Guest Ram Report post Posted March 21, 2003 I believe they did find the black boxes on the 9/11 flights. It's off topic but ABC News reported: "Although investigators look for an entire black box, sometimes the only parts of the device that survive are the recorder's crash-survivable memory units (CSMU). THE CSMU IS ALMOST INDESTRUCTABLE. It is housed within a stainless-steel shell that contains titanium or aluminum and a high-temperature insulation of dry silica material." “It is designed to withstand HEAT OF UP TO 2,000 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR ONE HOUR, salt water for at least 30 days, immersion in a variety of liquids such as jet fuel and lubricants, AND AN IMPACT OF 3,400 G’s. By comparison, astronauts are typically exposed to up to six Gs during a shuttle takeoff.” [ABCNews - http://abcnews.go.com/sections/scitech/Tec...oxes010917.html] So the Black Box is designed to withstand an impact of 3,400 G's. So what about the Pennsylvania crash site? "THE VOICE RECORDER WAS SAID TO BE HEAVILY DAMAGED, and the manufacturer was being asked to help with further analysis. The plane that crashed in Pennsylvania was reported to have hit the ground in excess of 500 MILES PER HOUR." [ABCNews - http://more.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/dai...main010915.html] The plane hit the ground at 500 mph. Taking the weight of the plane, its speed of descent, the G's end up much, much lower than 3,400. Since each plane has two seperate Black Boxes which are designed to be indestructable in the event of a tragedy, that makes a total of EIGHT BLACK BOXES. If we are to believe that all the Black Boxes were damaged beyond use, then that is to say EIGHT BLACK BOXES in total were destroyed, while a measley paper passport survived. Thanks to my friend Shibli for referencing this. Anyway, just couldn't resist the challenge, sorry. Faulty work?
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted March 21, 2003 http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2003/03/...1/48006-ap.html BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Saddam Hussein has decreed that any Iraqi who kills an enemy soldier will get a reward equivalent to $14,000. And $28,000 will go to anyone who captures an enemy soldier alive, the decree said, according to the official Iraqi News Agency. Shooting down an enemy fighter plane is worth $55,500, a helicopter, $28,000, and a missile, $5,500. Killing the pilot will bring $14,000; capturing the pilot alive is worth twice as much. Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted March 22, 2003 I just heard that about 10000 Iraqi soldiers have surrendered. They are basically saying "Fuck this, we rather live". I have feeling that we will hear more stories like this. I think also this is showing how pathetic the Iraqi military really is. I think the first Gulf War kinda dismantled it. Throw in the inspections that took place before 1998, which did destroy a good amount of weopons. And I think that the US military is going to march right up to Baghdad, where they will experience the hardest fights (the most gung-ho of Saddam's republican gaurd). So far this has been a cake walk, which I am glad, because the shorter this is, the less causulties on both sides. As for Iran entering the fray, I doubt it. I think that the Mullahs know if they send their forces in, it's going to weaken their home front to the Iranian students who are screaming for reform and relations with the west. I guess they trully want their MTV. The last thing the Mullahs need is for them to have nothing to protect them.

Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted March 22, 2003 I wake up around 10 and am taking my time making coffee and such and finally turn on the TV and see that part of Baghdad got bombed back to the Stone Age. Wonder what that giant explosion was (the one that lit up the TV screen for a few seconds and the debris came fluttering down after the detonation). Iraq's army was reduced to a third of what it was in the 1991 Gulf War. Throw in that they haven't updated their equipment much and they are screwed, until they can hole up in Baghdad's buildings and force the Coalition troops to root them out, where much of the Coalition technology would be useless. Were they proven to be Tomahawks, or were they fired by Iraq? Edit: Because, suffice to say, Iran is in the totally wrong direction than Iraq.

I personally love the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill", especially when morons like these people take it totally out of context to mean you aren't to kill ANYTHING/ANYONE. I love it even more when vegies use it to mean animals, heh.

I've been listening to all of it on my radio up here and frankly to me America is being overlyconfident. This war has just started and your already killing your selves. Pace yourselves so that there's some left of you to drop bombs on the Canadians if we ever get involved. Seriously though, I don't really approve of war but Hussien is a evil man and needs to be stopped. But remember those weapons he's using to kill American soldiers were given to him by America. The people in Iraq are so poor and sick partly because of the UN sanctions that the US spearheaded. No one is blameless.

The people in Iraq are so poor and sick partly because of the UN sanctions that the US spearheaded. We gave him a token amount of chemical weapons back in the 1980's. He's created far more chemical and biological weapons than we gave him. He's attacking with Russian guns, Russian tanks, Russian artillery, Russian AA, Russian missiles, Russian planes. Who gave him weapons again?
