SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I went to the video store the other day and I was looking around in the previously viewed DVDs. Now it only had a few extras, nothing much, but hey, I LOVE thrillers so I bought it(It was only 7 bucks) and me and some of my friends watched it. Now, if you have seen this movie what did you think of it?I thought DAMN, that was FUCKED UP. Now, yes, it was rather disturbing, at least to me, and NO ONE under the age of maybe 16 or 17 should see this movie. In my oppinion, it is strange, and it is pushing the limits of an R rating too. Many critics said that it pushing the limits was not a good thing. I thought it was daring, and done in a style so that it is not as bad as it possible could have been. I thought the end was suprising, not the best shocker ending ever, but I thought the movie was atleast worth a rental for anyone who hasnt seen it. But seriously, be warned, it si a DIFFERENT film, to say the LEAST. It will make you think differently about some things, but then again, that makes a movie good to me. Ill post about Se7en a little later. I bought the 2-Disk set, brand new after I went to the video store lol, but its an incredible movie, and the ending is excellent in my oppinnion. PLUS, GOD DAMNIT believe it or not, in my oppinion, the alternate ending is as good as the original. I stronly reccomend it but ill post more on it later.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 8MM is an ok movie. Elements of it are a bit too cliche and 'Hollywood' for my taste, but for 7 bucks, that's a good buy. The guy in the movie, can't rememebr his name, the porno director, reminded me a bit of Greg Dark. edit: Dino Velvet was the character's name.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 Put spoiler tags and post the alternate ending, I want to know what it is but I really don't want to see the movie again.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Put spoiler tags and post the alternate ending, I want to know what it is but I really don't want to see the movie again. The alternate endings of Se7en? There are several, IIRC... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): The only one I can remember is the one in which William shoots John Doe and says "I'm retiring". It wasn't shot though, it was just storyboards. There's another storyboarded ending and one that was shot, but I can't remember the shot one being very different. It's nothing radical, like Tracy not being killed or anything, so it's really not that big a deal. The William shooting first one is interesting to me though.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Oh nuts to that, I know the Se7en endings, I only skimmed and thought that he was talking about an 8mm alt ending
Guest mach7 Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I hate Nicholas Cage so I won't be touching this movie any time soon.
The Dames Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I saw 8MM in the theaters, but had no real clue what it was about. I was digusted by all forms of pornography for the next 3 months. Dames
Guest evenflowDDT Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I was digusted by all forms of pornography for the next 3 months. For me it was totally the opposite... I was renewed in my quest to find the legendary "snuff film". I have no idea why though. I liked 8MM a lot... that and Bringing Out the Dead are probably my two favorite Nicolas Cage films (though I haven't seen Adaptation). It's dark and gritty, and paced rather well... and "Machine" is a monster. An awesome "hoss" of a villain.
Guest Choken One Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 8MM is an great 2 in The Morning Thriller...
Guest NoCalMike Posted May 3, 2003 Report Posted May 3, 2003 I thought 8mm was ok, but it came off like Hollywood was trying to make a"gritty" film, yet followed the typical hollywood pattern. It was a decent flick.
Guest Miss Indy Queen Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 I remember watching this movie in theatres not knowing anything about it. It was the only movie that was playing at the time me and my friends were there, and by luck it wasn't sold out at the time. After watching that, words can't describe how disgusted my friends and I were. I remember walking out the theatre thinking what the hell did I just watch. I never bothered to watch it again, I just avoid it at all costs. Very sick and twisted movie indeed.
Guest WhenDanSaysJump Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 8mm is redeemed due to APHEX TWIN~! on the soundtrack.
Guest Ram Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 I watch 8MM with my family. I still have no idea what the hell you all are talking about. Disturbing..gritty? WTF?
Guest Ravenbomb Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I hate Nick Cage, too, but I loved Bringing Out The Dead, and didn't hate him in that movie, so I'll watch this. If I like this and Adaptation I won't hate Nick Cage anymore
