I had drank way too much liquor and done way too much drugs at way too young of an age, and realized that it was killing me. After a few years of sobriety I chose to start drinking (etc.) again. Many of my friends are still straight edge though. And I can't understand all the straight edge hate on this board. Why the FUCK do you guys care if someone else doesn't drink or do drugs? As long as they're not preaching about it (which I haven't noticed on this board) and not being the ultraviolent pricks in SLC that were attacking people as they were leaving bars ... who the fuck cares what they do or don't do? I'd say it's closer to 60-40 in favour of non-retard sXe kids, but I totally distance myself from the whole "scene" (which I guess is easier to do here in the UK anyway) as for the most part it seems to be a whole load of bullshit fractious one-upmanship. I haven't been sXe for very long but due to my severe prickitude when drunk it was bordering on necessity to give up the sauce. No way in hell am I ever going to become a preachy "AAIEEEEEEE!!! I'm 22 and I got drunk for the first time 3 weeks ago. Prior to that I had about 4 beers in my entire life. I'm pretty much a straight edge 90% of the time. And I've met a lot. My roommate is straight edge. Has been for about seven years. Is always our designated driver. Knows that I'll smoke pot when we go to shows. And drink beers when we go to hockey games. And even went and got my beers for me when I only had a temporary license, and the bitch behind the counter wouldn't sell to me. And has never once tried to dissuade me from drinking or smoking up. Sounds to me like the people that were preaching at you were assholes regardless if they were sXe or not. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 6, 2003 I had a friend back in Cali who was very strong about beliefs about being sXe, he didn't even drink caffeine or anything. Which I couldn't deal with, I drink way too much soda and occasionally espresso and frappucino. He's learned however, dealign with the people I was hanging out with, it's best not to say anything but he will freely debate with you if you question his beliefs. He does it in a way that is a positive representation of sXe, though which is a problem some straight edgers have, that it's like "we're mad at you for being mad at us" mentality. Frequently, it's that attitude that gives sXe's their preachy image. I'd say the best way to be something that is not at large with the majority..such as myself being agnostic and socialist...is to not really make it so it becomes like a gimmick of yours, but more or less like it's an aspect of your multi dimensional personality. A lot of the new sXe'rs are confused teens or young adults who are still searching for an identity they never quite obtained in high school. That's not to say all of them are, however, such as my friend back in Cali. All that beign said, I've done enough alcohol, drugs, and smoked, and too much caffeeine, and generalyl just a lot of violations of the straight edge code to even consider it a lfiestyle for myself. I can see the points towards not wanting to put any chemicals into your body and the cliche that goes "you only get one body why fuck it up", but I counter that with another saying I've seen a bit more rare.."Eat well, stay fit, die anyways" In conclusion, why limit yourself to the fun you can have with your body as long as you possess or can obtain the willpower/common sense to combat an addiction. If you ask me it reeks of a church thing. And as for no sex and no jerking off, well, fuck that shit. ps - also, no one has every tried to get me to drink/smoke. My friends know I don't, I know they do, and nobody gives two fucks. Personally, I think as long as we have Adult Swim, RoH, and Dynasty Warriors 3, every man on earth is my brother. Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted April 10, 2003 I day rarely goes by when I don't drink, I'm slowing down because before today I've awoken to find a drawer full of clothes coated with urine, (that's er, happened twice now...) Been informed I threw all over the (insert room here) without remembering a fucking thing and realised during one drinking session (12hrs) I must have spent around £65 and to be honest it scares the fucking shit out of me. I can handle drink perfectly alright, but the problem is I'm not drunk till I'm drunk, if you see what I mean.
