New Incubus Deal

Here is what gets me:

"Incubus signed a seven-album deal with Sony-affiliated Immortal Records in 1996 and has sold more than 7 million albums. Sources estimated that the band's recordings have netted Sony $35 million in profit, while the band had received only a little more than $4 million in advances, and no royalty payments."

$35 million profit for Sony and no royalty payment to the band. What a joke.

That's pretty screwed up, considering how outright popular they've become (around here, at least).

Goddman I love Incubus, but they are fast becoming a joke. Not on Limp Bizkit levels, but the band is arguing within itself. Dirk Lance leaving sucked. They are still locked in this money/album deal issue with Sony, and their material has become progressively sound-like-everything-else.

This is why the RIAA sucks. They get rich, while the artists make peanuts, then they cry about how much money the artists are losing to piracy.

Bah. I'll never buy a CD again. Knowing I'm taking a goddamn dime from someone isn't exactly enough motivation to stop me.

You you don't pay for the music at least support them in concert. That's were bands make most of there living.

I know. That's why I still go to concerts.

If bands got rid of the RIAA completely and offered their albums for download off their own websites, I'd be all into it. Since they'd be the ones getting all the money, they could charge $5 to download the album. I would definitely do that, since the artist is the one getting the money (minus technical expenses, of cource), not some faceless conglamerate.

My views on Incubus can be best summed up with a quote from the singer from Miocene... "Incubus used to be one of the best bands in the world and now they just sound like total fucking COCK."
