Guest bravesfan Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Speaking of trivia, Vern who is that in your sig? I can answer that one... That's Mel Ott, who played an astounding 22 YEARS in right field for the same team (New York Giants, from the late 20's to early 40's). Some notable accomplishments: --member of the 500-Homerun Club with 511 round-trippers. --won league homerun crown in six different seasons. --one of only 7 players to have his uniform retired by the San Francisco Giants (Ott, Marichal, McCovey, Mays, Cepeda, Hubbell, Terry)

The great Mel Ott. Here's more info from the Baseball Hall of Fame. "Mel Ott was a New York Giants hero for 22 seasons, during which he emerged as one of the game's leading sluggers and a fan favorite. As a 17-year-old "Boy Wonder" in 1926, his size belied his power. Using an unorthodox batting style in which he lifted his right foot prior to impact, he smashed 511 home runs (at the time a National League record), hitting 30 or more in a season eight times and winning or sharing home run honors on six occasions. " "Did you know ... that on October 5, 1929, Mel Ott set the National League record for most walks in a doubleheader with six, and then repeated the feat on April 30, 1944? Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Blazers and they picked Ervin "Magic" Johnson? You got Magic Johnson correct. But I was looking for the player on the Lakers, that was signed by the team that lost the first pick.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Name the only baseball player to win MVP awards in both leagues. Name the last player to win the MVP and Cy Young awards in the same season. I'm pretty sure the first answer is Frank Robinson. I think Willie (later Guillermo) Hernandez would be the answer for the second one. I don't recall Eck ever winning the MVP, but I'm doing this from memory, and the ol' memory might be fuzzy.
