Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Baseball Name the HOF pitcher who struck out 5 consecutive HOF batters in the 1934 All-Star game. Name the 5 players in the order they struckout. Basketball What team originally had the first pick in the 1979 NBA Draft, and what Laker did this team sign to give up that pick?
Guest razazteca Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Blazers and they picked Ervin "Magic" Johnson?
Guest alkeiper Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 The pitcher was Carl Hubbell, who struck out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons I believe, and Joe Cronin.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 The pitcher was Carl Hubbell, who struck out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons I believe, and Joe Cronin. Correct.
Guest phoenixrising Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Name the only baseball player to win MVP awards in both leagues. Name the last player to win the MVP and Cy Young awards in the same season. Speaking of trivia, Vern who is that in your sig?
Guest cartman Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Dennis Eckersley was the last one to win the Cy and MVP together right? I could be wrong... As for MVP in both leagues, Frank Robinson In what year did three players win the World Series MVP award, and who were they?
Guest bravesfan Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Speaking of trivia, Vern who is that in your sig? I can answer that one... That's Mel Ott, who played an astounding 22 YEARS in right field for the same team (New York Giants, from the late 20's to early 40's). Some notable accomplishments: --member of the 500-Homerun Club with 511 round-trippers. --won league homerun crown in six different seasons. --one of only 7 players to have his uniform retired by the San Francisco Giants (Ott, Marichal, McCovey, Mays, Cepeda, Hubbell, Terry)
Rob E Dangerously Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 What has every World Series since 1961 had in common? (not # of games, or anything, but relating to the teams playing)
Guest CanadianChris Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 In what year did three players win the World Series MVP award, and who were they? 1981...Ron Cey, Steve Yeager and Pe-dro Guerr-er-o for the Dodgers. Four part question: Who hit the first grand slam in the World Series? Who was the first pitcher to hit a home run in the World Series? Who turned the only unassisted triple play in the World Series? What do these three men all have in common?

The great Mel Ott. Here's more info from the Baseball Hall of Fame. "Mel Ott was a New York Giants hero for 22 seasons, during which he emerged as one of the game's leading sluggers and a fan favorite. As a 17-year-old "Boy Wonder" in 1926, his size belied his power. Using an unorthodox batting style in which he lifted his right foot prior to impact, he smashed 511 home runs (at the time a National League record), hitting 30 or more in a season eight times and winning or sharing home run honors on six occasions. " "Did you know ... that on October 5, 1929, Mel Ott set the National League record for most walks in a doubleheader with six, and then repeated the feat on April 30, 1944? "
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Blazers and they picked Ervin "Magic" Johnson? You got Magic Johnson correct. But I was looking for the player on the Lakers, that was signed by the team that lost the first pick.
Guest DrTom Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Name the only baseball player to win MVP awards in both leagues. Name the last player to win the MVP and Cy Young awards in the same season. I'm pretty sure the first answer is Frank Robinson. I think Willie (later Guillermo) Hernandez would be the answer for the second one. I don't recall Eck ever winning the MVP, but I'm doing this from memory, and the ol' memory might be fuzzy.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Question: What is Rick Fox's real first name?
