Nathan Jones

Entire topic will be spoilerish if you haven't seen Smackdown.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Jones was supposed to have his first match tonight. Instead they showed him coming out of the locker room where he left Palumbo laying after putting a beating on him. Taker had a good laugh over it, and they walked away.

Ok, not really a spoiler because Smackdown's already aired, but I wanted to try the cool new feature.

Anyways, so how bad is Jones? They're not even willing to let him get in a pre-PPV squash where he can just go about showing off his power, but they're still giving him a match in the biggest PPV of the year? How is hiding his "ability" going to entice me to buy WM, I'd be more enticed if I were given a small sample of it. This is a tried tested and true method for showing off new talent, as well as pushers.

So is he so bad that they're worried that he's actually going to drive off buyers? I mean if you're going to drive away people interested in an imobile Hoss/Hoss team vs imobile Hoss/Hoss team, how bad are you?

I haven't seen any of his previous work, I've only read about it. So anyone with firsthand knowledge of how bad it will be?

Jones could have gotten a little over based on his size, but they screwed that one up by putting him in with guys who are as tall as him, maybe taller, and who are much bigger than he is. His size was about the only thing he had going for him, and now they've killed that off already.

If you watched Smackdown tonight then you know he has no idea how to engage in any sort of forward momentum, much less fall down. But, hey, the lineup needs a comedy match...and maybe he'll take A-train down with him.

He was on a special about a year back, I believe about some California promotion called UPW or something, which featured Christopher Daniels on it as well. Just a bit of useless information.

But in the Captain Obvious bit of the day: The big musclebound former NO Saint got a contract with the WWE after training for six months. Developmental deal obviously, but should be pulled up soon. Meanwhile, Daniels was given a tryout match with WCW, but we all know how that ended...

At least El Gigante had a freakish appeal.

Nathan Jones reminds of Bull Buchanan with no talent.

Yeah, that show focused a lot on one big guy I'd never heard of. All I really remember is him having a falling out with his girlfriend and getting pissed cause the camera was on him. Nathan was all smiles on that show as I remember.

But yeah, Nathan is really bad. I'd say he's the overall worst on the roster right now. Maybe having his match on Smackdown would have killed some of the Mania buys...good call Vince.

So lets see, who was the last muscle bound big guy, that was kept out of the ring to "not give away" a fight? That turned out OK didnt it?

And keep in mind that Jones is far far worse.

Well after watching him, well let's be generous and call it "move" around the ring tonight and seeing the rest of the "talent" in the ring with him, I'm getting a serious Kane/'Taker vs. Kronik feel to this. The only hope we have is that the ring collapses and injures them all.

Funny had he been squashing cruisers week in and week out everyone would've complained...

Then most would've said...have him fued with Albert so they can suck together and Jones can show his awesome power by whipping another Hoss.

Really you guys are never happy on here...

I think its been 2 years since everyone started the WWF Deathcount, and yet they remain a profitable company.... Funny...

I'd kinda be happy if he wasn't on WWE tv taking time away from good wrestlers.

I'm going to get Wrestlemania for the SD tag match, Y2J/HBK, take a piss during the tag match, and I'm going to tape it all.

Then, I plan on getting drunk on a random boring night, and watching the tag team..and suddenly it'll be like Benoit/Jericho vs. Austin/HHH!

Always look on the bright side of life!

Actually, smarks have been remarkly prescient when it comes to the WWE. The WWE bashing really started with the Invasion angle, which is right about where business started to tail off in a big way. And people didn't really start the "death watch" until last summer. Of course nobody's saying they're going out of business tomorrow, and truth is, there does exist a fair chance of WWE going out of business in 5-6 years or before.

As for profitable...actually, they weren't profitable last quarter. While their losses were due to a "one time charge", investors are no longer so gullible as to only count operating income and ignore one time charges. Anyway, it's quite clear things are going to get far, far worse for WWE.

I know for a fact people were saying the WWF was in deep doo doo when they had to change there name to the WWE and everyone said OMG!!!...Then Hogan cycle stalled on a live RAW and everyone said that was the jump the shark moment.... It changes every few weeks...I've been following everyone's bitchings since 99... So far it hasn't led to WWE's demise...so far...

And why do you say it will get worse before it gets better?

What proof do you have that "the next big thing" might not pop up within a reasonable timeframe... 5-6 years? ...C'mon...

After watching Jones "fight off" A-Train and Big Show last night, I have a new-found respect for Lance Storm's wussy punches and worked stomps.

The fans are going to turn on Jones faster than they turned on Steiner.

Speaking of Steiner and Jones can you imagine how awful those matches were?

Man, I'm getting Nam flashbacks just thinking about them...and I wasn't even in Nam.

I have some hope for Jones....but boy is it ever slim.

If they keep the Hoss tag a brawl, then it might be watchable, much like Vince and Hogan.

I'm honestly looking forward to this match. There's no telling how bad it can get.

Can someone explain this to me? I know the stock answer "WWE Logic" tolls for Mattdotcom, but seriously think about this theory.

Assume temporarily that GM Stephanie signs Nathan Jones. We know that Nathan Jones just got out of prison, therefore Steph had to negotiate with him while he was in jail. From SmackDown two weeks ago and last night, we can assume that Nathan Jones has never been trained to wrestle, nor does he have common sense.

Why did Steph sign Jones? A psychotic (she saw the video packages, too) ex-con who has no idea what he's doing? Seriously, I want an answer.

*Weeps*

I'm thinking of shelling out the cash to see WM, just so I can say I saw the worst match of all-time.

Does Jones even have one redeeming quality? He can't wrestle, he can't promo...hell, he looks like he has trouble putting one foot in front of the other at times.

Promo-wise Jones is all right. However, his workrate is what I'm interested to see.

I don't know for sure that they've said he "just" got out of prison, but assuming your premise, I'd say big fat Steph signed him because she has a history of fauning over big roided white guys with sloping brows and no talent.

Kayfabe's answer: He won a "World's Strongest Man" competition. How bad a wrestler could he be? (insert obligatory Mark Henry joke here)
