Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted May 2, 2003 The only thing insulting about the Mr. America angle is that we're expected to believe that Stephanie signed someone, sight unseen, to a contract that states that he can never be fired. If they had made it so that Stephanie knew all along that Mr. America was Hogan, then it would've made sense, but as it is, it's really half-assed writing. They can still save that aspect of it by handing out some sacraficial lamb. It would have to be someone with known backstage power, right now I can't think of anyone who would qualify, anyways, have Stephanie blame this person for the hiring. He/she made the reccomendation and Steph acted on it. Of course that would demonstrate great stupidity and poor business sense on her part, but hey, art imitates life sometimes. OH GOD~! SHANE O MACS COMING BACK~! ...I'd be happy, except I don't really know if I could handle one more McMahon on TV, let alone three on one show.

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Re-writing history. I don't mind it so much that they ignore what happened before, but I really hate it when they change things that have already happened. For example, it really annoyed me when Bischoff said WCW would still be in business if he had hired HHH back in 1996, when HHH was busy fighting Henry Godwin and Ultimate Warrior. Stuff like that. Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Speaking of Triple H...the average mark must have their head spinning right now with this Nash/HHH buddy nonsense. Never, in kayfabe, did these two ever hang out...never. And only a fraction of marks may remember they Clique MSG 1996 deally, where Trippers nearly commited career suicide. Also, why doesn't Rico get a shot at the World Heavyweight Title? He beat Ric Flair, right? And Ric Flair is the guy people go through to get to "the best wrestler in the world" HHH. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted May 2, 2003 One thing that always cracks me up is how the announcers with "interpret" the reaction wrestlers are getting. Nearly anyone with good hearing can tell when some one is getting booed or when the majority of the crowd is for/against a guy, but the commentators try to cover it up. Or make excuses. The infamous "1" design that looked a little like an American flag which is why Montreal booed Steiner. Yeah, sure JR.

Oh that's a good one.^^^^ But what also is infamous, is the fact that they continually say that if you are against something (like Nowinski speaking his opinion), then you aren't in the right. Guest ViciousFish Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Overboard gimmicks in general really bother me. Aldo Montoya, the Mantaur, the Goobley Gooker and shit like the Goddwins. I've only been able to make an exception for Hurricane because I was a huge Sugar Shane mark. Those gimmicks just seem cheesy to me.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted May 2, 2003 There are about a billion things about referees that are insulting to your intelligence: 1. Closed fists are only scolded when it is convenient to the storyline. 2. Only people with terrible eyesight and terrible hearing get to be referees. Also, they don't ask questions if they are distracted and see the person who was getting pinned unconscious on their opponent (etc). 3. Anyone wearing a referee shirt is able to be knocked out cold with a stiff breeze. This applies even if a wrestler is guest refereeing. 4. Heel referees don't get punished by anyone in higher authority. 5. If a match is a "big" one, 90% of the time a ten-count while the wrestlers are outside is only for appearances and the referee won't reach 10. 6. The use of weapons outside of the ring may or may not be legal depending on the circumstances. 7. Earl Hebner is "Senior" referee despite being the worst referee in the company. Bored 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2003 When Angle gets hit with a sledge hammer in the skull and doesn't die On that subject how about the n.W.o. beat down of The Rock last year where he was first hit over the head a freakin' hammer, which would kill most people, and then having the diesel truck ram into the amublence The Rock was in. Of course he came back two weeks later with taped ribs. Oh and similar to that HHH getting dropped 30 feet or whatever it was in a car by Austin and coming back a week later. Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted May 2, 2003 The angles I dislike the most are anything involving stock/ownership of the company. This was all fine and good when the WWF was entirely privately owned by Vince McMahon, but now that it's a public company these types of storylines have no business being used. Particularly dumb was how Shane and Steph "sold their WWF stock" to buy WCW and ECW, when those 2 companies were worth a fraction of what 25% of the WWF's stock would sell for. Plus, at various times Vince will be in total control, then he will own 50% and Linda the other half, and so on. This needs to be dropped completely and if they want to do ownership/control/power storylines, they can do them like the Austin/Bischoff one (these of course are annoying too, but that's from overuse rather than being generally stupid like the stock ones are). Guest JMFabiano524 Report post Posted May 3, 2003 When writers don't acknowledge history/past storylines when writing their storylines (for example, how the fuck did Kane meet Katie Vick when he was locked in a basement until 97?). Remember, everything is fake, except what you're watching RIGHT NOW, which is real.
Guest papacita Report post Posted May 3, 2003 The whole Rock/Hogan relationship from last spring. First, the Rock saving Hogan from an nWo beatdown at Wrestlemania (despite the fact that Hogan just tried to kill the man weeks earlier). Then, to top that off, a few weeks later, when the Rock was taking on Nash on Smackdown, Cole says something like "there's a lot of bad blood between the Rock and Nash! Rock hasn't forgotten how Nash tried to kill him a few weeks ago."

LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2003 Anytime old arch enemies become tag team partners a year or two later for no apparent reason. Ahhhhhh...yes. The 2 man Power Trip. One guy tries to kill the other by running him over in a car, the other one drops him 30 feet from a crane in a care........the blonde one repeatedly beats the bald one with sledgehammers. These guys were trying to kill each other at one point and are partners at another. Who the fuck would want to tag with someone who tried to kill them? Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted May 3, 2003 My intelligence is insulted when people asked questions about a storyline of a WWE television show like this... A lot of people said Smackdown's whole "Mr. America" thing is insulting the audience's intelligence. While I can't say one way or another, since I missed Smackdown, I was wondering what angles/storylines/aspects of pro wrestling actually do insult your intelligence, or have in the past. For example, I hate when a wrestler is fired/suspended/etc. (for storyline purposes), and WWE acts like wrestling is the guy's only option to make money. "He's got to feed his family," is the staple comment. Then they act like the only job former wrestlers can get are menial jobs like "flipping burgers" or janitorial work. I also feel insulted by some of the backstage skits in which a camera has no business being somewhere or a wrestler has no business revealing some master plan when a camera is right there. Any others y'all can think of?
