Guest starvenger Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Nice to see some love for Dave Andreychuk. None of his goals were pretty, but the guy's got around 600 (mostly from about 2-3 feet out) so that should count for something. Sure things in the NHL: Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, Mike Modano, Mark Messier, Brett Hull, Al Macinnis, Igor Larionov and Chris Chelios. Andy Van Hellemond as well, if he's not already in. Marty Brodeur WILL be there, but it's way too soon to be thinking HHoF for him. I'd also nominate Kerry Fraser's hair.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Yikes...Richter, Barrasso, Lemieux, Turgeon, Housley, Nieuwendyk, Roenick and Lindros don't belong anywhere near this list. It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Pretty Good Players. Phil Housley-894 career assists. 15th All time, and 5th amongst defensmen. Pierre Turgeon-1234 career points. 480 career goals.Should reach 500 goals. Joe Nieunwendyk-500 goals scored. Every player eligible with 500 goals is in the HOF. Keep in mind that players don't score has many points has they once did.

Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Barrasso might make it based on his Calder trophy and 2 Cups with Pittsburgh. I could see him not as well. Claude Lemieux might..might get in based on his playoff performance. He's a longshot but isn't he 2nd in career playoff game winners? Richter has over 300 career wins so I figured he has a shot and Belfour has somewhere around 400.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 7, 2003 It seems like the Hockey Hall of Fame isn't has difficult to be elected than the other 3 sports.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Barrasso has no shot. He's the very definition of "journeyman goalie." It's not like he didn't have help winning those two Cups either...that Lemieux guy had a bit to do with that. Of the current NHL goalies, Roy is a lock, Brodeur is nearly a lock (needs to play a few more years) and Belfour is probable, but not definite. Consider this: besides Grant Fuhr (who will almost certainly be inducted this year), the only regular NHL goalie who's played in the last 20 years in the Hall of Fame is Billy Smith (Tretiak is there as well). It's not easy to be a Hall of Fame goalie. And is it me, or has Turgeon scored the quietest 1234 points of all time?
Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Well, how many points did Mike Gartner end up with? The fact that he has 700+ goals probably surprises a lot of people. And, if Belfour wants to get in, he needs to end his career with a few more years like he had this past one and win another Cup or 2 (or 4) before he retires. Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 It seems like the Hockey Hall of Fame isn't has difficult to be elected than the other 3 sports. Doesn't hockey have a rule where only a certain number of players can make it each year? (I think it's 4 or 5) If so, a lot of these players will have to wait to get elected, and some have no chance: Richter, Belfour (unless he plays 3-4 more good years), C. Lemieux, etc.

I'd be willing to bet that Ed Belfour would eventually get in, even if he never played again.

Anyways, I think Belfour was a lock even before this season. But that's just me.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted May 9, 2003 I just looked it up - the Hockey Hall of Fame has both a maximum of 4 players per year, but if less than 4 get the necessary 75% of the votes they do follow-up ballots until they get to 4. If this doesn't work then they just accept that less than 4 are going in that year. And people like Claude and Eddie the Eagle might not make it due to one of the by-laws: Playing ability, sportsmanship, character and their contribution to the team or teams and to the game of hockey in general. I don't think that either Eddie or Claude fit the bill if they're looking for things like CHARACTER or SPORTSMANSHIP.

Yeah, I'd say that Gartner flew under the radar more than Turgeon has so far. Gartner was never really seen as a top flight player, while Turgeon has, at some times more than others, been looked at as a superstar.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 11, 2003 How many more productive year would these players need to have to be locks. Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 11, 2003 Sapp could get with one more stellar season because of his past and his name value... Lewis and Brooks arent there yet...
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 11, 2003 I think Lewis could get there more than Sapp. Sapp hasn't been all that productive over a long period of time, mainly over 2 years (1999 and 2000). Lewis is a tough motherfucker and practically his Super Bowl win came on defense and defense alone (Yes while the same could be said for Tampa Bay's 2003 win, Tampa Bay's Offense > Baltimore's Offense). And also part of the reason the Bucs D is so good is the scheme as well as the team contribution, Lewis practically carried (and probably will still carry to an extent) the Raven D.
