Guest EdwardKnoxII Posted May 11, 2003 Report Posted May 11, 2003 I found this an interesting read about the death of cartoons on Saturday morning. So what do you think? Agree or disagree? http://mag.awn.com/index.php3?ltype=pageon...article_no=1751
Guest El Satanico Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Well i didn't read it all, but in her list of six factors I noticed something. She left out parental groups and govermental groups demanding educational programming for kids. That's a big reason for the death of Saturday Morning Cartoons.
The Dames Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Man...I remember "The Littles" on ABC. Anyone else? Dames
Guest fazzle Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 The Littles? Recess? What's this shit? What about just watching Bugs Bunny?
The Dames Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 That wasn't exclusive to Sat. Morning... Dames
Guest fazzle Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 That was pretty much all I saw it, with the lack of Cartoon Network and all at the time.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 The only cartoon you had on Saturday's was Bugs Bunny? You poor child :coughbugsbunnysuckscough:
Guest Kingpk Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Bugs was all I watched, along with Garfield and Friends, TNMT and a couple others I don't remember right now. What was the name of that video game show that had Captain N?
Guest Kingpk Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 The only cartoon you had on Saturday's was Bugs Bunny? You poor child :coughbugsbunnysuckscough:
Guest fazzle Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 No, that's not all I had, that's just the only time I remember it being on. That's what I was trying to say at least.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 What...is it blasphemous to speak dislike of Bugs? Bugs is overrated damnit!
Guest El Satanico Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 No, that's not all I had, that's just the only time I remember it being on. That's what I was trying to say at least. Oh...alright
Guest Kingpk Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 What...is it blasphemous to speak dislike of Bugs? Bugs is overrated damnit! It is when you say it to me, dammit. Ok, I liked Daffy a LITTLE bit more. The Bugs/Elmer/Daffy "Duck Season" cartoons were on Toon Heads tonight. Probably the best series of Looney Tunes ever. Bugs: "Would you like to shoot me now, or wait until you get home?" Daffy: "Shoot him now, shoot him now." Bugs: "You keep out of this. He doesn't have to shoot you now." Daffy: "A'HA!! Pronoun trouble. It's not "he doesn't have to shoot YOU now", it's "he doesn't have to shoot ME now". BUT I SAY HE DOES HAVE TO SHOOT ME NOW!! (To Elmer) SO SHOOT ME NOW!!!!" *BLAM*
Guest Mole Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I'm with El on this one, Bugs kind of sucked. The damn rabbit NEVER got caught, it gets annoying after a while.
Guest fazzle Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Blah. I meant Looney Tunes in general, not just Bugs. Yeah, sometimes Bugs sucked. Elmer Fudd(and others, but mostly him) would just be minding his own business, and then Bugs would start to fuck with him over and over again until Elmer started chasing him. And Bugs is the good guy? Same thing with Tom & Jerry cartoons.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Man... I *hated* the Littles. That damned theme song still gives me nightmares. Oh, and Daffy owns Bugs' sorry ass.
Guest fazzle Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Daffy? Bugs? Does it really matter when there's Yosemite Sam and Taz there? (and yes, Daffy did own his ass)
Guest El Satanico Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I always wanted Taz to get killed...can't stand him at all.
Guest Lethargic Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I haven't read the article but if it's talking about Saturday Morning sucking, then I agree. I've thought this for the past few years. I remember back when I was a kid I used to get up at the crack of down and watch non-stop kick ass cartoons until nearly noon. Now I look at Saturday mornings and there are barly any cartoons on at all and the ones that are on are generally something stupid that I would never care about. I feel sorry for kids today. Cartoons suck now. Toys suck now. I know there is a generation gap and all, but damn I still like cartoons and toys but this stuff out now just friggin sucks.
Guest art_vandelay Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 What was the name of that video game show that had Captain N? Captain N: The Game Master Don't most of the popular cartoons today come on after school? In Canada, Pokemon, Yugioh, Sponge bob, all that is on after school. And honestly, even as a kid, I didn't get up until 1pm on Saturday mornings. I just think kids are becoming lazier and are smart enough to use that time to sleep in rather than watch cartoons.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Forget about Saturday Morning cartoons, it's the death of 3 hr blocks of 80's Game Shows that haunts me. Game Show Network doesn't show enough. I want my Sale of the Century and Classic Concentration damnitt!
Guest fazzle Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Speaking of GSN..what's with their nightly lineup? They have a big block of their originals.....with Match Game PM just stuck in the middle for no reason whatsoever? WTF?
Mecha Mummy Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 I'm going to every with everyone who said that Daffy owned Bugs. Daffy is so much funnier that it's not even... funny. Oh, wait, okay, that was stupid.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Daffy owns Bugs just as Donald own Mickey. Think about, between the two scenes in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" which is more memorable: Daffy/Donald or Bugs/Mickey
Guest Matt Young Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 After reading this thread, I have made a drunken conclusion- Bugs Bunny= HHH.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Action cartoons never show the moment of impact either. It just blinks, and shows the dude flying through the air after getting kicked or whatever. He Man and GI Joe used to fuck shit up, what gives with the pansy-ass fast cuts now? Also, most cartoons aren't even funny anymore, either.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Saturday Morning network TV ain't what it used to be. I usually spend it watching MST3K reruns, or the oldschool Spider Man and His Amazing Friends on ABC Family. I've only caught the new TMNT and Ultimate Muscle once or twice. NBC fucking pisses me off because they sold out to the Discovery Channel, so all the freakin' Sat. shows are about science and dinosaurs and nature and shit. What kid on a WEEKEND wants to deal with that shit? I suppose I'm just bitter because TNBC got canned in favor of it. Fucking educational TV.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I'd rather watch a T-rex fucking shit up than that tnbc shite.
