Guest mach7 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Why the hell are we talking about Matrix Reloaded? Although it ain't gonna shatter any records, X-Men 2 comes out Friday. Can't wait to see the comic butchered even further, huh?
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I pity X2 because within the span of one week EVERYBODY is gonna forget about it it will never see a #1 Box Office title again.
Guest Urine Sane Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I can't believe it will be rated R. Every horror movie these days is edited down to a PG-13 rating so it can make extra cash, yet they go with R for a huge movie like Matrix Reloaded? Not that I'm complaing, it just seems weird. It's because most horror movies aren't high profile enough, and don't have the drawing power of a film like this. Plus horror movies are date movies, so they need to be PG-13 (If I made a horror movie it would be rated R). Anyway, The Matrix could be rated NC-17 and it would still kill at the box office, the hype for this movie is like nothing I've seen before. The reason being, is because it actually looks like it could out-do the first one, and isn't just thrown together for a quick cash-in.

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 29, 2003 (edited) I'm thinking that the Matrix Reloaded will probably do better than Strangeland. Edited April 30, 2003 by Lethargic
Guest mach7 Report post Posted April 30, 2003 I don't get the Keanu hate. I think he's ok. Dude, when the only line he can deliver with any semblance of feeling is the word "Woah," then I think there's a pretty good reason for Keanu-hate. No matter how many times he plays Neo, he'll always be Bill, or Ted... I can't remember which! ;p

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted May 1, 2003 I don't know how much it will make (because ticket prices have gone up quite a bit around here in the past year), but I do think it will be the hit of the summer. If any movie can beat it out, its Hulk.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Fuck This "Oooh Look at our Unrealistic Special Effects and shoddy storylines"... If there is a God...It Bombs. The fact people have been creaming for Kenau Reeves is downright SICKENING! I know a couple people already commented on this, but that has to be one of the most retarded things I have read in a long time. The special effects in a computer generated world within a sci-fi movie are unrealistic? DEAR GOD NO! My prediction is a 100 mil opening weekend (remember it is a 4 day weekend, opening on a Thursday), 160 mil after 2 weeks. BTW, Am I the only one who thinks the Hulk is going to be a bomb? I think it will limp to the 100 mil mark kind of like the Scorpion King, but that number would have to be considered a big disappointment. I just don't think the Hulk is a strong enough franchise to be huge
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Hulk is very well known among the non-comic crowd, probably fourth or fifth after Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and possibly Wonder Woman. He's not nearly as popular among fans as say X-Men, but he is more well known and I seriously expect his movie to do better than X2. Daredevil limped to the 100 M mark, but he was a virtual unknown. None of my friends or family had even heard of him before the movie came out. Hulk has a lot of exposure over the years, and I will be shocked at this point for it not to do a hell of a lot better than that. Unless, of course, the film is terrible and word of mouth kills it. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Daredevil at least had names to draw in a crowd, the biggest name in The Hulk is Jennifer Connolly who doesn't seem to be the right type of name to bring in an audience for this genre.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Daredevil at least had names to draw in a crowd, the biggest name in The Hulk is Jennifer Connolly who doesn't seem to be the right type of name to bring in an audience for this genre. Ben Affleck is a pretty big name for some reason, but he isn't the type of actor people will pay to see just because he's in the film (unlike say Tom Hanks). Many people had just thought the character was made up to capitalize on Spider-Man's success. I had to tell several people that he was an actual Marvel character that has been around for decades. I should add that Spider-Man didn't have any big names either. For movies like this, the name-value of the character is far greater than the name value of anybody they could hire in the role. The Hulk character is a far bigger name than Ben Affleck is. Daredevil had other known actors, but Affleck was the only big star in the bunch. Garner had Alias, Duncan was in Scorpion King of all things (and would not be known at all if not for Green Mile), and Farrell was best known as that guy from Minority Report. Nick Nolte & Jennifer Connely are much better known than those three are. Hulk also has a larger advertising campaign and more toys than Daredevil did. It also comes out in June rather than the week of the largest snowstorm in 5 years. It should do twice Daredevil easily, and I still think it will do better than X-Men. T3 will be the flop of the summer. It could end up being good, but it has such a negative buzz among the public right now that they might not go see it regardless. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Daredevil was miscast from the word go. I dislike the Ben Affleck/Matt Damon overexposure phenomenon and I think he is a middle-to-below average actor who brought NOTHING to the role. And while Jennifer Garner is a gorgeous girl, I thought the part of Elektra was all wrong for her in that her playing a martial artist of greek descent should have been played by someone with a little ethnicity, not someone as lovably white bread as Garner. They basically played it safe and went with bankable stars rather than actors who could have some better with the roles. Perhaps it was the script, but I doubt it. I'm intrigued by the Hulk, and like with X-Men, the story is going to make or break this film. I'm going to see Matrix Reloaded, as I really liked the first movie. It was innovative, and is a good mind trip. People are going to like and dislike what they will. One man's garbage, and all that.
Guest Lil Naitch Report post Posted May 1, 2003 I think that all the money will come from repeated viewings. Most people will probably see it more than once in the theaters, especially after it hits IMAX. The IMAX in St. Louis is at our Science Center, so I don't know if it will show it, but if it does that I'm THERE. And I plan on seeing it opening weekend. I knew of Daredevil. I just thought that he was such a minority in the Marvel universe, and frankly I was SHOCKED when I saw the posters advertising a Daredevil movie. I knew of the backstory, but I never read the books and I didn't think that it had a large enough audience for a movie. That being said, I haven't heard anything about The Hulk up untill recently, and frankly I always grouped Huld with Daredevil in the books that have an audience, but not a large enough audience to make a movie. Frankly, I just think that after the moderate success of X-Men, and the MAJOR sucess of Spiderman, the studios decided that comics were big bucks movies and started cranking them out. Hell, The PUNISHER is even getting a new movie, and what the frick has he been doing recently?
Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 1, 2003 Yeah that's another thing to consider...that this will be the first movie ever simultaneously released on regular screens and on IMAX. Not sure how that will effect the box office.

Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 3, 2003 Just got back from X2, the Matrix trailer got a great reaction...and it played last. I actually heard a group of about 10 guys saying Matrix Matrix at the beginning of every trailer hoping to see it. Now that X2 is out the hype begins... Guest HHH123007 Report post Posted May 4, 2003 100 million on opening weekend(or the first 3 days, it comes out on a Thursday). If X2 can make 33.9 alone on a Friday, so can The Matrix Reloaded. FYI, I won't be adding to the B.O., I'm seeing it on Wednesday, May 14th.....that money more than likely won't go toward the picture's total gross...

Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 6, 2003 Ok, X-Men made 85 million. Does Matrix beat that? I say no, but it will have a higher overall box office.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted May 6, 2003 Our Imax theater plays a lot of new release movies when they first come out, so I don't see the big deal. I saw Final Fantasy on Imax the first day it was released and it kicked ass. Seeing it regular later on was a huge let down. They also did it with the Star Wars and Rings movies. Yes, and while I still maintain the fact that I'd wish they'd stick to the comic as far as characters and storylines go.. I did change my tune on the movie: http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...&t=31368&st=

Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 14, 2003 Indeed they do. And I have two passes, won from a radio station, for an advance screening tonight. I was going to catch a midnight showing tomorrow night anyway, so this just moves things up a day and lets me get another couple hours of sleep. Expect a review tomorrow, loyal readers!
