Guest JMA Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 I thought someone should make one of these. Anyways, discuss anything relating to the possible war with Iraq here. It will also serve as a countdown when/if the war happens.
Guest Dangerous A Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 I'm hearing between March 13-15 is when we will begin a strike, but with Turkey pulling what they did this last weekend, that could be held up by as much as a month now.
Guest SP-1 Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 While I still hold out hope for a diplomatic solution of some kind, I just hope it's all over with relatively quickly.
Guest Dangerous A Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 While I still hold out hope for a diplomatic solution of some kind, I just hope it's all over with relatively quickly. I couldn't have said it better, SP.
Guest Powerplay Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 If there were a diplomatic solution, they'd have tried it by now. I don't care what you think about a president, there isn't one out there who will just throw away the lives of American Servicemen without a a damn good reason. And personally, I see it happening within the month. I just hope it is over quick enough that the we can start helping the Iraqi citizenship as soon as possible.

I think the possible war is more about killing/removing Saddam Hussein rather than helping the Iraqi people, though I do see the benefits of a successful democratic Iraq in the Middle East. Â I really can't see a peaceful resolution right now...Iraq says it is going to dismantle its missiles, word from the UN sounds like France, Germany and Russia are gonna veto the war resolution...and there is a good chance America will still attack anyway. But I'm still hoping that somehow a peaceful solution can be found. Â If it does come to war, I just hope it's over quickly and not many servicemen are killed, and that the goals are accomplished (removing Saddam from power, democratic government in Iraq, destruction of WMD's).
Guest spiny norman Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 "If there were a diplomatic solution, they'd have tried it by now. Because Vietnam never happened.
Guest NoCalMike Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Well at work there is a pool between a few of us. I picked March 17th - 19th was the day the war starts. Hope I am wrong though.
Guest Olympic Slam Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Its getting close, I'm guessing next week Friday the 14th.
Guest EricMM Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 If we go in unilaterally, (as it seems we will/must) then we should have gone in unilaterally months ago. We haven't made any friends this year in this regard. All the attempt at bringing on the global community has led to brick walls in the form of France and Germany.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 We aren't going in unilaterally. Most of Europe is behind us. Jordan, and Saudi Arabia want Hussein out of but are afraid to publicily support the war.
EL DANDY~! Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Gee, Verne, that couldn't be because Iraq could, say, launch a missile towards them as soon as a public denouncing of Iraq is mentioned, could it? Â Here's the deal. Nobody wants a war. Like yesterday, my friend tried telling me that he thought the media was lying and that it was all for oil. Seriously, how fuckin paranoid could you be? I love how you can ask someone who doesn't support the war, and the reason why? Oil. People are pretty stupid sometimes. Of course, oil might be A reason, but it's not THE reason. I'm not doubting that...
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 That's a possibility. Â It just bothers me when people say the US is doing this unilaterally.

I'm not doubting that... Seriously. I have yet to hear any good reasons why we shouldn't go to war with Iraq from the anti-war activists other than the usual "all about oil" or "war never solves anything" mantra. In yesterday's class discussion session all of my classmates were against the war, not because of foreign policy concerns, but because they dislike America's status and George Bush. My god, I'm the conservative Bush supporter and I can rattle off at least 10 GOOD reasons why we shouldn't go to war. If you ask me, oil is yet another reason why we should be toppling Iraq.
Guest Tim Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 It's doing it tri-laterally. Â US, Britain and Oz.
cawthon777 Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Let's just get this over with. Once it starts, most of the military analysts are expecting it to last about 2 weeks tops. Â On another note, if President Gore were banging the pro-war drums (and he's said many times that he's for military action against Iraq) - not nearly as many people would be against him, especially not Hollywood.

Let's not turn this into a partisan battle. And I'm sure some of the celebs would be against Gore if he wanted to go to war. Because if you're a celeb, talking about a possible war is instant publicity. That's all I have to say about that. Â Anyways, I too hope it is over fast. Then we can get rid of the N. Korea nukes problem. After that I see the Bush administration going after Saudi Arabia.

He is discussing something about the war and I think he makes a good point.  Hopefully we can get the UN Resolution passed but if not- fuck them.  I heard Saddam will be going into hiding soon so hopefully we'll be able to find him Edited March 6, 2003 by bob_barron

Because if you're a celeb, talking about a possible war is instant publicity. That's all I have to say about that. So you're saying that people like Martin Sheen and Susan Sarrandon who gave Gore thousands if not millions of dollars during his 2000 campaign would be his harshest critics today as they are Bush's? Â As O'Reilly might say "Sorry, Senator ... but I'm not buying it."
Guest wwF1587 Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 im all for not having it .. or just getting it over with quickly... i say we start war March 13th....
Guest NoCalMike Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Well if the whole "weather" issue is truly a legit factor, then either war will start soon or be held off for another 6 months.....
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Well the UK is expected to propose a more softer resolution that gives Iraq a specific date. That will likely be the last time the U.S. and U.K attempt to get a UN resolution, before they take military action against Iraq.
Guest Brian Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Weather's legit because in the summer, starting around April, it gets up to 110 in the desert or so.
Guest JMA Posted March 7, 2003 Report Posted March 7, 2003 So you're saying that people like Martin Sheen and Susan Sarrandon who gave Gore thousands if not millions of dollars during his 2000 campaign would be his harshest critics today as they are Bush's? What I'm saying is that if Gore won and decided to go to war with Saddam he would be critisised by Hollywood. Probably not as harshly, but he would still be critisised. Hollywood is always looking for a cause to jump onto. The prospect of war is just too great for them not to.
Guest Silence Posted March 7, 2003 Report Posted March 7, 2003 I would go with April 1st but I've been told that the heat would be a little much by then. No matter when we go in, I just hope America doesn't lose it's nerve to fight against any idiots that want to kill us. There are just some times when you need to knuckle-up and throw down!!! And Saddam is the first to get his face smashed in!!!

Well you're making a blanket statement when you portray Hollywood as simply the dissenting opinion of the government. I've no doubt that there would be some outspoken peace lovers but most of these uber liberal actors would be supporting the Clinton / Gore "legacy".

And you're simply generalizing Hollywood as a bunch of liberals who hate everything conservative. I neither like or dislike Hollywood. It matters not to me. I still think Hollywood would oppose the war no matter who was in charge.
Guest Austin3164life Posted March 7, 2003 Report Posted March 7, 2003 This whole war is the worst idea since Vietnam. I heard Bush's speech tonight, and he answered every question with the same "My job is to keep America safe" retort. The worst thing I can't stand is when I get scrutinized for questioning Bush and not blindly supporting his "gung-ho" campaign. I find it hard to believe that just because a government decides to go to war, the citizens have to support the President. And I am COMPLETELY against a draft resolution and a "shared sacrifice" among Americans. If I don't believe in a war (or war in general), I would never subject myself to risking my life for someone else's cause. Bombing Iraq and replacing the regime will cause more and more Palestinians to hate the American government, and it will destabilize the region. The people there suffer enough already with malnutrition and water poisoning. It's funny, since the US put Hussein in power. Look how the US handled the Egyptian "crisis" in the fifties. Many suspected Mohammed (?) Nasser of obtaining weapons of mass destruction and planning to use them, but Eisenhower said regime change is "absolutely out of the question" and told France and Britain to not interfere. 5-10 years later, Nasser died and nothing happened.
