NHL-

The first round is just so exciting and blows the NBA first round out of the water.

Plus- the NBA doesn't have multiple OT games that can go on forever and leave the viewer emotionally exhausted.

The Stanley Cup is so much cooler then the NBA Title trophy.

Oh and the NHL rounds don't take forever to complete unlike in the NBA

I'm voting NHL, simply because you hear people say, "I only watch hockey in the playoffs" more often then you hear someone say that about basketball. There's nothing quite like playoff hockey, and the first round is probably my favourite time of the year.

NBA. I can watch every single game of the NBA playoffs, I've never watched a single game of NHL playoffs ever. I just don't care once my team is gone.

I will say NHL, if only because I HATE the fact that the first round of the NBA playoffs seemed to take 80 years last year.

NBA, although I'd like it noted, for the record, that I'd probably watch the NHL if it's season didn't entirely overlap the NBA's.

That said, basketball owns hockey, IMO. Could be a cultural thing...

The NHL playoffs seem to go on forever as well. I'll take basketball, because I'm more familiar with the players and teams.

The games in the NHL playoffs are so much more exciting and blow the NBA out of the water.

When a game goes into OT it's 20 minutes of commercial free penalty free just all out hockey which doesn't occur in the NBA.

In the NHL playoffs you see goalies making spectacular inhuman saves all in the name of winning the Stanley Cup.

The NBA Finals start way too late. They start the games 9:30 so I always lose interest in them by the time they start. At least the NHL starts their finals at 8 which is a reasonable time.

NHL, definitely. I never get pumped up for any NBA games, or at least since the league went down the crapper in about 1996. I was jumping up and down for Giguere and the Ducks when they put the OT goal home in game four (at 12:30am central time), and I'm not a Ducks fan!

I've tries getting into Hockey numerous times over the years but never could, same thing with Soccer. Although my passion for sports as gone down over recent years and I haven't followed regular seasons all that much I will watch the playoffs especially the NBA when the Sac Kings are involved or MLB when the Oak A's ar involved as they have been "my teams" since childhood and are the most exciting teams anyway.

(Overall)

1. NBA

2. NFL

3. MLB

4. NHL

NHL hands down.

With the NBA you can almost always tell who's going to win the damned thing, if only because of which team is getting the verbal blowjob from the media.

With the NHL, you never know who's going to win, even when a series is 3-0 and the losing team is down a goal with less than a minute left in game 4.

Besides, touching a guy in the NBA is a foul, while your penalty for beating the shit out of a guy with a crooked stick is sitting down for two minutes.

NHL for me.

I agree- basketball sucks now. No one seems to play defence, everyone walks and too many teams are one-player oriented.

During the hockey playoffs I try to catch every game because you never know which game will go into OT or be fantastic. In basketball- once the Nets are gone- I quit watching.

And when Anaheim won- I was going crazy. And I don't even like them

The Stanley Cup trophy presentation owns all. Is there any other sport where they present the trophy on the playing surface, in front of the fans, AND allow the winning players a victory lap with it? I think not.

And there is nothing more heart-wrenching than sudden-death overtime. What else could cause people (ok... me) to listen to a game on streaming audio for 5 fricking hours?

ESPN also had a 6-question survey regarding the NBA vs the NHL. I think the NBA was leading in 2 of the categories - "star" power and dunks vs slapshots - which I think is pretty much right on.

Even though I've been watching the NBA longer (since the 1991 NBA Finals I believe) I gotta say the NHL playoffs. It's so damn fun to sit and watch an NHL Playoff game, they usually deliver in terms delivering a great game.

In all reality though, both hockey and basketball fucking rule!

I think that will be different this year. There playing 7 games serious so they don't have to spread out the games like they used do.

Something I'd change in both sports is make the first round best of 5 with the same days rest. Obviously that won't happen because the NHL makes its money from ticket sales.

I chalk that up to the likely cultural demographic of TSM.

I think that sums up my argument pretty well. I still LOVE college basketball and high school hoops, but the NBA is worthless to me.

NBA for me. Namely because any game that ends in 3-2 cannot be exciting for me. And I've had hockey explained to me on numerous occasions and it STILL looks like a bunch of drunk assholes skating around and punching each other on occasion.

I have to go with the NBA playoffs. I just can't get into hockey. It is great that there is a chance for upsets in the NHL, I will give it that. But I rather see more scoring than a 3-2 type game. I also like that with the NBA you are seeing some of the best athletes in the world compete. Give me a ally-oop dunk. Give me a 3 on 1 break being broken up. I was able to watch the Kings-Utah game, and there was great drama as the heavily favored Kings were pushed by an underdog Jazz. I enjoy NBA dog fights more than the NHL. I also like in the NBA that one team can win on a shot at the buzzer as displayed in the Suns-Spurs game.

Considering this went from just playoffs, to everyone talking about sports in general, I find watching sports on TV these days just plain boring overall.

With the NHL, it's that the trap is pretty much the prevailent defense of style and I hate it. Especially when two teams both play it. Cause they play for the single goal win.

With the NBA, it's that there is no defense anymore. If a guy has a lane and chance to make a basket or a dunk, they usually get it off without a hitch.

With the NFL, it's that you pretty boring how long it takes to make plays and all the bloody commercials. Distracts from the plays.

With the MLB, it's that you know who's making it or not into the playoffs with only 80 games played, and yes, I know things can change in an instant but when do they? If a team needs to make 20+ wins to make an extrodinary race for the wild card, it rarely happens.

With the PGA, it's the fact that nothing is really hyped. Shit, the only thing that has gotten me excited for the PGA was when I found out that Weir would have a chance to the win the Master's in the last round. Now, it doesn't bore me, but it hasn't made me wanna be interested either.

These things have been hindering me from seriously enjoying any of these sports. I'd add others, but these are the more known ones.

As for which of NHL or NBA I picked? I picked NHL as this is a question more related to who has the better playoffs and frankly, I feel the NHL has better playoffs. This is because most of the time, feuds have been built between two teams (Dallas vs Oilers Part God Knows How Many Times) and it makes it enjoyable as hell. With the NBA, I rarely see a good fashioned playoff rivalry built.

I also like that with the NBA you are seeing some of the best athletes in the world compete.

But from 1979 to 1999, you saw THE best athlete in the world compete.
