One and Only NWA:TNA Week 42 Thread

Exactly.............instead we have people refusing to give TNA another chance because of one finish, a finish might I add that didn't bury Raven or anything, in fact he looked great in there with Jarrett. Cmon guys, that is some ridiculous shit to get THIS pissed at such a small point which will almost certainly be rectified in no time.

Uhm, WHAT? Raven and co. beat the shit out of Jarrett. The worst Raven took was one Stroke and the table thing... and then another Stroke pins him? After Jarrett survived TWO Evenflows, the stereo superkick Con-Chair-To, the drop-toe-hold into the chair, and so much more? Raven looked weak and it looked like that even with SIX PEOPLE aiding him, he can't beat Jarrett.

Give me a break, if you cant see that Raven came off looking credible in that match, you're blind. You're missing that as much as Jarrett was attacked by others, Raven got jumped by Sabu as well, etc. BOTH guys got the shit beat out of them, both got to kick out of each others finishers (Jarett kicked out of ONE evenflow, not two).....

If you think he looked weak, I'd suggest watching the match again.

On NWA or WWA? And still, I couldn't care less. Maybe others would, but I never liked Sting, and I sure as hell don't give a fuck about Jarrett when it comes to his character. He's boring as champ! He defends once every two months (Yes, twice this month, I'll admit, but NOTHING in March or January, if memory serves) and his character is that of... well, some random guy. Jarrett with the belt is lame, as opposed to Jarrett chasing the belt, which is perfectly good.

I respectfully disagree RedJed. Everyone wanted to see the title change tonight after months of hype, it should have happened. All the wind is now out of the sails. A rematch only works if its Jarret chasing Raven to get it back.

Exactly. There will be no hype leading into the rematch, I can guarentee you that, RedJed.

I agree with Gosunkugi. Although I have always been a fan of Jarret, they blew it tonight.

And yeah Sting vs. Jarret is a one time thing for the WWA PPV is May.

EDIT: I just got to thinking, could that be why Jarret retained? They wanted to do title vs. title but if Jarret wasnt champ they couldnt do it. They couldnt have let WWA influence their booking in TNA, could they?

Well if Jarrett won maybe I'm not so upset that I missed this week's show. All I wanted was to see Raven win.

Time will tell...........I think they have a plan to have Raven win next week and then build him up intensely for two weeks thereafter into a match with Jarrett. Again, we'll just see.

This is what I still dont get though, you guys hate Jarrett as champ, yet you WANT to see him be chasing the belt again, even winning it down the road?

Then I guess I'm fucking blind.

You're missing that as much as Jarrett was attacked by others, Raven got jumped by Sabu as well, etc.

Raven fell victim to ONE Air Sabu, TWO chairshots, and THAT'S IT. Jarrett was BEATEN TO FUCKING NEAR-DEATH by The Sandman, Justin Credible, New Jack, Perry Saturn, Alexis Laree, Julio, and RAVEN collectively during the match. If Sabu's interference was a car crash, then the Team Extreme interference was a fucking battlefield.

BOTH guys got the shit beat out of them, both got to kick out of each others finishers (Jarett kicked out of ONE evenflow, not two).....

Watch it again. Jarrett kicked out of the Evenflow about 5-7 minutes in, AND near the end of the match. And Raven got the shit beat out of him? That's funny, because I don't seem to remember Raven being the one THAT HAD SEVEN PEOPLE BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF HIM. Raven's "beating" was a fucking PUSH compared to Jarrett'.s

If you think he looked weak, I'd suggest watching the match again.

I fully plan on watching it again, because it was a good match. However, Raven looked almost as weak, if not weaker, than Booker T did at WM against HHH.

RedJed has a good fucking point. Maybe they did blow the chance at a big payday or national exposure. But how in the hell do you know that Russo and Jarrett dont have a cage match for the world title 3 or 4 weeks from now. Right now Jarrett is the most selfish guy in the world. When Raven beats him you will be on his dick saying he is so unselfish and the WWF (ie. HHH) needs to learn from him. I think that they will go with a good ol' fashion cage, loser retires match with Raven going over. Lets see how you react after and if that match happens.

