Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Just one? I guess that Rain Man would be mine. I have seen that movie 1000+ times, but I still love it. Great acting by Hoffman, and Cruise, plus the story was good. Honorable Mentions Forrest Gump, Se7en, and Spaceballs
Guest ShamRock Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Mine would be The Shawshank Redemption. Great acting by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. This would be probably Robbins' best movie that he has been in. The narration by Freeman was good too and a very good end. It had me wondering how he would escape. Great end, IMO.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Color of Money Reasons: -A deftly brilliant performance by the greatest actor who ever lived in Paul Newman. This and the Hustler are stand alone films, but it's so fascinating to just trace the character arc from one film to the other. He does so much with his tone of voice and the look in his eyes in this movie. -Tom Cruise's best performance to date as him being both cocky and dorky at the same time are the perfect blend for Vince's character. -A screenplay by my favorite screenwriter, Richard Price. It's finely nuianced with con and pool lingo while providing some cool one liners. -The direction of Martin Scorsese, why it has been knocked compared to his other films, is great in the montage sequences. The camera shots utilizing the reflection of the balls is a masterstroke. -It's about pool. -It has a killer soundtrack, including Standing on the Edge by B.B. King and Two Brothers and a Stranger by Dire Straits. Has a great sequence set to Werewolves of London too. -A break out performance by John Turturro when what could have easily been a throw away role. -I just overall like the story and construction of the film. It's a movie I can enjoy watching, but makes me think too.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Just one huh? HMMM. Ok, just of the top of my head, I would say Pulp Fiction. I love the acting in it (Travolta, Jackson, Kietel, Walken, Thurman, and Willis). I love the flow of the movie. One of the more influential movies to come out in the 90's. The dialogue is very quotable. I never get tired of watching it. Just an overall great film. Honorable Mention: The Godfather I and II, Good Fellas, Empire Strikes Back, Raging Bull, American Beauty, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Taxi Driver,
Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Se7en- Why? Just because it perfectly exemplifies what I htink a movie should be. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 2, 2003 If you ask me to make a top ten list, I can't do it. But for some reason I've always been able to name The Crow as my one favorite movie. It's the one movie I can watch over and over. If I was only allowed to have one movie for the rest of my life it'd be that movie. I just think it sums up everything in one movie. It's got drama, romance, action, revenge, kung fu, superhero, comedy, horror, suspense, it's violent, it's ugly, it's dark, it's beautiful. All the things I look for in movies are all meshed together perfectly in this one. There's nothing here I don't like. It will never make any top 100 greatest romance movies of all time lists or anything but it should. To me it's the most perfect romantic movie ever. Two people so in love that one of them comes back from the dead to destroy the evil people that ended their lives just so that they can be reunited in heaven. What's more romantic than that? Not Maid in Manhatten, that's for sure.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Taxi Driver Why: Best Directing ever, best acting ever, best lines ('You talkin to me?' 'If you wanna save your money then don't fuck her') best reveal shot ever (DeNiro with the mohawk), and everything just clicked perfectly.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Mine would be Ghostbusters. It had great special effects that even beat out the CGI used today in most cases (I still feel that the Slimer FX are more believable than ANYTHING from LOTR). The story is a piece of classic drama: the heroes are born through a problem, the heroes defeat part of the problem, the heroes have a great fall, and then the heroes succeed. The one-liner's in this movie are a mile-a-minute, as seemingly EVERY line is quoteable. The movie has also one major fact that separates it from nearly every other sci-fi/comedy/horror (it has elements of each, especially sci-fi and comedy) past the 1960's: the whole family can watch it and love it. Honestly, is there a person alive that has seen this movie and does not love it? The kids love it for the lasers and the ghosts, the teens love it for the VERY subtle sexual innuendo, and the adults love it because they can watch it with their teens and little ones. Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre The movie is essentially perfect in every way. I can't point to specific things and say I like it because of this or that, but metephorically speaking, it's like being hit by a train while you're freaked out on acid. And it's like that every time I watch it.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Moulin Rouge -Ewan McGregor who is THE MAN behind Colin Ferrel -Baz Lurhman and Craig Pierce are amazing storytellers -Extremely well crafted musical where the songs actually propel the story forward and reveal important things, AND ultimately make sense. -The fact that the movie mirrors Christian's play, and HOW THEY TIE IN TOGETHER. F'n beautiful. I love this movie.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Cool Hand Luke -Paul Newman in his prime. -George Kennedy's best performance ever. -"What we have here is a failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it, well, he gets it."...maybe the best promo in a movie ever. -and it's just a great story

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2003 I'd have to say Good Will Hunting. Great acting, the soundtrack mixes well with the grungy atmosphere, the story is simple yet very moving, and Affleck / Damon's screenplay helped motivate me to be a writer. Honorable mention to Braveheart and Office Space.
Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Reservoir Dogs hands down. -Great acting from Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen with solid bit parts from Chris Penn. -The opening scene...going from what "Like A Virgin" means to why Mr. Pink(Buscemi) doesn't tip and it doesn't lose the pace either. -Very quotable dialogue..."You gonna bark little doggy or are you gonna bite?" is one of the more infamous phrases to come from a movie. -Revolutionary filming style at the time from Quentin Tarantino. -The film made Tarantino and got him recognized as a superb director. -Great flow, great plot and great execution, especially considering the robbery/heist was never even shown. -Also the soundtrack fits great with the movie

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Full Metal Jacket. The scenes in camp totally make the movie, and make up for the war part in spades. I still enjoy watching the war scenes, but the first have of the movie smokes the second.

Guest Boromir's Smirking Revenge Report post Posted April 2, 2003 The Seven Samurai. Best Direction Ever. Period. Nothing can compare. Most elegantly paced film ever. It's like watching the greatest wrestling match ever. The build-up, development, and pay-off are perfectly executed. Perfectly. I wouldn't cut a scene if a gun were put to my head. Toshiro Mifune's performance is the reason why I bother to see movies in the first palce. Total high-wire work, appears chaotic, but expertly crafted in reality. Takashi Shimura's performance is essentially the template for all the stoic, wise action heros that would follow. The film just encompasses everything about life - the beautiful and horrible. This movie is the greatest thing to happen to human existence since orgasms.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 2, 2003 The Matrix is one of many movies that enjoy watching more than once. Why because it is nonstop action movie that incorporates several cliches that I like into one movie in a manner that is makes me say WOW. *Keanu Reeves as the Action Star in a anime style idiot savant to save the world *Hong Kong style Action of kung fu and guns blazing with unlimitless ammo *What is reality storyline *the soundtrack ruled

Avary is a genius and did a great job of transforming and updating the book to the modern day. the cinematography is breathtaking, the characters are believeable and it sums up the college lifestyle. the soundtrack is perfect , the women are amazingly attractive, james b=van der beek gives a very underrated perfrormance.. overall the movie is very honest, funny, sad and really speaks to you im a real big list guy and wanted to put it at #1 after seeing it opening night in the theater but didnt want to make that judgement being so clouded from just seeing it for the 1st time but after buying the dvd and multiple viewings, I feel OK about cememnting it as numero uno
