Main Eventers Who never faced

Recommended Posts

Guest tank_abbott

I'm not talking "Dream Matches" like Magnum TA vs Randy Savage circa 1986, I mean like Hulk Hogan vs Bret in 1993/ Hogan/Savage vs Demolition 1988/ Bruiser Brody vs Stan Hansen in the AWA 1986... Goldburg/Savage 1998 (Maybe on Nitro?)... Piper/ Savage WWF 1986....Bret vs Luger 1993....Steamboat/Vader 92-94...

Actually some of those did take place. Piper and Savage had a few bouts during their WWF years. Bret and Luger had a post-WrestleMania IX rivalry. Steamboat and Vader had a few very memorable bouts on Saturday Night if not elswhere (classic underdog Steamboat that never gives up until he's squashed like a bug).

Let's see ...

Well, if I can pick any wrestler that was a main eventer...

Rhodes vs. Hogan (89)

Rhodes vs. Andre (89)

Rhodes vs. Warrior (89)

Bret vs. King Mabel (95)

Savage vs. Bossman (88-89)

Rude vs. Vader (94 ... although it did almost happen)

I'm pretty sure Savage- Bossman faced off a few times during the Towers- Powers feud. Could be wrong though.

They actually did have a few matches. One specifically is mentioned by Piper in his book. He allowed the Undertaker to give him a tombstone on the floor - thus losing the match via count-out - so he could sell it like death the next day at the grand jury for Vince's trial with the government.

Flair and Taker also had a few bouts after Flair regained the title from Savage.

Flair and Undertaker did fight while Flair was in the WWF.

See, I can't imagine those matches. Did UT do the Zombie Sit-up in the Figure-Four? I must know what happened in them.

It's on a Coliseum tape called WWF Grudge Matches.

I've never seen it personally

Well, it must have ended in UT getting a win by Count-Out/DQ because that was during the whole "UT never loses" period.

Scroll down to September.

The one match I've seen between the two was courtesy of a handheld recording of the Providence, RI show on September 10th. Taker hit the tombstone, Mr. Perfect nailed him with a chair (which of course led to a DQ), Taker no sold, Perfect ran his ass backstage - leaving Flair dead in the ring.

I know Hogan and Flair met up in tag matches and I want to say I remember hearing them squaring off on house shows. I'm sure Bob could fill that one in.

The most famous tag match was probably a SNME where Sid turned on Hogan and it lead to their Wrestlemania match.

Yea- they faced off on house shows.

There's one that's on fan-cam.

Flair/Hogan during Flair's run in the WWF. Should have happened, but didn't...

They actually fought every other day between October 91 and January 92. Once Flair won the belt, the one-on-one matches stopped to build heat for the Hogan / Flair bout that was scheduled for WrestleMania.

It's on The Undertaker's first Coliseum Video, Undertaker's Gravest Matches. I don't remember it very well. Either UT did sit-up during the Figure-4 or Flair released it too early. It was also a WWF Title match.

My money is on this being the card with that specific Flair / Taker match...

Jim Powers defeated a jobber

Ted Dibiase & IRS defeated Virgil & El Matador when IRS pinned Virgil as Dibiase held Virgil's leg down during the cover

The Comet Kid (Max Moon) defeated a jobber

The Big Bossman defeated Nailz

Ted Dibiase & IRS defeated two jobbers

WWF IC Champion the British Bulldog defeated Papa Shango via disqualification when Shango shot a fireball into the Bulldog's face

The Undertaker defeated WWF World Champion Ric Flair via count-out

WWF Tag Team Champions the Natural Disasters defeated two jobbers

Did Perfect ever face Savage or Dibiase in late 80s/early 90s WWF?

Hulk Hogan defeated Ric Flair via count-out

An example of the Hogan/Flair meeting, one that I was actually in attendance for. I still have the card (newspaper clippings, results), so here were the results if you want them CAW.

"Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich defeated The Great Kabuki.

Superfly Jimmy Snuka defeated "The Model" Rick Martel.

Tenryu defeated Haku.

Rowdy Roddy Piper defeated Ted Dibiase via disqualification (Sherri inteference).

Nasty Boys defeated The Rockers.

British Bulldog defeated the Berzerker.

LOD defeated Natural Disasters (Tag Title Match)

Hulk Hogan defeated Ric Flair via countout.

It was a split-card houseshow (with the other show in Boston that night), so the lack of starpower in the undercard is understandable.

I think they had a few 4-way matches when Goldberg was a heel and Jarrett was either world champ or top contender. Not sure about one-on-ones.

Piper and Savage had a few bouts during their WWF years.

Watch Wrestlefest 90. The video kicks off with a Piper DQ win over Savage. They have a nice dualing airplane spin spot.

"Undertaker vs Jericho"

i think Taker and Jericho faced off on one of the TV shows

i know Sid and Vader fought many times in WWF but did they ever have an encounter in WCW? The starcade main event was scrapped but did they have any house show encounters before?

I honestly don't remember Jericho and Taker ever facing off- They faced off in a 4-way once but never one on one to my recollection.

They were both heels, and when Taker came back- Jericho was a face.

And they turned heel in the same week pretty much

I know they had a tag match in Sid's last WCW TV appearance in October 93 (taped before the scissors incident but shown the weekend after the 11/10 Clash of the Champions). It was Flair / Sid vs. Austin / Vader. The match never really started as Sid was jumped by the Collossal Kongs and triple teamed by them and Vader on the floor (kayfabe credited as the attack that put Sid out of WCW).
