan for the future, right now the future is not Austin or HHH and definitely is not grandpa Hogan, in this fast paced world people want to see something new already, give the new blood a chance, and i mean the guys that are young and over with the fans, Booker might be over but he is on his way out too and Vince shouldn't build the company around him, let the new generation version 2.0 take over. Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Fuck. I say just turn Brock heel, have him pummel Angle and go back with Heyman (Heyman knew Angle was out, cut his losses, I don't care how they explain the rest), wait for the full match until next year, and build Benoit up as your challenger and turn Cena face for down the road. Heyman doesn't need to be involved. Just have Angle come out and cut a heartfelt speech, where he tells the fans how his neck has been hurt and how sorry he is that he won't be able to give them the dream Wrestlemania match-up. I reckon Kurt could pull it off in a manner to get really quick sympathy. Then have Brock come out and just be a totally callous bastard, either calling Kurt a coward or just go crazy on him because he's taken away Brock's chances of a win on the biggest stage. I'm sorry, but Heyman can no longer be used in Smackdown storylines. If Brock turned and went back with Heyman, that would be the fourth straight title reign Heyman has been instrumental in, and I can't accept that. It allows Heyman to hog more airtime and is simply an excuse for lazy writing. Need X to be a heel? Pair him up with Heyman! That just won't continue to work and is detrimental to wrestlers in developing solid heel personas. Look at Team Angle - they're good wrestlers but they have no control over their heel identities. All their heeldom springs from who they are associated with. If Brock is to step up and become an even more important presence now that Angle' s gone, he should be able to do so autonomous of Heyman. But yeah, it seems Brock-Benoit is now the only way to go.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Is Cena actually fit? Is his injury a work? hes been working house shows
Guest notJames Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Concerning the Brock/Angle title match on 13 March, they probably want to do it right away so he can get the surgery done sooner. I don't think they want to wait more than two weeks for it, even though he'll be wrestling up until that point. If heel Brock is the only option, have SD! hype up Angle's neck injury and how he still wants to fight despite it. Play on his Olympic win with the broken neck. Heyman can rant and rave about how stupid and reckless it is, showing just how desperate he is to keep the championship in his camp. Angle tells Heyman to fuck off, finally realizing that the belt is more important than his association with Heyman. The fight happens, Brock dominates, but Angle fights back a little. At some point, Team Angle beats on him in plain sight of Lesnar. Lesnar picks him up, teasing compassion, then he waylays him and murders him with multiple F5s, then pins him for the belt; all the while, Heyman watches on and washes his hands of Angle. The crowd turns on Brock's viciousness (hopefully), Angle gets the sympathy face turn, Lesnar is done with both of them, problem solved. No titles vacated, champ is beaten "cleanly", and Benoit can slide into the contender's slot. What's more, the SD! heel champ can go over, whilst the RAW heel champ (hopefully) gets beat to send the crowds home happy. BTW, Cena's Killswitch finisher is like a Blue Thunder Bomb, except it spins into a uranage instead of a sitout powerbomb.
Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 What I would do is that I would have Kurt Angle lose to Brock Lesnar on Smackdown. After the match Kurt Angle shakes Brock's hand and perhaps Kurt may also leave to a standing O since he will be in his home town. Then the following week reveal that Kurt Angle wrestled Brock with an injured neck and he will be out for a year. That way Angle looks tough for gutting it out against Brock and would get him over as a face for when he returns.
Guest tetsubeav Report post Posted March 5, 2003 So, I'd say it's safe to assume no F5 for Angle, right? Please?
Invictus 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 So, I'd say it's safe to assume no F5 for Angle, right? Please? I would only hope so, but this is WWE after all. Kurt shouldn't even be wrestling at all, according to Dr. Youngblood. If he does wrestle, he is taking far too great a risk for something as meaningless as a wrestling feud. I'd rather see the title lose some of it's luster with a forfeit, than to have Kurt Angle permanently crippled.
Guest Crux Report post Posted March 5, 2003 This is ridiculous--he shouldnt have to defend the title and risk further injury. But I guess you gotta keep it kayfabe or its some sort of taboo.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Fuck. So close to Wrestlemania this has got to be a desperate situation for the WWE. Please God, don't make Vince get so desperate that he shills out the cash for Goldberg. Please.
Invictus 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Like I said in the Live Smackdown Spoilers thread: Heaven forbid that the WWE actually remind it's fans that a WRESTLER was hurt while WRESTLING on a WRESTLING show. I'm so tired of every injury having to be part of some stupid angle. Enough with this soap opera BS! Just let Kurt give his speech and leave for his surgery. If the marks are that stupid that they can't understand something so simple as a wrestler being unable to compete due to an injury, screw 'em.
Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2003 From 1wrestling.com "I have gotten a lot of email asking me if Kurt Angle will work any more matches before having his neck surgery since there are many reports circulating on the internet as to whether he will or not. It was announced on Smackdown last night that Angle will defend the WWE Title against Brock Lesnar on next week's show. WWE sources have told me that Angle will work the match next week, and I would (obviously) expect him to drop the belt to Lesnar at that time. Coincidentally, the match happens to be in Angle's home town of Pittsburgh."

And that would make the fans respect him and you could have an easy face turn when he comes back. HHH might even allow him to have a Desire video upon his return. Guest JMA Report post Posted March 5, 2003 Just have Angle make a speech in Pittsburg to get face heat. Something like "I'm not out to insult the town tonight. This the real Kurt Angle speaking." He can explain the injury and say tonight will be his last match before neck surgery. He says he wants to give the fans their dream match since he can't make it to Wrestlemania. Have him also tell Heyman and Team Angle to say in the back during the match. Then they have a great match with Lesnar going on. They shake hands and Angle gets the Benoit applause.
