EL DANDY~! Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Today, as I was going out running errands, I come to the main square in my town and see a protestor holding up a cardboard sign...and I quote: "November 2000-March 2003-Our democracy is dying." A man who is invoking his DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH is saying our democracy is dying... Allow that to sink in a little bit...

Really, my grandmother thinks that having the word "Republican" in the Pledge of allegiance is Unconstitutional. I tried to explain it to her, but she is hard headed.
Guest SP-1 Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Heh. But more than one word starts with "D" and that's CATCHY~! So he figured he'd use it. Logic be damned, it SOUNDS good!
Zorin Industries Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 When your'e introducing things like the Homeland Security Act it might not be dying, but its certainly feeling unwell.

Because a minority of people are against the war in Iraq and we still went through with it? BTW, "Republic" is in the Pledge, not "Republican" "I pledge allegance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all."
Guest Brian Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Well, the patriot act doesn't help things out.

It really pisses me off when people talk about how they aren't represented when stuff like this happens. We live in a REPRESENTATIVE Democracy for a reason, mainly because it's a litle hard to get 250+ million people to vote on each and every little thing and be informed about what they're voting on. As a result, if they have a problem with what's going on, they need to vote against their senator or representative in the next election. Hell, Tom "I'm a huge fucking hypocrite" Daschelle voted to give Bush war powers last year but is now pissing and moaning about how we shouldn't be at war. That pisses off BOTH sides and, hopefully, the good people of South Dakota will send him packing at their earliest convenience.

I know, that's what I've been trying to explain to my grandmother.
