Guest TheHulkster Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Perhaps the wrong guy went over, but I thought the match was pretty damn entertaining for what it was.
Guest Space_Cowboy Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Jarrett won? Bleh. I guess he needs to keep the belt for his EPIC feud with Erik Watts, this is the second time Jarrett should have lost the belt but has retained. First against Styles, now Raven.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Dusty can be the Ric Flair to Jarrett's HHH.
Guest Breakout Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I'm just wondering. How did the last match end? And what did Sabu do?
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Okay, I order TNA for the first time since early February with the promise of an epic title match, one that should blow the roof off of the place and end up being worth the TREMENDOUS hypejob done during the show, and what do I get? ANOTHER OVERBOOKED MESS. This reminded me of an ECW main event or something. Why can't there just be TWO MEN WRESTLING? What's worse, Jarrett was subject to one of the worst beatdowns (and coolest, in the form of the superkick conchairto) ever, and he STILL wins. The worst move Raven took the whole match was the table spot, and Jarrett was beaten within an inch of his life, but... Jarrett wins? Fuck this noise. I gave them one more chance to deliver on a big match, and they failed, invalidating what was a good show for the first hour and a half. Call me when Styles wins the title after Jarrett's next quarterly title defense.
Guest tpww7 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 The card itself was real good, try to not overlook that.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Oh, I know the rest of the show was good, but any program, no matter how tremendous, can be ruined by a greatly disappointing main event.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 It ended with Jarrett countering a second Raven Effect (AFTER HE TOOK TWO AND A MASSIVE BEATDOWN FROM TEAM EXTREME), hitting the Stroke, and winning. Sabu took out the ECW guys and then lept into the crowd and flattened a middle-aged woman. Yay.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Just got done watching, good show, although the second hour seemed to be filled with interviews and video packages. I was into the title match but I agree the wrong guy went over. Everyone was waiting for Raven as champion but now theyre in a corner. I mean a rematch wont have the same effect if he wins then, it would have given the feud new life to have Raven win and Jarret chase him to win it back.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Yeah, what was up with that poor woman getting nailed? Was a Team Extreme person supposed to be standing there and Sabu didn't look before he leaped?
Guest RedJed Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 The card itself was real good, try to not overlook that. Exactly.............instead we have people refusing to give TNA another chance because of one finish, a finish might I add that didn't bury Raven or anything, in fact he looked great in there with Jarrett. Cmon guys, that is some ridiculous shit to get THIS pissed at such a small point which will almost certainly be rectified in no time.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Im just annoyed because it kills Raven's momentum and leaves Jarret and the title flat. Raven winning would have been very satisfying, made the title scene fresh again and would have created a new feud with Jarret as he chases to get it back, now its like ok Raven failed, who's next?
Guest The Notorious CRD Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 While I was greatly disappointed with the screwjob ending to the X title match and Jarrett retaining, I can't deny that this was a very good show. I'm hoping Raven enters next week's Insanity in the Asylum match and gets another chance at the title. We'll see though.

I mean a rematch wont have the same effect if he wins then, it would have given the feud new life to have Raven win and Jarret chase him to win it back. If Raven would have won tonight with no plan of action afterwards, it would have been pointless. Nobody wants to see Jarrett chasing the belt again, man.....much less winning it AGAIN. If anything, people are getting into RAVEN chasing the belt, hence the finish. People will still be into a rematch, generally speaking. I know I will just because tonights match was so top notch I cant wait to see another one between the two. The rematch will likely have different dimensions to it as well, as we may see a double turn occur.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Yeah, even if the booking isnt always great a TNA show is always entertaining, and way more fun to watch than a WWE show...
