Guest bob_barron Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 McKinney also has Lucien and Fagen with Koecher. Nealon was awesome as Mr. Subliminal
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Nealon was ok as Subliminal Man and average at best at WU. I enjoyed Nealon as the anchor, he had a wonderful deadpan tone that I thought was wildly different from the man he replaced and the man who replaced him: Dennis Miller and Norm MacDonald respectivly. Has there ever been a thread about Weekend Update anchors here?
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I'd put Brad Hall, Melanie Hustell and Victoria Jackson on my bottom 3. I'd say Mark McKinney was bottom 10 as well, but outside of Scottish Football Hooligans Weekly he was totally misused. I can't understand why they gave McKinny so little to do. Lorne KNEW he was good, he produced Kids in the Hall. I just don't get it.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 And I'll change my answer from Gary Kroeger to Kevin Nealon. At least Gary had some success with his Donny and Marie skits with Julia Louis Dreyfus. Nealon brought nothing to the table. Nealon didn't pump **clap** you up?
Guest Vern Gagne Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Nealon didn't pump **clap** you up? IMO..Carvey made that sketch. Not that Nealon was terrible, he was just kinda there.
Guest Nevermortal Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Chris Elliott Two words for you.... Cabin Boy.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I've never liked Chris Elliot myself. He comes off as a big overgrown dufus and not a in a funny way, more of in a sad, why hasn't he committed suicide yet sort of way. He has atrocious timing and line delivery. I didn't mind Get a Life, but that's probably because it played on his natural persona of being a pathetic dumbass to good use.
Guest starvenger Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Eliott just doesn't seem to fit well in an ensemble cast. It happens sometimes. Has there ever been a thread about Weekend Update anchors here? I thought that Bob had done something like that before? I'm probably wrong. I can't understand why they gave McKinny so little to do. Lorne KNEW he was good, he produced Kids in the Hall. I think Bruce McCollough was supposed to come onto the show as well, and maybe that was what Lorne was banking on. Anyone else remember that taped "stalker" sketch with Garafolo? I don't think that there were any other bits that McCollough did...
Guest bob_barron Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I've never started a thread on WU but if someone wants to start one I'll contribute. Bruce was a writer on the show and I have no idea why McKinney got screwed over like he did. Elliot sucked on SNL- as did almost everyone in 94-95
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Then I'll just take my WU anchors post and start a new thread then.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 McKinney's a funny bastard. The Kids In The Hall show that...but on SNL he just never clicked. Now Michael McKean, there was an unfunny guy. He brought nothing to SNL and never made me laugh.
Guest RevEvil Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Just wondering, how often do you see episodes from the 80's. I occaisonally get episodes from 88 & 89 seasons, but that's it.
Guest godthedog Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Now Michael McKean, there was an unfunny guy. what??? haven't you seen 'this is spinal tap'?
Guest starvenger Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Now Michael McKean, there was an unfunny guy. what??? haven't you seen 'this is spinal tap'? Hey, he was good on 'Laverne and Shirley' and 'Dream On' as well...
Guest Dmann2000 Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Versave is also pretty bad. PERSPECTIVES! with Lionel Osbourne. Man I must be the only one who loves the Donatello Versace. I mean, it's just so over-the-top crazy I love it, though I can see why it would grate on people's nerves. But anytime someone can say "get outta here you crazy bitch I love you", I get a kick out of it. Oh man, I loved "Perspectives", especially the Rudy Gulianni episode. "So you beat Mayor David Dinkins?" "Yes" "Well that is not fantastic" It's 4:45 in the morning, you're watching Perspectives"
Guest Dmann2000 Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 I never can understand why they try to pass Maya off as black since she doesn't really look the part Well she is half-black, it kinda might be a reason. 'Nother reason I might like her, I sure do think those black/white girls are sexy. Her and Lisa Bonet and Halle Berry. Yes.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Oh and worst cast member, how about Pamela Stephenson Can anyone tell me what she was in? I bet some of you think I made the name up, but she was on the 84-85 season. Or Denny Dillon I never liked David Koetchner
Guest starvenger Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 I never can understand why they try to pass Maya off as black since she doesn't really look the part Well she is half-black, it kinda might be a reason. 'Nother reason I might like her, I sure do think those black/white girls are sexy. Her and Lisa Bonet and Halle Berry. Yes. Hmm, I didn't know that Halle Berry was only half black. It makes her casting as Storm much more appropriate then.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Now Michael McKean, there was an unfunny guy. what??? haven't you seen 'this is spinal tap'? Hey now, that's a classic...but he didn't do anything at all funny on SNL.
Guest starvenger Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 So anyways I was just channel surfing and on Comedy Central they had another of the 'unfunnies' - Laura Kightlinger, who was on the cast during that super craptastic 90's transition season.
Guest DerangedHermit Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 - I would say Chris Kattan, but he's not so bad this year (Gollum, Buddy Mills, avoiding Mango and Peepers). - Definitely Melanie Hutsell and Beth Cahill. One was an ugly bitch that could only make faces and who the hell was the other one? At least Siobhan Fallon appeared in SOME sketches. - Molly Shannon - Chris Farley and Adam Sandler during 1994-95 - Chevy Chase would be on the list if not for Land Shark.

It makes her casting as Storm much more appropriate then. You must've not seen her white mama on the Oscars last year. Of course doesn't surprise me, she's goes out of the way to downplay the fact that she's bi-racial it seems. I mean yes I understand the majority of the world will see her as black and so she embraces her African heritage, but the girl could be a spokesperson for multi-ethnic young people. I mean she's not on speaking terms with her black father. Does she even have contact with her black relatives?

Chevy was awesome as Ford, Land Shark and WU. Him leaving after one season was pretty scummy though
Guest MDH257 Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Maya is as black as Tiger Woods and Halle Berry. Bob apparently dosen't think so, but what other cast member do they go to when they need someone to play the female host of a BET hip hop show. I mean they could get Tracy or Dean, but then it becomes a "guy in drag" joke.
Guest bravesfan Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 For me, it's a deadheat between Rachel Dratch and Ellen Cleghorn. Neither, to my recollection, have been the center of a sketch with ANY redeeming value.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Out of everyone that was there for a while, the worst has got to be Tim Meadows. Man, that guy sucked!
Guest Mattdotcom Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Chevy was awesome as Ford, Land Shark and WU. Him leaving after one season was pretty scummy though Chase is considered pretty scummy period, Bob. I was reading a preview of that new SNL book ("Live From New York" I think, whatever it is, you should definately review it) and every cast member that was around when Chase hosted hates him. He and Steven Segal are the two worst hosts ever according to them. Chase was a sexist asshole drug addict. I did not read one good word about him in the short preview. What I did read did drop my opinion of him way down. But I still mark for Land Shark, just not as much as when I was little.
Guest bob_barron Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 I have read the book Matt and yea- Chevy is a major asshole period. He's also a major asshole to fans. Polish Rifle- Have you seen Russell and Tate? His OJ impression? Perspectives?
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 I pick Ed or Tim or whatever Kacsaringzingham....or whatever the hell is name was. Short nerdy guy with glasses. I always heard about Piscopo on the Simpsons when I was young, so I didn't realize the joke about how much he sucked until I actually watched the show. The only good cast member from that era is Eddie Murphy, no doubt about it.
