Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Metallica hit the stage Saturday night in Los Angeles as part of MTV's mtvICON, for the first time with new guitarist Rob Trujillo. The band played classics as well as Frantic from their upcoming St. Anger album. The show also featured various artists playing Metallica hits: Sum 41 playing For Whom The Bell Tolls and Enter Sandman. Aaron Lewis and Mike Mushok of Staind performed a brief version of Nothing Else Matters on acoustic guitar. Avril Lavigne covered Fuel. Snoop Dogg played Sad But True. Korn played One. And Limp Bizkit played Welcome Home. The show airs May 6th at 9PM ET on MTV. ______________________________________________ I'd like to thank Korn and Limp Bizkit for ruining 2 classic songs that I legit enjoy. Thank you guys, I appreciate it. How predictable of Staind to do Metallica's most cheese dick song, Avril doing Fuel and Snoop doing Sad But True has earned my viewership though. Thats gonna be awesome in the bad way. Sum 41 doesn't matter so i shall make no comment. So...anyone else TERRIFIED by this?
Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 God...I was never a big Metallica fan, but no one deserves that line up.

OK, Snoop Dogg covering Sad But True has gotta be interesting (interstizzining?), but they couldn't get Kid Rock to do it? I guess that would've made sense though. I'm not a big Sum41 fan, but they at least seem to know their metal (Treble charged can you verify?) so presumably it can't be that bad. Either way, I'm not really itching to watch this right away, but I suppose I'll be able to catch it during one of the 20 million repeats...
Guest RepoMan Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 I think Korn doing One will turn out good, and Snoop will be interesting, but I doubt I'll watch this.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 I'll watch it. Avril going "Fuck em man, white knuckle tiiiiight" could be hilarious. Hell it WILL be hilarious.
Bored Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Korn doing "One" sounds pretty fucking cool but the rest doesn't sound too promising but who knows someone could surprise.
Guest NoCalMike Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Only good thing about the entire show was that reportedly when Limp Bizkit took the stage they were HEAVILY booed. However I bet all the booing will be edited out by the time the show airs tonight.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 I just wish I knew exactly when Avril was going to do her bit...so I could skip the rest of the show
Guest Memphis Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Just like to let you un-cool fags know that Fred Durst changed his band's name to 'limpbizkit'. Yes, that's one word. fredrulz! M
Guest swan Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Oh oh, Korn needs to learn to play another chord.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 A few pics for you: http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=1036
B. Brian Brunzell Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Since Snoop did "Sad But True," does that mean it's now renamed "Sizzle But Trizzle?"
Guest redbaron51 Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 from what i have heard, almost all of the bands fucked up on the lyrics except for Staind, and Avril
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Since Snoop did "Sad But True," does that mean it's now renamed "Sizzle But Trizzle?" The Old School Heavy Metal fans would kick James' ass if he ever said that on stage.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Well Sum 41 was doing fine until he started singing.......yeesh.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Hey that's cool that Jason's telling his side of the story.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Sounds like Avril is next for those who just wanted to see it. So far I'm liking it just for the video packages about Metallica's history.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Damn I hate to admit it, but she's not doing half bad. And she remembered the words unlike when she tried to do Chop Suey.
Guest Nevermortal Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Avril Lavigne seems like she couldn't care less about the performance. She's performing in a fucking monotone.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 She just seems way out of her league. I like her, but it's just not working greatly. And the funniest is watching the tattooed, piereced, etc. guy rock out to this.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Avril Lavigne seems like she couldn't care less about the performance. She's performing in a fucking monotone. She's probably out of it. The night before they taped this, she had a concert in Phoenix (friend went to it), and then they had to fly her out to wherever the hell this is filmed.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Oh God......this is horrible. Lars looks ill listening to this.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 : : shakes head : : And MTV wonders why they aren't taken seriously.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Please tell me that Snoop Dogg performance was a figment of my imagination.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 These two don't sound like they mean a word of that.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 I'm digging Korn's performance. The video screen in the background makes it even better.