Guest sean pyro Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I thought tonights PPV was awesome top-to-bottom even if Jeff won I still enjoyed the show alot. Big up's go to the people who threw trash in the ring after the match, been such a long time since I have seen that
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 How will Raven winning the title in the rematch have a bigger impact than if he won it in the first match though? Many were expecting him to win it tonight and he didn't, so later on if he wins it from Jarrett in the rematch, Raven probably won't receive that much of a reaction like he would have if he was booked to win the title, so Raven still looks bad nonetheless.

You're acting like its all over between them, they're not going to just stop a program that has brought them more anticpation and interest for any program in history after one freakin match. Thats just bad business.
Guest C-Bacon Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Im not reading any of this thread as to avoid spoilers, can someone PM me the repeat for the show please? thanks!
Guest The Notorious CRD Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Big up's go to the people who threw trash in the ring after the match, been such a long time since I have seen that Yeah, it has been a while since we've seen that. Brought back memories of Hogan forming the nWo.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 You're acting like its all over between them, they're not going to just stop a program that has brought them more anticpation and interest for any program in history after one freakin match. Thats just bad business. But they really only have one chance, and they blew it. Yeah they could have a rematch but its like months and months and months, Raven's destiny and all of that, and he loses basically clean. So he wins a rematch, it will seem very underwhelming. I just hope they have a plan of where they're going with this...
Guest tpww7 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Jarrett- Raven, Jarrett- Styles, Jarrett- Truth, and Jarrett- Sting can still happen.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Exactly.............instead we have people refusing to give TNA another chance because of one finish, a finish might I add that didn't bury Raven or anything, in fact he looked great in there with Jarrett. Cmon guys, that is some ridiculous shit to get THIS pissed at such a small point which will almost certainly be rectified in no time. Uhm, WHAT? Raven and co. beat the shit out of Jarrett. The worst Raven took was one Stroke and the table thing... and then another Stroke pins him? After Jarrett survived TWO Evenflows, the stereo superkick Con-Chair-To, the drop-toe-hold into the chair, and so much more? Raven looked weak and it looked like that even with SIX PEOPLE aiding him, he can't beat Jarrett.
Guest RedJed Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 How will Raven winning the title in the rematch have a bigger impact than if he won it in the first match though? Its basic booking 101 in having a character who has a hell of a following chasing the title. You dont blow the load right away on something alot of folks want to see, instead you let it play out a little bit, not too far (WWE does this when, like a guy like RVD has 5-6 title shots and fucks up every one of them).......but you build it up solidly enough that it actually DOES have an impact more when it happens down the line. I dont get why you think he wont recieve the same reaction as he did tonight later on in a rematch. He came off looking great in the match itself, and if he beats a shitload of guys in a gauntlet match next week......well if anything he might be even MORE over than before.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I don't care about who won, just the impracticality of the whole thing. It (the Jarrett victory despite having everything but the 1st infantry division thrown at him) DESTROYS any disbelief suspension and makes people who bought the show either for the first time or again after a long hiatus (like myself) feel screwed because they didn't get a quality match despite AAAALLLLLL that hype going into it. The main event sells the show mostly, the main event didn't deliver. That is where my qualm lies.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I respectfully disagree RedJed. Everyone wanted to see the title change tonight after months of hype, it should have happened. All the wind is now out of the sails. A rematch only works if its Jarret chasing Raven to get it back.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Jarrett- Raven, Jarrett- Styles, Jarrett- Truth, and Jarrett- Sting can still happen. Raven-Jarrett And? Jarrett's already beaten Raven cleanly. What, is Raven going to gain superpowers and beat Jarrett? Because that's what it would take. Jarrett-Styles Eh. We've seen it before and though it was great, it doesn't matter to me anymore. Jarrett-Truth Hunh? Killings is practically a midcarder now. Jarrett-Sting He's going to WWE, no dice. Even if Raven wins the belt, he should have won it today and had Jarrett chase him for months. THEN Jarrett winning the belt would have been perfectly fine.
Guest tpww7 Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Jarrett- Sting is planned for a NWA-WWA Champ vs Champ match.
