I meant offensive as in SO bad, and I thought you were defending Linkin Park for a second there. Heh.

Defending Linking Park.

Please, when someone holds a gun to my head.

There is plenty of good, and great music out there. In terms of talent, style, and ablity.

It's just the mainstream doesnt like it, people are as a generalisation to fucking stupid to understand it, and people think it won't sell.

Trouble is, with the good stuff being underground, it's what the elitest like, so that puts less "totally engrossed" shall we say, music lovers off.

And there is plenty of kick as stuff that isn't blinding technical or extreme.

You just have a take a few recommendations, download some MP3s, and make up your own mind.

Because, at the end of the day, if you're willing to at least listen to the recommendations, and mkae up your mind from what you hear, what more could someone ask?

I agree, were we having an argument or not? I can't tell.

With the newer additions, there's not really a whole lot that would coax me in there either, I've never seen the Libertines as 'great'. Live last year and on Jools Holland they were plain terrible. Still, if I have cash nearer to the date and enough people go, I'll probably go anyway just to get wasted.

I don't think we where, I was just making sure I wasn't coming across as too elitest.

I think it was one of these rare friendly, exchanges of views over the net.

Let's try and keep going with it, it's good.

I'd rather spend money on Bloodstock, or if I had the resocures, get myself over to Germany for Waken Open Air.

Hey Linkin Park is growing on me. I can see why people don't like them, but from what I've heard they create a good atmosphere at their live shows.

They kind of give a middle ground for those who aren't completely into rap, metal, or dance. And while you might not like it, and that is perfectly fine!, it's something good for those who are looking for something else.

Nu Metal =/= Metal

Nu Metal = Alt. Rock with TINY metal influences and an X Factor (rarely ever metal)

I, perosnally don't like them because: No intelligent lyrics, no musical skill, eg no solos, no power to the sound, I find the music boring.

I could handle Linkin Park if the rapping dude had some sort of flow. As it is, it doesn't hold a candle to good rap or good metal. To The End was pretty swank tho.

PS, How can anyone not love the Libertines. They had a fight onstage last year (after all their stuff broke down), they talk like they're in a Carry On film and their last song had the line "Wombles bleed" in it. FUCKING A!

Don't forget that one of the Libertines' songs contains the words "what a divvy, what a fucking div." The use of the word divvy guarantees good band status.

Okay. One thing I need to do really quick....

MARS FUCKING VOLTA!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Okay. With THAT out of the way....

I don't really know what to think. The good and bad are very even. So, because I'm lazy, I'm going to give my thoughts on those I know.

Metallica can retire, for all I care. didn't like 'em much to begin with.

I've lost a lot of respect for SOAD lately. Mainly because of the Boom video.

Linkin Park needs to stop vocally whining. Period. If squeakers can tone his voice down a little, they'll be good.

Blink 182. A disgrace to the SoCal Music Scene. NEXT!!

Blur...I'm not sure what to think of them, really. Havent heard enough.

White Stripes are alright. They have good songs and bad songs. As do a lot of bands. And the lack of bass sorta bugs me, but hey.

Sum 41....iffy. Half/half feelings on them. I respect them for at least maturing a little musically, but it's still not anything special.

I have mixed feelings for Beck as well, but admiration to go with it. I'm impressed at how varied his albums can be.

The Streets is what the rap genre has needed. A good firm kick in the gut. Because it's not the typical "My name is joe, I flunked preschool, now I have more money than you'll ever have" stuff, and that's good. And it's not too in-your-face either.

Elbow intrigues me greatly. I've heard one song of theirs and I became interested. Unfortunately, LimeWire sucks.

The Music has REALLY made a good impression on me. They're old fashioned rock, and yet maintain their own sound.

Courtney Love needs to eat a grenade. 'nuff said.

Good Charlotte. Blink's heir. NEXT!!

I've only stumbled upon AFI by my friends. Boy, am I glad I did. The production values and talent of AFI is incredible.

MARS FUCKING VOLTA!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Havent heard of any of the other peoples. ^^; Check out Mars Volta. They're worth the effort. "Cut That City", "Concertina", and "Eunuch Provacaetur" are AWESOME songs.

Some nu-metal bands still use solos and it really depends on the band as far as lyrics.

I have no problem with Linkin Park's lyrics. You have a whole slew of teens out there with overflowing emotions....why not play to it? I love the lyrics to "Crawling".

The problem with nu-metal as a whole is most of it sounds the same. You just have to pick out the few that sound good.

Ok, there is the RARE solo in Nu Metal, that point has to be taken. Heck there's some stuff about an MP3 going round of a Bass Solo from Distrubted's Bassist, can't prove it's him, but still.

But it anit got shit on Myung's work either.

Scary thing is, after listening to Mudvayne's first album, if they had/used more musical skill, they'd be getting towards some low level form of Prog.

Odd, how I still don't love the libertines. Trust me, live they were awful, but if you like em, whatever.

I agree about mudvayne, the singer is awful but in time they might actually get quite good, I love some of the rhythm stuff. As it is, they take themselves a little too seriously and are only tolerable for half the time. I haven't heard the new CD though, it's better I gather.

I guess it depends on what is considered "Nu-Metal"

I'm still not sure on what all bands are in that genre.

Nu Metal = Alt. Rock + Tiny Metal Influences + X Factor (Which can be any genre, but always from the poor, low end of it)

It is mainly Alt. Rock, then some X Factor, then in the smallest ammounts, Metal.

Common traits are: Low technicality, mid tempos, lack of solos, drop d tunings, simple power chord riffs, all purpose drum beats and angsty lyrical content.

Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Link Park, etc are all Nu Metal to a T.

Limp Bizkit are not Nu-Metal anymore.

Their first album was Nu-Metal. The second was Rap-Rock. The Third was just straight up Pop-Rock.

Limp Bizkit or limpbizkit as they now call themselves, and by they I mean Fred Durst, are officially Shitty-Crap-Wannabe-Rock-Metal.

They are in a shitness all on their own.

Slipknot, Linkin Park, Korn and the rest are gods of Metal, in comparison to limp Bizkit/limpbizkit/Fred Durst's Ego Trip Band From Untalented Hell.

Nu Metal is the genre. Mallcore is the derrogatory term for pre-packaged teen/child-orientated rock

I thought Jay-Z said he was doing it months ago. Oh well. He's another, who I don't hate, but would just not pay to see. Oh and what a surprise, Finch. Emo Screamo. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

oh great Jay Z, whats he doing playing a festival like Reading, i'd be more down with them getting a real poppy act for Sunday so we can boo them and chuck stuff at them. They should get like girls aloud to play, that would rule.

Who cares, since when did Reading/Leeds still have any credibility as a rock festival?

Yes, I will enjoy my kick ass 40 minute song that was a land mark, and the band showing why they rule so much.

*Hits play on Crimson*

40 minutes? Jesus. That's 39 minutes and 20 seconds too long.

Boo-urns to the White Stripes pulling out. I have to work that week-end so balls to it. Only act I really wanted to see was Squarepusher and I'm sure I'll catch him another time.

I like Linkin Park, Blink 182, Blur, The White Stripes, System Of A Down, Sum 41, Placebo, Good Charlotte, The Polyphonic Spree, The Datsuns, AFI, The Mars Volta, Hundred Reasons and The Cooper Temple Clause.

I don't really like any of the others.

"INTERPOL, ELECTRIC SIX, THE LIBERTINES, PRIMAL SCREAM and this week's NME cover stars HOT HOT HEAT are the latest additions to this year's THE CARLING WEEKEND: READING AND LEEDS festivals"

Besides the Electric Six, I don't really like any of those.
