Bored Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 RVD hasn't been mentioned because you probably couldn't find 3 people on this board that would call him a good wrestler. Even I wouldn't say that...and I'm his biggest fan. Well I found it funny with Booker T because you probalby couldn't find thee people to call him a good worker either. When someone is mentioned so many times (as well as Storm) as being overrated well then they are no longer overrated, same if someone who everyone thinks is underrated.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Storm had a good match with Edge at SummerSlam 2001. Which was probably his only high profile singles match in the company.
Guest ViciousFish Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Storm had a good match with Edge at SummerSlam 2001. Which was probably his only high profile singles match in the company. That's more because of the time he's given than his ability. Watch Lance Storm when he first went to WCW. He had great matches because he was given time to show what he can do. Now he's given 3 minutes in a singles match or 6 in a tag match. Not alot of time for a technical wrestler to show what he can do.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I can only think of about 2 Storm singles matches in the WWE where he got any amount of time at all. The first was that Edge match and it was good. And the other was the RVD match on RAW (and there was one on Heat the week before that I missed) but that was a better than average RVD match. I don't think Storm is bad. I just think he's very plain.
Guest NoSelfWorth Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 As alluded to previously, WWE doesn't exactly allow for wrestlers to work their asses off to produce the best match they can. They don't want 'lesser' talents showing up the main event guys. I think if you gave a lot of the overrated wrestlers a 15 minute match, then about half of them at least would show that they are not overrated, just badly used.
Guest Coffey Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Yea- Rico had a fantastic HEAT match with Am Dragon recently How the hell did I miss this? Damnit. Anyone know if you can download it anywhere?
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Lesnar. I just don't get the love for him. He needs someone to hold him by the hand or else he's completely lost. His selling, something about it is goofy, probably the fact that here's this supposed monster and he's overselling everything. Despite his size, he has commanding ring presence... he looks out of place, and again, looks lost. His mix of tech and power just doesn't cut it. Though some of this is likely due to the limitations placed on him, but even then... 'he can do an SSP'... well big fucking deal. 'He's an amateur wrestler'... and? And just to reiterate the point, he's pretty bad on the mic. At this point, there are no upsides to him other than the fact that he's amazingly and surprisingly over.
Guest ViciousFish Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Mick Foley. I feel about Mick Foley the same thing I feel about the Rock. A great entertainer a fairly average wrestler. Mick Foley could entertain but he could never really wrestle beyond basic brawling.
Guest godthedog Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Bret Hart. care to amplify that answer? unless it was a joke.
Invictus Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Brock Lesnar. Period. Also see Most Overrated by WWE.
Guest Basswitch Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 IMO Justin Credible is. Storm, Rico, and Christian are all fine in my book. They can put on great matches, if given the chance. (NOTE: Being Booked Against Golberg in a squash match is not an opportunity).

I don't think Storm is bad. I just think he's very plain. I used to say the same thing about Storm. I felt that if he had enough ring time then he could do something exciting or energetic. But when he was tagging with Regal and the UnAmericans, he was doing chinlock spots less than 2-minutes into the match. My high opinion of him and my pimping of him stopped shortly after. Sad to say it, but when I see a Lance match coming up, I pay almost no attention anymore. Although it was brief, he at least showed some energy in his match against Booker T a week or so ago.
Guest Basswitch Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Yea- Rico had a fantastic HEAT match with Am Dragon recently How the hell did I miss this? Damnit. Anyone know if you can download it anywhere? If you talk to me on AIM (my aim is Photonman992), i have a good Rico match. It's not the one against American dragon. But it's Randy Orton and Rico vs. Brock Lesnar and Ron "H20" Waterman in a dark tag match.
Guest CanadianChick Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 I was going to say Booker T, but it seems that everybody said that already, so he must not be that overrated afterall. But there is someone that I think is almost the most overrated wrestler by smarks EVER, Steve Austin.

When Steve started bringing the moveset against HHH, Benoit and Angle he won me over as a fan for life. Austin is worthy of all the praise he gets
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Austin (especially when it comes to promo ability: "Blah blah blah _____ needs his ass whipped *guzzles beer* What? What? What? What?") Benoit. Yes, really.

Guest Ray Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Ugh I really hate these "overrated" topics, especially when so many people don't know what overrated really means. If you think Steve Austin is bad, you need to watch more Austin.

If you think Steve Austin is bad, you need to watch something before 1997. Booker T is good for what he is. He is over with the crowds and entertains nicely. Meh..... Hogan's "over with crowds" and people crap all over him. There's not that much of a difference.
Guest Army Eye Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Austin (especially when it comes to promo ability: "Blah blah blah _____ needs his ass whipped *guzzles beer* What? What? What? What?") In his current incarnation, yes. Since he started constructing his promos to accomodate "WHAT"s from the crowd, Austin is about 0 for 1,000,000 in the good promo department.
Guest EternallyLazy Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 HHH pre 2001... I never got it and I never will
Guest Luke Cage Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 HHH pre 2001... I never got it and I never will Ditto.

Booker T isn't a fantastic wrestler, however compared to Hulk Hogan he's THE SHIT. People crap all over Hogan because of that fact - he's crap/shit/worthless/unentertaining So yes, there IS a difference. M
Guest Memphis Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 What is the big fuckin' deal about Rob Van Dam? Did you see that tag team title match on RAW a few weeks back between Nature Roids & Kane & RVD?? Flair & Trips worked Van Dam's leg for the better part of the match and HOW does RVD finish things? A martial arts kick from the top, leaps back up and nails a frog splash. PLEASE. I nearly threw the remote at my television after that bullshit. M

M Agreed... and that's something that has really pissed me off at times, especially how it goes ignored most of the time because he's a smark darling... while Edge gets his shoulder worked on and finishes a match with a spear and everyone calls for his head! I just don't get it sometimes...
Guest Redhawk Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Maybe people were just happy that someone no-sold HHH's offense. Anyway, I see "overrated" as someone who gets more credit than they deserve for something. For example, everyone thinks Cal Ripken Jr. was this great baseball player when he was really somewhere in between very good and pretty good. As far as wrestlers go, I wouldn't say RVD and Booker T are overrated because no one has ever accused them of being great wrestlers. I DO think that Chris Benoit is overrated. He is great, but people around here talk about him like he's a God.
Guest Memphis Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 But besides the shithouse selling, I don't get what is so great about him. His knees are in pretty bad shape as they are now and his in-ring style won't stay with him for too much longer should they continue to deteriorate. Then what? Maybe there is someone here who can guide me to a match where RVD has displayed some great mat skills, however judging from what I've seen over the past 3 years - RVD is over rated. M
