The Dames 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2003 Alright...I want to get high speed internet. I keep hearing that a cable modem is the way to go, but I have an illegal cable box. Does anyone here have an illegal box AND have a cable modem attached to it? Dames
Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted April 25, 2003 I have a friend who does that. He has Optimum Online, and he has 2 Hot Boxes in his house. My guess is.....you can do this.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted April 25, 2003 Not if there is a filter. And the fact that the modem will have to be provisioned.
Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted April 25, 2003 I heard you wouldn't be able to do it because they need to monitor the cable modem. That's why I had to get DSL instead.

Guest El Gigante Report post Posted April 25, 2003 My friend has an illegal cable box and a cable modem hooked up. I think you have to have the modem and the cable box hooked up to two different cable outlets in order to have it work. I'm not sure about this but thats how he has it and it works fine. Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 25, 2003 What people have done in MD is just get cable internet without any cable TV package. It costs more that way, but since the signal can't be cut off in the lines, you can still split the wire to a black box and have a cable signal. I know a few people that's worked for, and they've never had one whiff of a problem.
Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted April 25, 2003 Dammit! You got DSL? Dames Yeah I ordered it already. I didn't want to go through the hassle of working around getting cable modem so I said screw it and got the DSL instead.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted April 25, 2003 They just haven't been audited yet. They will be. I love it when we catch people with illegal hookups. Comcast is not friendly. BWAHAHAHAHA!
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted April 25, 2003 I live too far out to get Cable or DSL. Thats why Im stuck with 21.6 k or less (19.2 right now)..telephone lines are like 70 years old and damn them for still working. As long as they work the phone company won't replace them for free. Im waiting for that thing they were showing that allows the transmission of broadband internet over power lines. I might have a shot with that..

I don't live in the "country" but the street I live on is a sort of unique location so there is no hookups for Cable or Cable modems.(I have satellite). I think I could do DSL, but I am not sure. What happens if you do get caught? I remember around here, Cablevision used to run constant ads about stealing cable, and how it would get people in huge trouble. Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 27, 2003 Can't you get jail time? Of course. It's a felony. The maximum fine is pretty steep, too.
Guest EQ Report post Posted April 28, 2003 Wow. That seems a little severe for someone who just wants to get HBO or PPV for free.
