If this truly is the end for Kurt Angle...

Recommended Posts

Guest bravesfan

In the back of everyone's mind, we'll be pulling for a unscathed Kurt Angle after tonight's match. Win or lose, he's proven to be a fighting champion and a revered influence backstage. If his career is to end after tonight, which is still a very REAL possibility, I will know that I will have seen one of the "total packages of wrestling" at his best, giving his all one last time.

****+ matches, hilarious promos and incredible desire - all condensed into a 4 year period. Wrestlemania XIX could be the end of Kurt Angle in a wrestling capacity, but it'll also be the beginning of the "Kurt Angle Legend".

I've created this thread simply for the purpose of talking about Kurt Angle....leave your HHHate and "smark badge" at the door...and let's just talk.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Post anything you wish to say about Kurt Angle...a favorite moment, match, promo, subtle joke...or even anything that was so hideously bad and lame that it embarrassed you. Just post it to keep this thread at the top of the forum for every WWE fan, past and present, to see.

I remember watching a tag match with Angle/someone vs. someone/someone. Whenever 2 someone's were in the ring with each other, the match was slow, dull and boring. Once Angle was tagged in, it was completely different. The contrast in workrate was just simply so apparent that something just seems to scream out at you; telling you that "This is what a good wrestler is supposed to be."

"I tear my quad all the time. In fact, I tore my quad this morning and I'm fine!" *jumps around*

"Yippieekayay Mother Hubbard!"

"You don't boo an olympic gold medallist!"

The amazing crowd reaction for him at Rebellion 2002.

The whole match against Chris Benoit at RR 2003. Especially the DDT on the apron, the overthrown German spot and the finish. Maybe my favourite match of all time.

Working his ass off against Big Show at Survivor Series 2002. The match was ** at most, but Angle was at least at ****1/2.

The introduction of Team Angle.

The moonsault off the cage.

His first match with Benoit at WM XVII. When he went "screw the matwork" and and just clobbered Benoit right in the face I marked out huge. Heyman's commentary was awesome there.

His skits with Edge & Christian.

His skits with Austin and McMahon.

Breaking Scotty's ankle. Well, his mean streak as a whole was great.

The love triangle with HHH and Stephanie, except the ending. One of my favourite angles (pun intended). Him kissing Stephanie for the first time was a great moment.

John Cena's debut.

His serious promos with Lesnar. Especially before Survivor Series 2002 when he interrupted Brock's autograph signing.

That's all I can think of right now, but there's so much more.

I witnessed the greatest match I've ever seen live thanks to Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle in Boston at the Rumble. I was on the edge of my seat, and yes...jumping up and down rooting for Benoit during the final 10 minutes of the match. Unbelivable.

If this is Angle's last match...he must stay around in the WWE and SOME sort of position.

Kurt/Benoit feud with Benoit having Kurt's medals

Any match involving Kurt, because you knew it was going to be great.

I'll just add to this list that skit he did in LA where he pulled out of a baby carriage a stuffed animal monkey with an HHH-enlarged nose.

Funniest. thing.ever.

The (as Edge put it) useless Kurt cameo in the ckicken suit skit. I think the 'Hey! My chicken suit" totally made the whole thing.

At the 2000 Rumble after Taz choked him out how he kept telling the 'EMT' how he was undefeated because he was illegally choked out and the guy just kept ignoring him. I laughed my ass off for some odd reason.

Nearly killing Shane throwing him into windows and the top rope Angle Slam.

Two words...King Kurt

The greatest EuroContinental champion of all time. Fuck D'Lo! B-)

Angle/Benoit at Rumble. That alone was worth about 30 bucks. The final five went to the rumble just for being a rumble match.

That skit he did with Essa Rios where he asked Rios to get him some coffee.

His promo on Canada before winning the European Championship.

"Oral exams, NOT Oral Sex!"

His hilarious interview pre-No Mercy where he pieced together Rock interviews so he "said" that he ran over Austin.

And everything everyone else has said.

"Tap out you son of a bitch- or I'll break your fucking ankle!"

I'm gonna have to go with his match v. Austin at Summerslam 2001. Seeing him bleed like crazy and beat the holy hell out of Austin is great

1) Seeing Him Live Three Times

-I was very fotunate to see Kurt Angle live in October in a SmackDown dark match against the Colorado Kid before his official debut. When Kurt soon skyrocketed to my favorite wrestler in early 2000, I knew I had a special memory.