And dont get it twisted, Im not happy he won, but you gotta look at it from both perspectives. He is nothing like Triple H. Triple H has dropped the belt once and has said "Nash is the only person im gonna lose the belt to." He has also had every single one of his match look like trash and has never put over his opponents. When Jarrett feuded with Styles, Styles was looked at as a legit contender. He didn't win, but wasn't he put over during his collision with Jarrett? Did Raven look like a mill...fuck that, a trillion bucks during this build up. Remember, BUILD UP. The build up to the big match. Not the build up to the ending. No doubt Jarrett is going to come out and say "I beat the odds" and blah blah, then Raven is gonna get tired of his gloating and challenge him to a rematch. I wonder how you guys acted when Foley lost his match at Rock Bottom, or Austin lost the Rumble in 1999. Or when Foley lost to Rock at the Rumble 99. Just wait, or try to. That's the problem with the WWF. They end their feuds too early. The last time they had a long feud was probably Triple H/Foley in 2000.

I can't believe people are upset because there wasn't a title change. Before

Russo era WWF, title changes, especially world title changes, were a very rare

thing. Jarrett has had the belt for about 5 months. One of Hogan's title reigns

lasted 4 years. Bruno Sammartino had a 7 year run with the belt. Jarrett hasn't

even made 7 months yet. Flair was NWA champ for most of 1981-1991 with a

title switch every year or two, but then he would get it back. Flair would travel

from territory to territory defeding the title and the title meant so much that just

getting a shot at it made you a star.

There was something like 21 title switches during the year 2000, in WCW. The

title became meaningless. This was when Vince Russo was there. Don't beg Russo

for title switches because he will definately give them. Half the locker room including

Lollypop Girl and himself would have the title by year end if Russo was given full control.

Anyone? The replay? PM me? Please? :(

I dont understand what you want. If you have satellite or digital cable the replay is usually on after at 10, and sometimes later in the week. Check your listings.

Just in response to some things said:

-I dont hate Jarret. In fact Im a big fan, as evidence of my screen name. I just think they've done a tremendous job building up Raven and when he didn't win after all that hype, it was very disappoiting.

-The reason Jarret will be better chasing is because he'll have a reason for wanting a rematch, he wants his belt back. Plus faces are almost always more interesting chasing heels.

-I dont think there's any indication of a rematch coming up, let a lone a cage or something which hasnt ever been done in TNA. Even if Raven wins it will be underwhelming after months of hype. Its not like they rushed into this one, theyve given it tons of time. Itd be like Hogan beating Stin clean at Starcade 97 (which kinda happened, yeah Sting won it back at Superbrawl but who cares at that point).

-To the guy who said title changes shouldn't happen that often, Jarret has been champ for SIX MONTHS! In this day and age thats a LONG time, and this feud has had 3 months of buildup so nothing was rushed here.

Im not negative on TNA though, I still loved the show, I just think they blew it but not giving the ending that everyone wanted...

Let's explain, shall we:

Jarrett hardly ever defends the title, and his big title matches always have a ton of interference, refs getting knocked out, etc., and yet he STILL retains. That's what pisses me off about him still being Champion for such a long time with a weak reign like that when there could be someone who would actually defend the title most of the time and one who deserves the belt more, with matches that don't have interference and ref bumps dragging the matches down like Jarrett's title matches with Styles, D'Lo, and Raven have been.

If they do Jarrett-Raven II, I wouldn't care HALF as much as I did leading up to this, even if it was guaranteed that Raven would win. Oh, wait, it seemed pretty damn likely AND logical that Raven would win tonight. If Raven DID win, I would say "About fucking time." They missed the boat here. A rematch isn't going to matter as much as this did, no matter what stipulation they add to it.

