Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted March 28, 2003 For me, it's Wish You Were Here, but don't go for the obvious ones. And even if you hate Floyd add your reasons. A lively discussion is welcomed.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted March 28, 2003 I've always believed "Obscurred by Clouds" could have been huge if DSOTM was not released a year later. The problem with my belief is that I wasn't around back in 72 so I couldn't tell you how popular it was then... but it's basically an unknown album outside of the hardcores... and it's a shame. I like it better than DSOTM. I always thought Obscurred by Clouds >> When You're In would be an awesome concert opener (if I am ever in a band, we'll definitely use it)... too bad the Floyd hardly ever played anything off ObC. I enjoy most of the albums... probably my least favorite is "The Wall" and second least favorite is "The Final Cut" although "Not Now John" is a rocker. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 28, 2003 Meddle has been in my top 20 albums for years. A true masterpiece.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted March 28, 2003 My favorite is Wish You Were Here, followed by "Dark Side" and the "The Wall" After Roger Watters left the band, Pink Floyd wasn't as good as they once were, IMO. But, if the chance to see them live came around, I wouldn't mind going to check them out. Definately one of my more favorite older bands, next to Led Zepplin and the Stones. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 28, 2003 I went with Animals. Every song on the cd is nothing short of excellent. Normally, I would say Meddle, but San Tropez has been annoying me more than usual lately. That album has their best and worst song. It's pretty interesting. Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted March 28, 2003 I went with SoS, but only after spending 5 minutes staring at the list, wondering why I couldn't see Ummagumma on there anywhere.

Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted March 28, 2003 Of course it would have ben inconsequential if you would have put Obscured by Clouds on there, that's whats getting the most play here...
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted March 28, 2003 Look I'd have put them all up there but I had a limit of ten.

'san tropez' is a song that i actually enjoy. while it goes against the grain of most pink floyd projects, and could arguably be called fluff, sometimes it is the most suitable song in their catalogue if you want to disappear and be transported to some mind-fuck portal in another dimension. sorry, but as blatant as donovan's "mellow yellow" was in its message, it has nothing on "san tropez"
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 29, 2003 Ugh, I don't like it at all, and would go so far as to say it's a bad song. That was the LAST album that needed that track. An uptempo ditty just doesn't belong there, and on that subject, why the hell did Floyd bother doing an uptempo ditty like that anyway? I mean, they're the kings of variation and trying new things with their music, so it's not too surprising, but that's the only "sound" of theirs that they tried that just fell flat. I doubt they even bothered with it further either, as it doesn't really sound like their other material at all. Maybe as a goofy *wink wink* sort of thing, it might work for some folks, but why put it on Meddle which just has this killer groove throughout, aside from that speedbump. The story is this: EMI (Floyd's album distributor at the time) wanted a "radio-friendly" song on the album that might get buyers around Christmas time. Of course, Roger Waters thought this was a retarded idea, so he wrote San Tropez to basically be a parody of what they wanted. He purposely made it ridiculously upbeat and out of sync, and then wrote some inane lyrics complete with acid trip references and such. The song hurts the album but becomes better once you know the backstory. Otherwise, the core of side 1 (One of These Days, Pillow of Winds, Fearless) is quite good. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 1, 2003 Animals is probably the solid Pink Floyd album followed by Division Bell and Wish You Were Here. My least favourite has to be The Wall. Its got great songs, and lots of filler. SoS is probably the only Pink Floyd album I have yet to hear
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted April 1, 2003 I voted for the wall, it is actually my favorite
Guest teke184 Report post Posted April 1, 2003 I went with Wish, but I was torn between it, Animals, and The Wall. Animals had three great tracks and the bookend "Pigs on the Wing" tracks. Wish You Were Here was the same way in that Welcome To The Machine, Have A Cigar, and Wish You Were Here were great but I'm not a huge fan of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The Wall has some of Floyd's best tracks but has a few that annoy the piss out of me if heard as a single instead of a piece of the collection. Mother is the most annoying of those IMHO. Great standalone tracks include Another Brick In The Wall II, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell, and Goodbye Blue Skies.
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted April 1, 2003 I voted The Wall, but I will admit I'm not a huge Floyd fan. It's actually one of the few albums I've heard all the way through (that I can remember) so that alone would get my vote. BUT: It also gets my vote because I've been watching the movie a number of times recently, and the story is just...wow. I love the story, and got so into it at times that I think I'd kill the actor who played the dude that cheated on Pink's wife if I ever saw him. It just boggles my mind that everything tied together so well, but anyway... Yeah, I do know that the movie and CD are somewhat different in tracklisting and such, but I have heard the actual CD, and I say the movie is close enough to get the vote anyway. So I vote The Wall. WHich I already said. Damn, I'm rambling...

The only song I know of in the movie of The Wall that isn't on the album is the one about his father's unit at Anzio, which is played when Pink is looking through his father's old stuff. (It's on Final Cut, for those who actually want to listen to that shitty album) There was also an extended version of one of the tracks in the film, which I believe was Another Brick In The Wall III. As for the album, the only song I know of that was completely cut out of the movie was Hey You, which is in a deleted scene included on the DVD.

The extended song for the film is "Empty Spaces" the full lyrics are actually on the album linear notes but for some reason the song on the album is shortened. Also tracks like Goodbye Blue sky and a couple others are out of place. I'm so cool I saw Pink Floyd- The Wall in 70mm a few years ago at a midnight screening. I remember that from the last Floyd-intensive thread. Even knowing that, it still irritates the crap out of me. Almost even moreso because they put a joke of a song on such a killer album.