-I had ringside seats at a house show and Kurt Angle beat Bradshaw. While not a match I would've liked to seen, I still marked out for Angle live the first time.

-Armageddon 2000. Going in, I knew it would be his last title defense. They were building up to a Rock/Austin rematch. One of them would have to win the title. The odds were stacked. When Angle rolled over on the Rock after a Stunner and got the three...well, you just can't describe the feeling of being the only person in the arena cheering the biggest heel of the night.

2) The Cowboy Hat...

-...and my delayed "Hey! I've got that in a closet!"

3) First WWF Title

-I was going to leave for New York the next day. What a way to go. I chugged milk while marking out.

There's just too much. Angle has honestly been my favorite wrestler since 2000. To see him perhaps go out like this, in what has to be his second or third major injury, is just sad.

Here are just some of the things I loved about Kurt Angle:

His cage match with Benoit from Raw where he missed the moonsault from the top of the cage.

Actually pretty well any match with Benoit can be added.

Anything he did with Steve Austin was pure gold too, especially when they were both members of the Alliance back in 2001.

His feud with HHH over Stephanie McMahon during the Summer of 2000 was a perfectly booked story.

Most of my favourite Angle memories have pretty much already been said already. One other one that I remember Angle doing was his speech in Vancouver Canada. It was on the Raw where Kid Rock appeared, Angles little promo about being the North American Hero and saying how Canada has no real heros was hilarious!

Every match he's had. Every promo he's cut. Every single time he's appeared on my television screen.

Honestly, Angle has been my FAVORITE wrestler since his Survivor Series debut. I remembering watching it live and thinking "He is going to be THE man someday." I've just loved everything he's done. Unfortunately, I've never been able to see him live :(

Yeah, the Vancouver one where he said you could get attacked by a Grizzly... but then again nobody loses to the Grizzlies anyway. That made me laugh.

The mini cowboy hat.

ANYTHING with Austin or Benoit.

His feud with Mysterio

Him making Kane tap out! That was really cool and hardcore got the anklelock over.

His promos with the Rock.

His matches with Jericho.

There's just so much.

His promos with the Rock

OGM~! I loved those!

"I'm not talking about those little cartons of milk. I'm talking about the GREAT BIG *JUGS* of MILK~!"

Those were classic. Unfortunately, it was probably the highlight of Angle's bomb of a 2nd title reign.

Kurt from my "Who-ran-over-Austin" SD! in L.A.:

"Steph and I were just talking...and we find it very interesting that last Monday night, Rikishi declared that the Rock had nothing to do with running down Stone Cold Steve Austin. How convenient, Rock! But I guess if they can find OJ innocent out here in LA - oh, it's true, it's true, then maybe you can find some Los Angelenos gullible enough to believe that the Rock had nothing to do with it, too. And that is true."

I was at WWE RAW on July 9th, 2001. This was the night the WCW\ECW Alliance started. In this time period, Angle, Austin, & McMahon were doing there pseudo-3 Stooges angle to cover up the fact that Austin and Angle were injured. This was the week after Austin presented the group with cowboy hats. Angle said he had a gift for everyone as well: badges! And of course, Austin didn't like this. And he showed his displeasure by saying, "Kurt? Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!" I have never heard such a sustained laughter at a live wrestling show ever, and I've been to a lot.

If tonight is Kurt Angle's last match, I will miss him horribly and it will take a lot for Vince to fill the hole that will be left in his abscence.

-During his feud with Undertaker, when he tries to apologize to him about "soiling" his bike with milk, he says "As they say on the streets, my bad."

-The milk bath

-Kurt winning the title the first time because you never expected it to happen and it was one of my biggest mark-out moments ever.

May not be his greatest...but his 3 matches with Booker (ECW Re-formation Raw, Smackdown in Pittsburgh when Angle wins the WCW title, and Raw the next Monday when Booker retains the title) are 3 of the best matches of 2001 TV. Great shit.

Seeing Kurt win the title for the first time Live.

His stuff with Austin & Vince still cracks me up.

Hell, I remember Kurt Angle's whole damn career.