YOu're exaggerating at the whole "beat to death" thing. Each guy hit him once with something like a cane shot and then they did the conchairto thing. For all of those shots.....as you said, Raven got some chairshots and a table spot and Sabu attacked him from behind. I dont see much of a difference between the two punishment takings of each person other than just more guys got a hit on Jarrett, but it still evened out of me. All I said was both guys took their collective damages, period. By the end of it both of them were bloody and beaten up, thats the point being made by the end of the match, not that "OMG he took some more damage than Raven did and STILL WON, what a fucking politicing ASSHOLE!!" Its called a babyface comeback, jeez. This is nothing new in wrestling, and it doesn't kill a heels career off or even damage him when he's given that much of punishment back to him as Raven did with the chairs, table, and Sabu spots.

About the evenflow thing, Raven hit him with a rolling DDT out of a whip IIRC, which isn't an Evenflow. Theres a difference. The announcers didn't even play up that he got evenflowed when it happened.

Wait a minute, you think that if Raven would have been given the title, more title matches would have been on the shows? How do you figure.

So you are all saying that if Raven beats a shitload of people next week and continues hammering he hasn;t given up on his destiny, maybe even turning him babyface by the end of this leading to a rematch with Jarrett, its not worth it? You DONT want to see a rematch after tonight? Cmon now.

If wrestling wasn't scripted, your comments would make sense. If you are on a message

board like this you must know that wrestling isn't "real." All of that stuff you mentioned

has to do with the booking/writing. If they only have Jarrett, who lives in Tenn., defend the

title every so often, then why would they have someone else from away defend it more?

Interference, ref bumps and all that have to do with the booking and not with who is champion.

Saturn hit the Death Valley Driver. That's not exactly equivalent to a cane shot.

About the title shot thing... I agree that Raven being champ does not neccesarily mean there will be more shots, but this Jarrett title run MUST end, because up until the last month, it's been boring as hell, and the only reason it hasn't been boring is because they built up to THIS title shot. The feud continuing now that the good guy has gone over despite everything Raven had just comes off as pointless, no matter what the outcome.

And yeah, I wouldn't care as much as I did today if Raven won the title in a rematch.

whats missing?

and i think there is a conflict of booking here on this board. some think he should have lost because of the hype. others say he should have lost because of the attacks. you just have to wait and see. you cant just not give them a chance cause they, in your mind, fucked up. they have booking plans. how do you know this feud is over? what if jarrett starts defending the belt every night, denying raven of a title shot with raven just attacking him every week until he gives him a shot. i think EVERYONE, dispite the "disrepsect" or whatever, that they showed you tonight, should wait until next week. yea, the big match had a sour ending, but you just got to let them finish the story. you dont read a book or magazine and toss it in the trash because the main character, or you favorite character died in the middle. or they took out a feature to your favorite game in the middle of development. maybe the ending of the book needed the guy to die for some sort of surprise ending. or the feature had to be tossed for something better.

Judging from the crowd reaction, the logical thing for them to do now

would be to turn Raven face and have Jarrett go heel, then eventually

do the title switch. Don't make Raven an all-out face though, have him

still be psycho.

Those fans were throwing newspapers? I thought wrestling fans couldn't

read?

But the point is Raven SHOULD have won the belt TONIGHT, because his destiny was to win the NWA World Heavyweight title, but he didn't, so like I said, if a rematch happens, it won't mean as much because it won't have the hype and anticipation that the first match did.

I noticed the change.

Anyways, there WAS booing for Jarretts win, and it seemed louder than what the Heel Section could provide. They do a lousy job of miking the crowd, but I heard about a 40-50% negative reaction loud and clear.

I think it was the 'Heel Section' who threw the crap into the ring.. I thought it was a double 'lol' to see the ref get hit with a water bottle and to see Borash run like a little school girl to stop them.

BTW: who was the random yak who faught with Lolipop tonight?

She was neat B-)
