The Herald Sun reports, via Moviehole, that plans are underway for Jean-Claude Van Damme to star in the follow-up to 1994's Street Fighter, based on the populer game.

The Muscles from Brussels has been in talks with talent all week, hoping to lock in an ensemble soon.

Australian singer, Holly Valance, has been in talks with Van Damme this week about co-starring in the movie. She would replace fellow singer, Kylie Minogue, who starred in the original. Van Damme is said to have been impressed by Valance - who can apparently kickbox - but according to The Herald Sun the filmmmakers will still be auditioning other actors up until the last minute.

The original film was based on the classic video game, with Van Damme in the lead role and Raul Julia playing the film's main villain.

It's not yet known whether "Streetfighter 2" will be filmed in Australia - as the first one was - but it is projected that it'll get a theatrical release.

Well, for Jean - Claude Van Damme, desperate times call for desperate measures...

I mean, I have no problem with this.

BUT! I need a better cast and a better director, man...

Why can't you people recognize classic cinema? Street Fighter is a good bad movie.

Oh crap..another Street Fighter movie? No video game movie will ever suck as much as the second Mortal Kombat movie. (Shudder)

I don't know how this is going to work...

Jean - Claude isn't a draw anymore.

His last theatrical movie was Universal Solider(It was decent) but thought that Goldberg was going to bring in the big bucks.

Maybe this time they can hire real fighters and stunt crew to direct the fights scenes in a proper HK style.

It could get worst like what if Jamie Kennedy was Charlie.

Dude, Kylie was good as Cammy, actually....

And a second Street Fighter Movie....god, have we sunk so low?

How is Raul Julia going to play Bison again, as the report states? He's dead!

OK folks because I'm a glutton for bad movies and I KNOW you are too, this gets a bump back up top with fresh news on the sequel everyone's been waiting for. Found at IGN here.

Basically says that plans are still going ahead with JCVD to "star" in it, contacted Holly Valance to take on the role of Cammy (one Aussie pop star for another I guess), Damian Chapa to be back as Ken and the big news:

Dolph Lundgren MAY come out of retirement to play the bad guy!

At last, together again! Universal Soldier's cinematic impact will be felt throughout the ages I tell you!

BTW I'm still waiting for some Kylie as Cammy pics Kotzen! :P

This movie will need a big name Hong Kong actor or director to get me to the theater.

My guess is that it'd go Direct-to-Video, as has the last three or four Van Damme films. It probably won't be anything special, but not the worst either?

Dolph retired? Damn. He became a B-Film staple up until then.

That's where Raul Julia is mentioned. And as you can clearly see, it's referring to the original movie.

Jean Claude was never much of a box office draw.

Universal Soldier: The Return was the movie with Goldberg in it.

Yes, the first was bad. Terrible, in fact. But I think it was the good kind of bad, as mentioned.

And they should just have Akuma as the villain.

Dolph is actually really really smart (140 IQ sound high? I'm not sure how it works....) He came to the USA to study Math or something, and just took up acting as a challange...

visits IMDB.com:

Dolph Lundgren attended the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He received a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1982, and the next year was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT. Dolph Lundgren is living proof that brains and brawn do go together. Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Lundgren attended the Royal Institute of Technology. Spending time abroad in the United States on various academic scholarships, he attended Washington State University and Clemson in South Carolina. In 1982, he received a scholarship to complete his Masters degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sydney in Australia. The following year, he was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship to the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While on his way to Boston to continue his studies, he stopped to New York City and there his life took a radical turn. While working at the trendy Limelight Disco along side actor Chazz Palminteri, Lundgren met with noted drama coach Warren Robertson, and decided to give acting a try. Lundgren made his feature film debut in the James Bond movie A View to a Kill (1985), which co-starred his then lover Grace Jones. Then he beat out 5000 other hopefuls to land the breakthrough role of Ivan Drago, Sylvester Stallone's opponent in Rocky IV (1985). The success of this film led Lundgren to star in numerous films including Masters of the Universe (1987), The Punisher (1989), Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991) opposite the late Brandon Lee, Universal Soldier (1992) and Johnny Mnemonic (1995). In 1993, he starred in Pentathlon (1994), an action-drama which he also produced under his own production company, Thor Pictures (also known as Red Orm Productions). While most his films tend to typecast him as a bicep-bulging hero, Lundgren is also a founding member of "Group of Eight," a New York theater group started in 1994 which performed "Another Octopus". A world-class athlete, Lundgren took up martial arts at 14 and has achieved his third degree black belt). His accomplishments in the sport include being the captain of the Swedish full-contact karate team and the winner of the European Heavyweight Full-Contact Karate Championship in 1980 and 1981, as well as the Australian heavyweight division title in 1982. Lundgren's lifelong interest in physical fitness led to his 1987 workout video called Maximum Potential. In addition to his karate expertise, Lundgren was selected to serve as the Team Leader of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Pentathlon Team. He is married to Annette Qviberg Lundgren, a jewelry designer and fashion stylist. The couple divide their time between New York City and Stockholm, Sweden. Their daughter Ida was born in April, 1996.

Alan Rickman would be the best Bison, but of course he'd never do it.
